Afternoon all: Geez. May already? This happens every year!

Sitting in garden with laptop! Under umbrella in shorts and trying to ID a pale pink hybrid rose I didn't think I'd bought but which is now blooming like mad. I went out to buy orange/apricot/peach and yellow roses and have no idea how this pale pink one got into the mix. Also, it doesn't have a little metal label, which the others do, and I'm wondering if it didn't get into the wrong bin at La Sumida, where I bought six bare roots. In the meantime, Amber Flower Carpet and Julia Child roses are doing brilliantly...  Met friends for breakfast this morning: Had a egg-white and seasonal veggie mix - won't make that mistake again! Very boring and challenging since nothing stayed on my fork. Was forced to rectify the situation with a cafe au lait and a boysenberry and lemon scone!

Diane: I have a visor and a sweathshirt with a hood that I wear on windy days at the whale count. That's it! Daughter has several cowboy hats, including one with a woven decorative band she made from hair taken from Cimarron's tail (the horse she had to put down Feb 10). I'll check out Trucker Steve next.

Alicat: Bet you had fun with Bobbie. Have you sorted your naughty OH yet? :-)

Wendy: Dolphin visit sounds like fun.

Sheila: Argh! Take care of that knee. Geez. A 1.5 hour wait for food? Did everyone complain loudly?  Apparently, several of our channels repeated the wedding video throughout the day yesterday; I'm watching the recording a bit at a time; can't stand to be inside on a lovely day.

OG: More fab azaleas! Good news that son is trying the part-time option; hope it works out for him. Really understand "more money than sense," which also applies to grandson who, sad to say, doesn't have much money, so .....! Still, he's young yet and as always, we live in hopes. Little vole looks awfully sweet.

Hallo also to Lynette. It's past 4; can now officially start new Weekly Chat!

  • You can just make out the chicks bottom right.

  • Lynette   There are still eggs to hatch but some of the goslings have already jumped from the nest.  I can only believe that dad was waiting for them or maybe they joined a creche.

Here is the Youtube of them jumping.

  • Thanks Tiger for the youtube of gosling jumping from the nest.  That is a real leap of faith.

Off topic but do you have the link to the updates on Hamptom eaglets.  Can get the cam OK but not sure where to look for the updates.

QW Thanks for your post on the main blog about the sound – fingers crossed someone will give some kind of answer (but I’m not holding my breath) It’s been at least three weeks (at least) without sound.

Alan – I can just picture you manfully pegging out the washing -  you could teach us girls a thing or two  :)

Lynette – you are right. The compression hose I wear is much more restrictive than those given out after ops so you can imagine! But there at times I feel so rough it’s the only thing to do   :(

Margo – fingers crossed for your blood test and blood pressure check. After which, I am sure you could treat yourself to something really calorific with a cup of coffee or tea to make up for not getting your lie in. I still miss my puss cats so much (but need to keep strong about not getting another – vets bills/ food bills (and carrying all the extra weight home) – but I do envy you Billlie. She sounds such a sweet cat. Enjoy your folk music this evening. Not being in the least bit superstitious  Margo I wish you a rollicking good anniversary a week tomorrow :)

Lynette – super pic of Mrs Goshawk and her family – much better than mine. Thank you.

Tiger – you mean the Goslings would have survived ??????? Wonderful  !!  I thought they were flinging themselves onto a road.

OK, Annette – you were confusing two people. It’s Lynette’s OH with the horrid vascular wot not. I’m certainly thinking of him! Me – I’ve had phlebitis in the past and every so often, particularly in hot weather my cardiovascular system just doesn’t seem able to handle it. I certainly don’t have narrowing of the arteries I’m thankful to say and no  doubt all my hiking helps to keep my heart strong . It’s just a wretched nuisance that because the blood is not returned to my heart in the proper fashion I can no longer power walk up the hills like Sharon (hiking friend half my age) …….

[golly the Goshawk bobble heads are a real rowdy bunch – all two of them so far – I can hear their little squeaks and whistles – that’s what they sound like]

BUT: the important thing is , I can get up the hills and 14 miles does literally exhaust me  but it is still an achievement.

OK, now I must water all my tubs with phostrogen and then eat  . Later   ……

  • Cirrus. Yes I expect them to have survived. Apparently the dad was guarding the nest all the time of incubation so I suppose he is caring for them.

If you want to know more read here.

margobird   The thread on the eaglets is here

The updates are under the cam at links and resources. Apparently they are all doing fine.

  • Cirrus thanks for your good wishes.  I had a call from the doctor's sugery a while ago and they have cancelled my appointment and made a new one for Thursday next week so I will get an extra hour in bed tomorrow.  As I am up by 6.15 every day apart from the weekend, so enjpy staying there until 7.00.
