Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

  • LizLFW: Not heard that saying "grockel" much since we moved up here. When we lived down south it was a common word and when you added "box" you had a car towing a caravan. When you mentioned Mor is that the one at the forestery visitors centre...if so I was there today having a nice fruit scone.

Not sure about fresh snow on the Cairngorms, though it was pretty chilly, as there was too much cloud.

  • Good afternoon everyone...I've had a busy day so far, so this is the first time I've managed to dip in, although I've read everyones messages, thank you.  Firstly had haircut, then tackled the shopping, which I hate.  Then due to feeding all the birds in the local area :-) I thought I had better tackle cleaning down the fence where they all sit and wait, probably to the annoyance of one particular neighbour, although the fence doesnt encroach on anyone elses land, at the end of the day they give me great pleasure.  Also managed to fit in a short river trip, before partner goes to work, beats the football...weather here is cool but dry.

OG... loved your photos, Heuchera are a particular favourite of mine.

  • I also wanted to ask you computer experts out there, how do you take your photos off the screen?!  I am totally baffled!  Help someone please.

You mean how do we take screen grabs?

Assuming you are using a PC you hit <print screen>  This copies whatever is on your screen to what is called the clipboard. Then you open a programe like "Paint" and you paste the contents of the clipboard into paint. From there you can manipulate the image and save it to your computer.

  • Realised when I posted that I had missed a whole page!  My brain is obviously already on holiday!

Lindy – beautiful blossom!  Glad we shall be getting more photos from you!

Joan – pleased you had a Sparrowhawk experience!  Beautiful Azalea!  Here is our third Dwarf Azalea – in bloom later than the others:

Wendy – sorry it is cold with you – variable here in terms of sun etc, but even breeze is warm.  Only one shower today – ten minutes during lunch.  Nice that your OH is going to stay with Daisy May – and your Daughter ! – while on his business tip south.

Liz – Daughter and her OH both did a daily commute from the Fort up the Great Glen to Inverness for a year before they moved (due to boys’ exam schedules).  Family members down south who knew no better used to sympathise with “that road in winter”, but they said it was much worse with the caravans in the summer season.  BTW, hadn’t heard “grockels” used since my Dad was in Minehead and they talked about the grockels visiting there!

Oooo! I see another page started, so must post this quick.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • LIZLFW  yes Dores Inn and Storehouse are owned by the same people.

OH took Dillon out this am before we went for swim and came back laughing. Unlike our last 2 Goldies Dillon thinks cats were put on this earth for him to chase. They were nearly home so Dillon was on a lead when he saw a cat and lunged at it. OH said it stood up, doubled in size and hissed and spat for all it was worth. Dillon leapt back crying, he hadn't realised cats did such a thing. Doubt if it will teach him a lesson for the future though. He will be 9 tomorrow and I have bought him yet another furry toy. Am I nuts or what? I spend my life tidying them up and tripping over them as it is!!!!

  • LIZLFW  Interested to know where "Mor" is as love anywhere that serves good bread

  • Thank you to everyone for the lovely garden pics. What a wonderful colourful site this is.

  • Dibnlib: I am pretty sure "Mor" is at the Glenmore visitors centre oposite the camp site on the left after Loch Morlich. We were there today...coffee good, my scone was also good and can't make comment on OH's beef sandwich. It was pretty pink, just as he likes it.

  • Tiger....many thanx for that, I shall give it a go..  It really has been driving me crackers for some while now.
