I wonder if the lovely wee bobble head will be joined by a sibling today :)
EJ half snoozing at the moment, protecting chick #1 from the elements.
I'm off to roost for a few hours. See you soon.

Oh Robert that was one of the most tense 10 days of my life. However instead of being sent to peregrine prison S2 paired up with Pa and they have had chicks every year since. Indeed they have chicks right now. See Pa and S2
PS This should really be on the weekly thread.
Thanks Tiger, glad to see the 'new' pair are still raising chicks, and three nice healthy-looking ones this year too :-)
And thanks too for the heads up on the correct forum, will head over there now.

Thank you, Brenda. I had managed to find the blog, but didn't realize there were comments!

Yes I noticed the same too, on all the sources I use (the RSPB embedded webcam, the Carnyx site, and my own preferred way of viewing in the stand-alone VLC player), so it appears the feed has been changed. Whether this has happened at the site or the server which streams the video out onto the Internet I don't know, but the format has changed from 320x240 (standard 4:3) in which I captured my older photos and videos, to 320x200 (9:5, or 18:10, more or less widescreen format which is 16:9 officially). It will be interesting to find out why this has been done, maybe we will read something on the next blog entry....
BTW if anyone wants to view the cam on the RSPB page without so much black background, zoom in to 200% (right-click, zoom, select '200%'). The Silverlight player on the Carnyx site has more options for filling the window, including stretching rather than fitting.

Yes the file format (actually 'container format') is .asf, common for streamed MS video, although it's encoded within as standard separate wmv and wma video and audio streams. Often you can't view (or edit) recorded files in this format unless you have the correct decoders. There are various freeware applications online which will do it though. I use VLC player, which has lots of conversion options, but it's quite technical, and others may be able to suggest more user-friendly software.
Hope this helps!

I'm a big VLC fan although I've never managed to get it to convert anything successfully! Usually I use Handbrake or DvdFab and they can cope with just about anything. With these streams though I had to let Replay Media Catcher do the converting after I'd finished recording. But your post gave me an idea - if the file is essentially wmv then Windows Movie Maker might be able to deal with it - so I gave it a shot and it looks like it'll work! So thank you so much for the tip! :)
Hi MsTree
I was very interested to read your post as I have been trying to edit the video I downloaded of Odin first meeting his new chick this year, and there are a couple of bits in there I would love to delete. I must investigate this further
Best wishes Chris

I use Jaksta to download and convert video as Real Player won't do it for some reason. I then use Windows Live Movie Maker if I need to edit.

Golly, need to do a serious read of the pages I've missed, but just to say EJ has sensibly kept the remainder of the feed mostly under her at the back /
