Technical Test Thread

I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.

I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.

Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.

  • Badgie: Do do the 'tours', on GE? This is where you fly along the route, like a flight simulator?

  • JSB  Morning. I see you are up early.

I am am not aware of any Google Earth links for the  Swedish or Finnish ospreys. Probably one will have to ask on one of the Finnish forums (that is not a joke)

I do know that the Welsh ospreys will soon be on Google Earth.

  • Tiger: Hi, remember jukka....I just deleted the 2009/2010 kml that was defunct. So the Welsh are coming! I supposed they had arrived, so will watch out. I was thinking about an interactive map, to plot current positions of birds, but it would need a website to host it and it would require some effort.

  • jsb   No the maps for the Welsh ospreys are being produced on an ad hoc basis at the moment as far as I know. I asked on the Dyfi Facebook site recently and was told that they would be on Google Earth soon. There is a new site for te Dyfi ospreys due to be launched tomorrow. I guess that will be the place to look for information.

The Welsh ospreys are going to feature on Autumnwatch and no doubt will be a major story as two of the trackers are sponsored by the BBC. The third is collectively owned by the fans.

Morning jsb. Sounds complicated. Do you have a website of your own then?

Hi ChloeB: I used to have one for genealogy, but I could get one, if I can figure out the software I saw. I may give it a go, it would enable some of us to plot ospreys latest positions and delete the previous. A sort of where we are now, because the numbers are increasing and one is having to be selective to follow favourites, then one loses track (no pun intended|) of whats what, with the rest.

  • My latest GE 'My Places' menu looks like this. The GE globe symbol denotes a download link to my laptop, with file opened by GE. There is no refresh optoin with these, which was puzzling me, but the GE program must access the website each time for the latest data. The others with the refresh symbol are refreshed automatically according to the link settings menu.

  • jsb   If you go to Rutland Osprey Migration and right click it you will get a menu with a refresh on it.
