Wow. Radio Chaffinch going full blast (or was it my laptop?) this morning; EJ on nest looking about.

  • Well  if she had taken the fish Odin brought earlier she wouldn't be hungry.  Maybe next time she think  twice before she  refuses his offerings :)

She is getting spoiled to him bringing fish when ever she calls.

I guess she forgot how it was with OVS

  • odin brings in a fish (highlighted)

ej eventually takes it and goes

  • That was very strange!! I heard a fuss and came through to see EJ and Odin. I couldn't see a fish, and EJ flew off ... then Odin started eating a fish on the nest! EJ immediately flew back, took the fish and flew away with it.

  • i think EJ was just flying away the 1st time so that she wouldn't trample the eggs getting to the fish. odin had positioned it away from her initially

  • Hi Pharazon.  I heard EJ calling and saw Odin bring the fish in.  EJ stood up to take it and I assumed flew off  with it, but was busy taking snips, when I heard chirruping again and it seemed that EJ brought the fish in again??  Then she flew off for a second time.  Not really too sure what was going on.  Perhaps an intruder was around.

EJ flew off leaving Odin to take charge of the eggs

I was checking these Snips when I heard chirruping again and cleared the screen to see EJ with fish back again briefly - failed to catch it.

She flew off and Odin in now settled.  There is a shaft of sunshine, so the overnight rain had cleared, and there is a gentle breeze.

  • Thanks DjoanS and Pharazon.  You have explained what I missed!!  From you captures it looks as though the fish was on the wrong side of Odin for her to reach and I saw her flying off to come back to pick it up.  It all makes sense now!  On my second capture I now realise you can see the fish on the side of the nest!  I should really just watch and not try to take captures!

  • Good morning all and many thanks to Annette for night wach and commentary together with pic, Barbara Jean  for your input, DjoanS, Sheila FE for pics  and Pharazon  for fish report.  Seems it was a bit confusing on the nest for a while as to where the fish came from and where it went.  Looks like Odin sitting on tne eggs and being blown about a bit by the wind.  Lots of showers forecast for LG today so fishing might be a bit difficult but we all know Odin is good at fishing in the worst weather.

  • EJ currently on a blustery but dry nest.  Heard a few drops of rain a short while ago, but it soon stopped.

  • It seems to have stopped raining now.

  • Odin on the eggs, but he's not happy ... chirruping and wing-flicking ... must be an intruder about.

EDIT - according to Caroline in a note on the main blog ... Odin brought in the third fish of the day ... so that's why he's on the eggs!!
