How Will The Software Upgrade of 16th May Affect The Loch Garten Group?

As we know from the announcement today the software upgrade will take place from Monday 16th May.

I have decided to start a thread dedicated to discussing how these changes will affect our "Loch Garten Group".

It seems as if groups will cease to exist under the new system.

I guess we have to use the seven days we have to discuss the implications on the change on our community.

  • WHAT!!!???!!!!   Has anyone posted a question on the main blog?  Egads!

  • Phew!  Just read Weekly Chat and Diane's take on the upcoming changes and feeling a bit more relieved. What I'm wondering is if it'll be hard to find the Loch Garten Daily Update and Loch Garten Weekly Chat threads among all the others, or if there'll be some kind of subheadings.  I supposed it would help if I went and read the original Software Upgrade announcement.

Incidentally, I'm leaving for Arizona Sunday for a week, so won't be around for the re-launch...

  • And I'm busy trying to make friends with those I've known so long but haven't made a friend just in case I would like to leave a personal message on their pages. -      ( one never knows! )

  • If the groups vanish will we have a  personal page?

We need to  share how to  get to this forum if it is still available.

I sure hope we don't have to go back to the  main blog forum. It attracts  too many  pushy people over there that want to start arguments . We have a nice amiable  group here .

  • I agree with you and Tiger and  Barbara - we've been so fortunate in only having one Troll and two posts (one of these by way of saying ''goodbye'' )  by a potential Troll. We are all '' Good Eggs''.

Incidentally  - how does one win the award ?  I'd vote you all as Good Eggs   :)

  • I re-read the announcement and it says all messages left on someone's page will be deleted with the new system and be replaced  with a  private email message feature.

Maybe we should make a list of questions about the new system and then someone can forward them to the center for answers.

My questions  so far are :

Will we still be able to post screen shots?

Will all  LG Osprey threads be lumped together into one? (That would be a mess.)

I am sure we will think of more questions

At the moment "Good Egg" awards are handed out by the moderators which in my view is a horrible conflict of interest.

In my view "Good Egg" awards are divisive and are not a good idea.

As you say the members of this group have behaved in an exemplary manner with the only goal being to have a nice community.

  • Barbara Jean  I was wondering about the messages already on our pages. If people value the messages then they need to copy them elsewhere so that they are not erased.

  • There certainly seem to be a lot of implications here, not least the possibility that we are to lose our precious and friendly Group.

Thanks to Tiger for starting this thread - there is not a lot of time left to discuss this!

  • Hello Tiger,

I agree with you about the 'good egg' status - I've never seen the point of it. I have no idea of the criteria for it being awarded, so it's not useful to me. That's one thing I would be happy to leave behind with the upgrade.

With any Internet forum, people should dip their toe in rather than barging right in anyway, and it will soon become obvious who to turn to for particular advice.

I would also like to know exactly how the forums (fora??) will be organised, and whether it will be just as easy to start new threads as it is now.
