Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

  • Thanks for the pics Lynette and good luck with the tickets.

  • Alan these little humbugs are just so gorgeous, I love it when they are like this.

  • Afternoon all ... well ... its just started to rain heavily after I put some washing in the machine ... obviously it will dry inside!! I had an interesting day yesterday, although I was nearly 'boggle-eyed' by the end of it. I took the poorly desktop to be seen to .... the chap was really good and wanted to know all that was wrong. He offered to repair it at a cost ... or give me printed details of how to do it ourselves for free! Naturally I took the latter option ... and I did it myself as OH was working until late ... felt very proud of myself as I am no computer expert :-) All seems to be working well ... so far!

It is lovely to come on here and read all the chat ... and how everyone is looking out for each other ... as we always do. It is such a lovely friendly place to be!

Just a few replies ... OG - brilliant link to Caerlaverock webcam ... thanks ... and love the bit about the birds snuggling together :-)))  Just read about your cleaner ... oh no :-(   Wendy - gorgeous pic of Tiger Lily ... lovely that she can spend her time peacefully with you. Linda - glad you are getting sorted with your medication ... I hope your day is turning out to be as quiet as you hoped.

Eurovision on Saturday? .... to me its never been the same since Terry Wogan left, apart from the politcal voting :-(    Jedward ... OMG whatever next!!

Thanks to everyone else for pics etc

    Take care

  • WE GOT SOUND !!!!!!!!!!!

  • EVERYBODY -- WE GOT SOUND AND IT'S BLOWING A HOOLEY AT LG    :))

  • Hello Everyone.  It is a blustery day here:  blue sky, large white and grey clouds and some sunshine.  We have even had one minute of rain!!

bettyboo I know St Neots and have cycled around Grafham Water!  I lived at Eaton Socon at the end of the 50s and early 60s - yep, I'm that old! I had been told that you can usually see Red Kites from the A14/A1.  They are clearly 'spreading their wings',  I too see buzzards regularly from home.  I just love the way they play and soar on the thermals so effortlessly.

Wendyb Tiger Lily is such a pretty puss.  She doesn't look 16 years old.  So nice that your garden is a safe haven for her, and very well done in obviously tactfully pointing out to your neighbour that she was unwell.  My old puss, who died not long after we moved here, had a kidney infection when quite young and took himself off to die - but didn't.  He crept back looking so scared and dusty.  His eyes were like saucers.

    WE HAVE SOUND

Will post this and be back.

Edit:  not too sure the sound is permanent!  It keeps coming and going!  But coming at present.

Perhaps the wind is from another direction and blowing two bits of wire together  -:))

    I hope it works!

Well that worked. Now make it posh!  :)

  • Any way, to continue the tale of Sooty, my black cat.  Fortunately he responded to medication and lived to a ripe old age, although sadly I had to have him put to sleep when he got a chest infection which went to pneumonia and it just seemed best, given his age.  I was in such a state, and was offered the back door to leave the vet!

Tiger super photos of the Blackwater Eagles together.

AQ have a lovely holiday, and bring back lots of photos please!

OG sorry to hear that your new cleaner is herself incapacitated.  Your OH deserves a hug for his HW efforts!  Thanks for the Caeverlock link.  Although I should perhaps say, oh no, not another to add to my already weighty favourites!!  There are not enough hours in the day!

Alan thank you so much for the link to Ken's write up on his night watch experience.  I could almost have been there with him.

I couldn't resist adding these.  Remember the open-topped box outside my kitchen window in which I put sunflower hearts?

The redlegged partridge discovered this last evening and came back today!  and was joined by Radio Chaffinch who was obviously concerned that we couldn't hear him near the nest!!

and looking for these photos I came across a photo taken in March of a frog in my pond!
