Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.
Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.
Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.
Alan -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.
Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!
Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.
Morning All. Diane Thanks for the link to the Red Tailed Hawk story. I seem to recall reading a piece from Valmc when she was near 'her' nest and mountain bikers came noisily through the forest beneath the nest. Before she could approach the cyclists to give them a bit of her mind, the osprey attacked them and the bikers scapered pdq! I can understand the ignorance, but it is no excuse.

re: Hawk Attack
At the end of this news article (see link below), a student, who was in the building where the birds are nesting, left a comment. He said that the "victim" actually was climbing the fire escape to get to the hawk nest and take a picture; he wasn't just walking by on the sidewalk. http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news/local/man-dive-bombed-by-hawks-on-tufts-campus-20110507
I suspect the student's account is true. Most birds, even birds of prey, will give a warning -- swooping, screeching, and maybe giving a person a warning bump -- before they actually attack. I thought that the fierceness and urgency of the attack suggested that the guy may have provoked those hawks.
OG hmm. Had a similar experience with nephew's wedding. Wedding at 1.00pm, reception following with sit down meal and speeches, then evening do all rolled into one, and carriages at 2.00am. Loud music and not really knowing that many folk there, we managed to leave at 10.00pm, in time to get home, open a bottle and see the New Year in on our own!! Antisocial perhaps, but it was wrong to stay just for the sake of it! Might have been different if I could have persuaded OH to remove his jacket and take to the dance floor though!!
Hi Cirrus. It is quite a chore getting ready for a SC holiday. Our Scotland hols are usually that, and it is our dear friend near Kinross who is the organiser. She has lists - as you say perishables and non-perishables, general clothing and hill walking gear. OH & I are usually in charge of the red wine and Guinness for the week. She also prepares three or more frozen meals and we buy the rest locally, and usually have one good meal out a week. If OH and I are away together we usually eat out each night!! I am sure we will 'speak' before then, but have a great time on Dartmoor if not. We head north Sunday week, so have another fortnight yet, but looking forward to a couple of days at LG mid-week following.
OG: That is some marathon with the wedding, I remember in the good old days we got married had one reception and left about 6pm for our honeymoon. I think part of the wedding is that everyone witnesses the actual marriage and I am not a lover of this modern 2 tiered event.
Annette It's funny how there is always another version of a story like that. One would have thought that if attacks were common, and the nest is so close to windows in the building which could be opened at any time, the birds would not have been allowed to actually build their nest, let alone lay eggs. The chap was foolish in wanting to take centre stage and be interviewed!! Someone was bound to give the true version. Serves him right.
Edit: couldn't agree with you more Wendy! When I was married (not to my OH) we had a lunch time wedding followed by reception, and we left around 4.30pm to drive to Dovedale, to a smart hotel in a banger of a car, packed to the gunnels with camping gear! I think we were somewhat out of place! We were heading to Scotland.
Morning all ... a lovely day here, after the torrential rain over the weekend ... much needed though.
Linda - thanks for the Monday Smiles! I've never done the handbag one ... but I have been known to drive off with something on the roof ... in the days before remote key fobs :-)
OG - I hope you enjoy your trip to the Metro Centre ... not my favourite place, even though its only 20 minutes away. I will have to go sometime soon and get something to wear for my godson's graduation ... he assures me that jeans, t-shirt and trainers will NOT do!! More lovely pictures from your visit to Threave Castle ... and I adored the cottage garden ones on last week's Chat.
Diane - how scary for that poor man and the red-tailed hawks ... so lucky not to lose his eye. EDIT - just read your comment about him possibly provoking them .... mmm ... maybe he deserved what he got!
Annette - shame about your lake cruise ... but the substitute pancakes etc sound wonderful. the handbag chase sounds interesting :-))
Cirrus - how lovely to be going to Dartmoor. I tnink we won't be going away until well into the autumn ... OH has quite a lot of work in the foreseeable future. I can't complain though as we had a week in Cork not too long ago!
Margobird - I loved your account of staying up with Billie during the thunderstorm!
Sheila - I am getting used to my laptop now ... but still tend to 'lose' things! Yes ... my team, Sunderland, did have a win on Saturday ... perhaps a bit lucky, but we are safe from relegation now :-)) I gather you are off to Scotland soon ... lucky you!
Thanks to everyone for the chat etc ... I love to read it all!
Take care.
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

RE Weddings tiers Wendy. I do agree. The reception is not the cake , is it? I blame the bride for wanting to prance around in ''that'' dress all night :) tongue in cheek here you understand. I've decided - wedding at 4 pm - I suppose photos might take 45 mins so jazz band and champers with canapes until 6 pm Then ''the wedding breakfast dinner'' at the end of which leave guests to it at their own expense and swan off in to my own sunset having much better things to do :) (might have to revise times for jazz band and champer)
Sheila - now there's the thing ! Being in charge of the wine.. Yes !!
Diane Thank you for the item about the hawk attack.
Here is a lovely picture of a hawk and its chick by Lincoln Karim. It does not look as if Pale Male will breed this year either.
However even though late there has been at least one hatching on this nest.
Tiger Signature
Oh, that photo is beautiful, Tiger! Terrific webcam and bravo on the successful hatching. Thanks for those. That's a shame about Pale Male, though.
