Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

  • Good morning OH out shopping and have just about caught up with all the posts.  Very busy on here, I think we are all trying to say everything before the upgrade which I hope goes smoothly and even more so I hope I can find all my wonderful friends when I return from Florence.

Had a wonderful anniversary meal last evening.  OH took me to a favourite pub of nine in the New Forest.  Lots of horses to see and quite a nice evening although a little chilly.  We started off with a Deli Board for two witn assortment of meats, cheeses, olives, chutney and lots of warm crusty bread and it was delicious. OH then had a chicken dish with Boursin cheese over it with fresh veg and potatoes.  I opted for chicken and choritzo rissotto but couldn't quite finish it due the starter,   All absolutely lovely though and OH finished up what I left as he often does.  2 glasses of white for me and a beer for OH as he was driving.  A very enjoyable evening but I was somewhat full when we got home so stayed up for a while.  We left Billie in again whilte we were out and no problems on our return, she was fast asleep and probably didn't realise we had gohe.  She climbed up on my lap for an hour before she went out for the night and we went to bed.  Didn't sleep too well as I think I had probably had too much to eat, serves me right though.   Billie is being looked after by a neighbour while we are away who is coming round to feed her, leave water and giving her a stroke.  Just hope she doesn't take offence at us going away and will here when we return.

Lindybird bit cold and windy here today although the sun is coming out between the clouds.  Hope you have a good weekend and so pleased that you feel so much better now.

Annette  thanks for the link to the dog video.   Gave me such a laugh and how clever.  Sorry you had a bad start to Friday 13th hope Lightening has recovered now.  I too hope that I can find everyone again when we come back from Florence.  Trying not to worry about it too much now but there will probably be a bit of a panic when I log in looking for all my friends.

LizLFW glad you had a nice day out at LG with your friends from Swanage which is my neck of the woods so to speak.  Will be going up there myself to volunteer from June 11 to June 18 and getting very excited about it now.

OG  so sorry you  and OH have been so worried about your son.  He has wonderful parents though and hopefully he will come through the financial crisis with your help.  Hope you both will be able to relax a bit while you are away.  Love the pic of Vernon the Vole and he is rather sweet.

Lynette thanks for the pics of your robin and blackbird and also for the capture of the little fluff balls in the goshawk nest.

dibnlib lovely pic taken by your OH of your Azaela, what a gorgeous colour.

Wendy  glad Tiger Lily enjoyed her tuna but even Billie goes off on the hunt straght after eating.  Goes out in the garden and goes through the motions of stalking birds but doesn't really seem very interested in catching them.  Think she just does it because she thinks the effort should be made.  I hope the weather will be fairly decent when I go to LG but I think I will take whatever comes as I will just be over the moon to be there at long last.  Counting down the days now.

DjoanS thanks for the link to the woodpecker story.  I can laugh but it must be quite annoying for those who are being driven mad by his constant drilling.  Hope he finds a mate soon bless him.

SheilaFE thanks for the link to the Dyfi story.  As you rightly say it could have been a sad story.  So pleased that they were spotted and then apprehended by the police.

ALICAT so pleased that Bobbie's training is going so well.  She is certainly keeping you busy.

Trish 2 so sorry about the incident you had with the other dogs.  Pleased that you and Mia are fine but it must have been very frightening and even more of a worry is that it has seemed to have happened before.
Good that the flyball training went well and Mia enjoyed it.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and do take care of yourselves.

  • OG where does Vernon the vole live at LG.  I'll have to try and see him on one of my many visits!

Margo glad you had a lovely meal.  I can never sleep when I've been out.  I normally fall asleep in the blink of an eye but after a night out it takes me ages to settle down.

  • Cirrus   and everyone else going on holiday, have a great time.

  • SheilaFE -  friends are already interested in wildlife, but had never had the opportunity "to be up close and personal" with the ospreys - thoroughly enjoyed their visit and now know where to watch the nest on the RSPB website (they are already members)

OG - am mostly a reader and sometimes have the time to put in comments - memo to me - must do so more often!!

Trish2 - Vernon the vole is usually seen at the bird feeders by the back door of the Osprey Visitor Centre.  Sorry to read about your encounter with the Staffie type dogs - leaves an uncomfortable feeling afterwards, doesn't it?  As you say, by the sound of it it had happened before, so it is no wonder that people have become wary of those types.

  • Yipee!  found a new Site to resize my pics - here is my Apple Blossom from last month:

  • Afternoon all ... very windy here, and it has clouded over ... looks like we are in for rain! Had a thrilling experience this morning(well, thrilling for me!). I was reading the paper in the conservatory and glanced up to see what I thought was a collared dove standing on the ground near the bird table. Then I realised it was a male sparrowhawk ... but I wasn't quick enough to get a picture. I'm not sure if he'd eaten his prey or if he had missed, but he flew away with empty talons!

Linda - gorgeous Apple Blossom picture ... glad you have found a good place to re-size them!

It seems to be a good year for blossom ... dibnlib ... your azalea was beautiful. Ours is beautiful this year too ... took a pic a couple of days ago.

I hope all who have gone on their holidays, and those about to go, have safe journeys.

    Back later!

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • What a lovely sight to see, beautiful azaleas from dibnlib and Joan, and also apple blossom from Linda. Strangely though, this is the worst year for our azaleas. We have very few flowers on ours. Two of  the plants have died.

OG, Do have a brilliant few days away and I hope the weather is fine for you both.

Will have to catch up with all your posts.

  • DjoanS another gorgeous pic of an azeala and such a pretty pink.  Wonderful you saw a sparrowhawk in your garden, if he had caught something he would have plucked it there leaving just a neat tidy pile of feathers.  That is the way I know when my female sparrowhawks visit.
