Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

  • DIANE. Thanks for that explanation. You've made it all sound quite easy.

BARBARAJEAN, Don't give up.I have much the same problems. This site is very good at giving technical advice. CIRRUS gave me some very good info on MW Snap.

TIGER. Your Talking Dog clip had me chuckling.

Lots of activity on the Gos nest this morning. Female brought in food ....something fur, not feather..... and started feeding chicks. Male made a brief visit. I had no idea that Goshawks had such varied calls, some quite melodic, as they are usually silent away from the nest.

The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it's not open.

  • So much debate about windfarms but one thing is for sure, they are a blight on the landscape. Heard yesterday there is talk of landowners being allowed to kill a certain number of the more common birds of prey    grrrrrrrrrr

  • Tiger

I got in to the nest cam with the link  Robert the Bruce provided  on Carnyx .  Whew

  • Agree to those earlier. NO to scottish I ndependence. Don't understand free prescriptions - those who can pay should pay. Can't moan about NHS dentist though. OH and I are lucky enough to have one for everyday treatment though took 3 years to get onto his list.

  • Good Morning ALL. Thank you so much for all the friendship requests/ acceptances. Hopefully we will find one another very easily under the new system. We may need a 'lost and found ' page to start with.  :-)
I spent most of yesterday doing the HW and then went to watch OH play bowls. They were a lovely group of people, who were trying to 'encourage me to join them. I said I would give it a try, but there is no way I will wear the box pleated skirt that quite a few of the lady members were wearing, so thank goodness some were wearing trousers.

Tiger, The Talking Dog video is so funny

Barbara Jean, So sorry about your computer problems. You are not going to " ruin any of our days by whining",  but I do realise your frusration by not being able to see the nest. I do hope there is somebody on here who can help you.

Auntie, Good to hear you have been able to enjoy some time outside and watch your three nests. This has been a quiet time on the LG nest and even quieter without any sound !!

Patricia, It is a very difficult situation for you, although it is so obvious that you are in need of a very well deserved break.  I really do hope that you can sort something out.

George, Lovely to hear that you are feeling a little better. It is so very normal to feel as you do. The loss of somebody as dear as your wife was to you, can still 'hit' you at any time and at the most unexpected times. Do come on here and talk.

Alan,  I hope Hamish is improving and there will be nothing to worry about. I also hope you are able to enjoy your holidays along with a fit Hamish. I don't say it very often, but a big thank you for all your various bird updates and captures.

Annette, That was good news about the whale count. Sorry, but I did laugh at your handbag saga. I would so have enjoyed the Mozart quartet and the Brukner quintet.

Diane, Brilliant advice at the end of your post. As you say, I am sure we will muddle through.

OG, I know I am outnumbered here, but I was married at 3.30pm followed by photographs and a sit down meal at a hotel, which then led into music and dancing. I did change out of my wedding dress though and we didn't leave for our honeymoon until the following day. My son had the same kind of wedding. Confession over now !!

This is one of those mornings, when the phone keeps ringing. I started writing this post over an hour ago !  Just heard from OH's sister that her daughter-in-law has gone into labour, so I am sure the phone will be ringing a lot more.

  • Hi guys, I think you might be interested in this: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2011/05/11/osprey-chick-is-earliest-to-hatch-in-uk-91466-28671435/

Just back from a much needed hair cut.  Back to nice short and tidy, which can be finger dried with a blower!  Now I must go back and read all that has been written since yesterday pm.  My, what a lot has been said, and I guess a lot is about the IT upgrade.  Thank you Diane for being such a calming influence.  I am another who has been busily making friends, but there are so many of us it will be impossible, so I am crossing fingers and assuming everything will be OK!!

  • Sheila    Trying to see if I can make that link live!

  • ALAN Poor Hamish and you. Really going through the mill at the mo.

  • Linda, Hope all goes well for you at the Doctor's. We can't help worrying.

Alan, Oh dear, poor Hamish. Is there another attraction at the vets that you like, or maybe it is Hamish just likes the vet or nurse :-)) .

Sheila, Thanks for the Glaslyn News.

EDIT Have you noticed the second chick has hatched.

  • Dibnlib you'll have to let us know what you think of the new car.  We keep mulling over what to get next time and a V50 was OH's latest suggestion.  I must admit I was a little surprised.  We've got a hatchback at the moment but could do with an estate.  The car was always full to the brim going on holiday before but with Mia and her gear it's even worse!

It's 3 years today since we got Mia so a day for celebration!  Maybe she'll bring us luck and our Lotto numbers will come up tonight!  We've been for a good walk but I still feel guilty about going to work soon and leaving her for the afternoon.  OH won't be back until about 9 today either which is a shame.  Can't remember if I've told you this already but we start flyball tomorrow night.  It's at the same club that we do agility so I think we'll have that one week in 3 along with a straight and a bendy week as we call it with the agility.  It should be interesting to say the least.

I've had an email today about becoming a friend.  What happens with this?  I'm abit of a wimp when it comes to this sort of thing.  I've got a friend who keeps sending emails to join facebook but I'm just so wary of it.  I've only just discovered the personal page that opens up when you click on your name today due to all the recent concerns over the upgrade!
