Hi, all. Welcome to a new week!
Unknown said: Just back from a walk in the park with Diesel and the trees have really been hammered by the wind branches lying everywhere and some of them have a diameter of at least six inches and I don't think there will be as many leaves falling this autumn as they have also been blown off. Yesterday the noise of the wind made Diesel scared and he jumped up on my knee to get comforted. Have enjoyed all the reports of peoples holidays and the pictures that have accompanied them. Hope everyone keeps safe during this unusual weather.

I earnestly trust you too keep safe George . How I feel for Diesel !! That was me on hearing the wind on Alan's video of a feed of humbug one. I scurried off to work terrified that when I came back EJ's nest would be in the land of Nod (or where ever the place is that Dorothy went off to).
And today we have the wonderful news of humbug two.
Many thanks Lynette for capture of the ever growing goshawk chicks.
Tiger I wish Bob Dylan a Happy 70th as well. Was never a fan in my younger days but in the last few years he has made some excellent CD's and I have been well and truly converted much to my OH's delight as he has always been a fan.

Anyone know if it's possible to get Tabs on IE? Cos my browser doesn't seem to have them
So much for my plan to describe last week’s days on appropriate days this week – already time is moving on and I haven’t replied to o’night posts yet – and we have chiropody this afternoon and a meeting this evening! And now it feels like thunder in the air!
Annette- good to read your lovely long post written in the evening. Glad to read that Delilah does not have a food allergy problem after all. Good memory is not always a blessing – other people rely too much on me remembering for them and my brain is so full of serendipity that I don’t always have instant recall! Such wonderful news about 2011 Whale count – how long before these calves reach breeding age?
I’m amazed at AQ being so calm just before jetting off halfway around the globe on her own like that! I get really jittery before going 100 miles in the car, and the thought of travelling anywhere in the south of England makes me physically ill!
Jay-Me – hope we shall continue to see you here, despite the extra busy time at work!
Wendy – I hope your meet with Sheila tomorrow goes according to plan and that today’s weather is not so extreme for your trip to the coast. It has quietened down here, except for some short sudden squalls. Wind was from SW yesterday, now from North.
Good afternoon, Margo. Sorry if I gave a wrong impression – when I mentioned the time taken by email notifications, I was meaning those related to Personal Messaging – I have never used automated notification for “all posts” (I just read them all on here direct, because there is always something going on!) so I don’t know whether they are still happening – try looking on your profile page to see if that option is still available.
George – sorry the trees in your parks have taken such a bashing. Glad that Diesel had you to comfort him when he was scared of the wind. Do take care when you are out and about if the weather worsens again.
Now off to chiropodist.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Cirrus if you have IE8 you should have tabs. Perhaps you have an earlier version. Have checked and IE9 is not available for windows XP or windows 2003 server.
If you click on 'help' in your browser it should give you an 'about internet explorer' option. It should say in there which version you have.

Afternoon all: How excited am I off to LG tomorrow to meet SheilaFE and I will have 2 humbugs to look at.
Newly back from shopping trip ti Elgin then a sneaky Starbucks and a drive to Roseisle for a walk along the beach to Burghead. The wind was behind me, well more like a gale, and if I had had shorts on I would have had sandblasted legs. Came back through the woods through a downpour and when I got back to the car I was the only person there usually so busy there it felt really strange.
It is still blowing hard and it was a chilly 7degrees when I put the car in the garage.
Neither of our 2 local windfarms are operating.....as you know my feelings on them I will say no more.
Findind this site really slow...it's not my PC as everything else I use is pretty snappy.
What a wonderful walk Wendy and good on you. Brave. You deserved your Starbucks. You'll have such a fantastic time at LG and yes, two wee humbugs to delight you .
I think (engineers out there please correct me) that wind turbines cannot use such wild winds ??? and have to be turned off ?????

Hi Chloe: yes, it's 8 . Thanks for that . I'm just not PC literate obviously although I'm not a luddite or afraid of Tech I cannot for the life of me find out how to turn a new tab ON. It's so easy in Firefox. I have discovered I turned on one tab quite inadvertently and having accidently closed it have no idea how to turn it or any other on again.(smacks hand on brow, eyes closed )
Oh yes Cirrus they do have to be turned off....then they need a good dose of electricity to get them going...mmmmmm
Hope all of you in the North are coping OK with these awful winds. Ours have died down a bit now, just rather breezy and the sun has come out from behind the clouds quite a bit since lunchtime.
Had a successful shopping trip - took in M& S, where I got some smart shoes half price - they are more shoe like than sandal like, although they have a peep toe & the idea is they are for being 'dressed up' when going out. Of course OH had to be convinced of the fact that I need more shoes when I returned, as he thinks there are enough around on the bedroom floor already! Explained for the 20th time since being married, that men only need about 3 pairs to go with everything, whereas us ladies need 50+ !! (exaggerating)
Friend and I had a nice lunch in John Lewis, and no cake :-(
Wendy - have a good trip to LG, and tell us all about it later!
Neighbour has had yet more visitors today, so there are folks looking out for her, and I expect she is busy telling them that she is 'just fine'.
