Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

  • Tiger:Thanks for Georges link.

Cirrus:Tiger Lily is so cute but being the age she is ..nobody really knows but vet says maybe 16 or 17. In her hunting days she was very aloof. Her hunting days are now over as she sits in the rough ground behind the cottage for hours just looking. OH is convinced she has forgotten what she is looking at, she also cries a lot which is just like my last cat Lucy. Took her to the vet convinced she must be in pain but she diagnosed dementia...a very common thing I gather in elderly cats. Any way neighbour has been asked to get a wee sample to test kidney function, litter tray with special granuals in it but Tiger is having none of and after being in for hours she must have a bladder the size of a football.

Just back from a blustery walk along the Spey...went off piste and was rewarded with a majestic heron who must be finding it so easy to fish as the river is very low. In a backwater a mum duck with 5 little ones.

Well shopping mission to Elgin and then hair cut so will catch up leter.

  • She is gorgeous, Wendy!   Sorry to hear she may have dementia.  At least she is enjoying her life in her own way.

  • Was worried that Terry would return from hols and not know where to look so have requested as Friend with message about changes, and also put the top strapline in a separate comment on her page!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hey, Guys!  Caerlaverock camera has gone live here: http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit-us/caerlaverock/osprey-live-web-cam  Only 10-5 daily, but a good steady view - time limit is due to being battery powered and recharged overnight because it is very remote!  Sorry if anyone had already posted this!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good Morning ALL,  I have just remembered Sandy, who has been very quiet, but I see Cirrus had already remembered him.

Linda, I hope you continue to improve and have no more bad nights.

Wendy, What a beautiful cat. She still looks s young.

Will have to look in again, I have been on the phone to our son and also Sister-in-Law who now has a grandson, who is to be called Hamish. I refrained from saying that I knew of a dog, who also has that name.

  • AAAAAHH! (from Caerlaverock)

"Whilst incubation continues we were treated yesterday to an unusual sight- both parent ospreys sitting side by side on the nest on the eggs! Usually there is a quick handover between them , as one bird quickly takes their chance to have some time off and go fishing, whilst the other stays with the eggs. It is not often both birds are on the nest together for long at this stage, let alone snuggled up with one another so comfortably."

  • My friend came to lunch (homemade soup and choc cake), arriving as OH went out. We were still nattering, ie organising the world, when OH returned mid-pm! Goodness gracious me, when I checked my emails this morn! Thank you to all who have requested my friendship - I have only had time to accept. I don’t mean to be rude by not replying to your comments. It’s just that time is running out and I am starting run around like a headless chook, as the saying goes. I’ve managed to send out some friend requests, hoping no one gets missed.

OG - Whatever you wear to the wedding, you should feel comfortable in. Otherwise you will have a strained look on your face.

Dibnlib - My bus tour route is Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Black Forest, Munich, Nurnberg, Rothenburg, Bayreuth, Dresden, Berlin. Then I fly to Vienna for few days.

Annette - My kids saved the facts of life questions for the times when I was trapped in a supermarket queue . . . with an interested audience.

Sorry, I’m too distracted to reply to everyone. You are a great bunch.

  • Grateful to you OG in regards to Terry. (who else may we have missed) .

Brenda Yes, I requested LoTH s Sandra but did I request Sandy ??  are you sure?

Wonderful news about the live vid at Caerlaverock OG . It looks a dark day there !!!!

  • Rejoice with me - I've just had a juvenile Thrush on my patio wall eating the oats and even the resident Blackbird let him eat . Yes, I'm quite sure he or she wasn't a juvenile Blackbird as I have those too.   :)    Actually, they are noticeably smaller than juvenile Blackbirds.

  • Cirrus - only about 12 miles west of us, but not that dark here!  Weather often travels past us to Moffat - which it is very often wet when we are not!  Not that its perfect here - we had enough rain an hour ago to prevent mowing - again!

Just had phonecall from cleaning agency - our new lady is in an ambulance on the way to hospital after  a bad fall at home!!
