Afternoon all: Geez. May already? This happens every year!
Sitting in garden with laptop! Under umbrella in shorts and trying to ID a pale pink hybrid rose I didn't think I'd bought but which is now blooming like mad. I went out to buy orange/apricot/peach and yellow roses and have no idea how this pale pink one got into the mix. Also, it doesn't have a little metal label, which the others do, and I'm wondering if it didn't get into the wrong bin at La Sumida, where I bought six bare roots. In the meantime, Amber Flower Carpet and Julia Child roses are doing brilliantly... Met friends for breakfast this morning: Had a egg-white and seasonal veggie mix - won't make that mistake again! Very boring and challenging since nothing stayed on my fork. Was forced to rectify the situation with a cafe au lait and a boysenberry and lemon scone!
Diane: I have a visor and a sweathshirt with a hood that I wear on windy days at the whale count. That's it! Daughter has several cowboy hats, including one with a woven decorative band she made from hair taken from Cimarron's tail (the horse she had to put down Feb 10). I'll check out Trucker Steve next.
Alicat: Bet you had fun with Bobbie. Have you sorted your naughty OH yet? :-)
Wendy: Dolphin visit sounds like fun.
Sheila: Argh! Take care of that knee. Geez. A 1.5 hour wait for food? Did everyone complain loudly? Apparently, several of our channels repeated the wedding video throughout the day yesterday; I'm watching the recording a bit at a time; can't stand to be inside on a lovely day.
OG: More fab azaleas! Good news that son is trying the part-time option; hope it works out for him. Really understand "more money than sense," which also applies to grandson who, sad to say, doesn't have much money, so .....! Still, he's young yet and as always, we live in hopes. Little vole looks awfully sweet.
Hallo also to Lynette. It's past 4; can now officially start new Weekly Chat!
Cirrus I will see if I can get him cloned, he really is one of the best and I consider myself very lucky.

We want Billie to stay in at night by the time we reach winter. I would to think of her out in all the cold weather we had last winter. She has ants in her pants this morning, can't make up her mind as to whether she wants to come in or go out. She is back on our patio sunning herself at the moment.
Wendy – lovely smile from Daisy May!
Patricia – seems a strange thing to be wishing, but I hope you get the promised rain soon, to help damp-down the fires - I’ll be precise and wish for just enough rain and no more – don’t want you to get wet!
Sheila – hadn’t heard about the fires in the north of Scotland, but wasn’t surprised about Dava as Son mentioned seeing smoke from that direction on Sunday, and I guessed that was what it was. Daughter lived in Kinlochleven about ten years ago, and all the other places have their own individuality and beauty. Lancashire moorland peat fires were an annual event when we lived there.
Brenda – always good to read your posts, but I always seem to leave you out because you are so good at replying to us all and don’t often mention yourself – I hope all is well with you and your family.
Margo – enjoy all your holidays while you can – and if you can for a long time yet, which I hope for you - well, you will have more of them to enjoy!!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Afternoon all,
Gary : Thanks for the pics of Toffee and Clover.
WendyB: Nice close up pic of Daisy.
Patriciat : Terrible news that some of these fires were started deliberately. I hope that the rain materializes soon.
TerryM : Not sure when you go away but have a great holiday
Annette : Great to hear that the whale count is up. Must have been amazing seeing two of them breach.
Margo : It is nice that Billie is giving you so much pleasure now after all your efforts.
Linda : Your response re the Eagle ceremony was just perfect.
Everyone else thanks for the chat etc.
This morning we took Hamish to the vet and although the swelling has gone down in his paw the vet wants to lance it as she thinks there is a foreign body there and it will just flare up again. Could be a thorn or a grass seed. He is booked in for friday to have it done. Poor Hamish is always in the wars. Vet said we could get him groomed first so that is booked for tomorrow. We are off to Wales on the 14th so need to get all this out of the way asap so that Hamish and ourselves can enjoy the holiday.
Still sunny after a cold start but that nagging easterly wind is still there taking the edge off the temperature. The met office annonced that it was the driest April since records began in this region. Could do with some rain to fill the water butt which is now completely empty. Cant believe I am wishing for rain.
Everyone else thanks for the chat etc
Good afternoon Alan and poor Hamish is in the wars, best to get it sorted though in readiness for your holiday. It appears we all have these cold winds, supposed to ease down this afternoon but not done so yet. Agree we all need some rain now, apart from a couple of showers we have not had much since March. Hope we are not going to pay for this in what is supposed to be our summer.
Alan – oh dear! Poor Hamish, I hope whatever-it-is is easily apparent and soon out on Friday, so that he will be able to walk without discomfort, especially on his holiday.
Monring all: Quick look in (is there such a thing with all the news!) before I do the things I should've done instead of reading blog! :-)
Alan: Good that the vet realized something stuck into poor Hamish and hope it'll get sorted and all better before your vacation.
Margobird: What a lovely OH you have - can I borrow him for a year or two? :-) I'd like to go to Florence and Sorrento, etc.
Diane: Whale tagging is very dangerous - those things can kill you with a flip of their tail and not even realize it.
Back later; thanks all for posts. Take care and have a good day/evening. Hope you get some decent rain showers to help with gardens, fires (but not for whole summer of course).
Lesser spotted eagle in Latvia:
Hi folks. thanks for all your news and updates.
LG, LOtL, and Rutland all look as if they are contented sitting on the eggs. Still breezy though
Did the gym and swim this morning. Unfortunately OH could only manage a short workout as he is having vascular problems. Went to the docs this afternoon and as expected has to go and see the vascular consultant. He has claudication of the veins and it is quite bad. Already made an appointment so is going on 17th June - we will await the outcome.
Alan - Poor Hamish but at least the vet is on the ball and although these things get expensive hopefully something will be found and extracated from the paw and then it will heal up properly. Hope it all works out OK so you can go to Wales on the 14th.
Desparately need rain now as the trees and gardens will be looking like they should in July/August, all dull and not fresh looking like they should be doing now.
OG - forgot to mention about son - so pleased he enjoyed his preaching which should give him a real boost in confidence.
EJ has just got up to stretch and turn the eggs. Now settled again but don't think there has been a fish delivery today - no doubt someone will put me right.
