Afternoon all: Geez. May already? This happens every year!
Sitting in garden with laptop! Under umbrella in shorts and trying to ID a pale pink hybrid rose I didn't think I'd bought but which is now blooming like mad. I went out to buy orange/apricot/peach and yellow roses and have no idea how this pale pink one got into the mix. Also, it doesn't have a little metal label, which the others do, and I'm wondering if it didn't get into the wrong bin at La Sumida, where I bought six bare roots. In the meantime, Amber Flower Carpet and Julia Child roses are doing brilliantly... Met friends for breakfast this morning: Had a egg-white and seasonal veggie mix - won't make that mistake again! Very boring and challenging since nothing stayed on my fork. Was forced to rectify the situation with a cafe au lait and a boysenberry and lemon scone!
Diane: I have a visor and a sweathshirt with a hood that I wear on windy days at the whale count. That's it! Daughter has several cowboy hats, including one with a woven decorative band she made from hair taken from Cimarron's tail (the horse she had to put down Feb 10). I'll check out Trucker Steve next.
Alicat: Bet you had fun with Bobbie. Have you sorted your naughty OH yet? :-)
Wendy: Dolphin visit sounds like fun.
Sheila: Argh! Take care of that knee. Geez. A 1.5 hour wait for food? Did everyone complain loudly? Apparently, several of our channels repeated the wedding video throughout the day yesterday; I'm watching the recording a bit at a time; can't stand to be inside on a lovely day.
OG: More fab azaleas! Good news that son is trying the part-time option; hope it works out for him. Really understand "more money than sense," which also applies to grandson who, sad to say, doesn't have much money, so .....! Still, he's young yet and as always, we live in hopes. Little vole looks awfully sweet.
Hallo also to Lynette. It's past 4; can now officially start new Weekly Chat!
Cirrus - That was the Morgan to Whyalla pipeline, one of many from the River Murray. The pipes only go underground at roadways and farm entrances. I presume because it was cheaper to build and makes maintenance easier. South Australia is said to be the driest state in the driest continent. Whyalla needed water as it was a ship-building port (no longer, that’s progress!)
Oh dear, I think some of you missed the point of those "Friday Smile" names. The spelling may be strange but the pronunciation is usual.Jaxscyn is JacksonLa-a is LadashaCyndee is CindyKy-a is KydashaZaveyr is XavierJaijmz is James
Diane aka Tarzan (No we won't tell anyone LOL) - Cane toads have been a Queensland problem but they are gradually moving south, especially with the recent floods. http://www.news.com.au/cane-toads-hop-closer-to-south-australia/story-e6frea83-1225996412573?from=public_rss Introduced 1935 to control cane beetles - they didn’t. http://www.nt.gov.au/nreta/wildlife/animals/canetoads/index.html
AQ: Those cane toads are kind of creepy looking little fellas, aren't they? No wonder they're so invasive. They can survive everywhere, eat anything, live a long time, and breed like crazy! Hope they don't get to SA. I know the venom is extremely toxic. I've heard that cane toads and related species (including a toad in the U.S. Sonoran desert, Annette) are psychoactive and that people lick them in order to "get high". I don't know whether it works, because I've never once in my life been tempted to lick a toad -- especially a poisonous one. Thanks for the links. I'm going to watch the Science Channel program on Tuesday.
I'll "talk" to everyone on Monday. I'm going to work hard on several projects this weekend. Paper work, yard work, house work... Have a good weekend!
I have started seriously thinking about my trip. I travel light - a couple of shirts, thin jumper, 2 slacks (thick & thin), jacket & rain jacket. Minor calamity as I discover my favourite most comfortable travel jumper has developed moth holes. How dare they!!!! I’ve washed unwanted summer clothes to put away. Already done that once this year and summer returned. LOL. Yesterday I returned some library books and checked their "books for sale" trolley for light books for the plane to be discarded wherever. I found 2 small books of short stories by Henry Lawson (Aussie) and Katherine Mansfield (NZ). I thought the girl meant they were 50 cents each but no, I got the two for 50c.
Also been cleaning in anticipation of Mother's Day tomorrow. We usually visit m-i-l but on such days she has developed a habit of announcing she is not well - unconsciously I'm sure. But I want to be prepared if the tribe are coming here.
Evening all: Was gone most of the day doing various errands - things that have been on hold for some time. Am also shopping for a new handbag since the one I've been using for more years than I can remember is literally falling apart. Oh yes, Barbara Jean is back in circulation - she started today's Daily Update page.
Margobird: Glad you caught the pond problem before any fatalities; I'm sure you'll be checking it often for the next week or three. Sounds like you and OH are getting a lot of pleasure out of Billie Whizz. :-)
Lindybird: Good that Buzz is doing better - had to look hard to find him in the pix. Is Tatton Park a regular place to walk for you guys?
Alan: Poor Hamish! Hope all goes well in time for your vacation.
Lynette: I haven't been on the LOTL thread for some time, for the same reason as you. Plus, I've been really busy lately and not spending much time on the computer at all except for late in the evenings.
George: Good to see you; glad you've been able to take Diesel out, but when you've been ill every little thing just takes that much more energy. Good grief - that's a long time to wait to see a cardiologist; can you call up and tell them you're feeling off and need to see someone sooner?
bjane: Welcome to the thread and thanks for passing on the link to the Blackwater Refuge! Where in the States do you live? Hope your life gradually becomes less complicated so you can hang out here more - but do stop in to say Hallo when you get the chance. :-)
OG: Your day sounds like many of mine of late: It all starts off okay, but then the phone rings, or one errand turns into three, two of which get complicated, etc., etc., and all of a sudden it's time to cook dinner and then topple into bed. I saw Trucker Steve while he was parked in Ontario (east of downtown LA), but then I couldn't get his cam at all last night or first thing this morning when I snuck in hoping to see something of New Mexico. Just checked and still can't get it.
Diane: Have you had any problems getting Trucker Steve's site? We've got a mole making big messes in our front yard - pesky critter! - I bought an allegedly humane device that's supposed to "scare" them off, but I think most animals catch on to those things pretty quick. We'll see. How long ago did you do your Tarzan (or Jane?) act across the driveway? Sounds like great fun. I'll have to keep an eye out for odd toads when I drive to Arizona to see Delightful Delilah (going the weekend after this one). (Oh, just noticed you've signed off for the weekend.)
AQ: Have a nice Mother's Day Sunday - I'm going to Lake Cachuma with my daughter to take a wildlife cruise around the lake; may take a picnic - it's lovely there.
Sheila: Sounds like psychology is the study of the field in general and clinical is its practical application? Ah, I see OG has given a much more detailed and probably better response.
OK, must go to bed. Thanks ALL for news. Take care of yourselves.

Brenda – wonderful. You gave me a big smile as I mentally saw you swing from the vine. (Your secret is still safe with me)
Yes, AQ, so sorry for being dim – put it down to lack of proper sleep, sigh.
Well, despite rain I’m getting ready for my usual Sat hike so no time to chat properly, but good morning to you all – I wish you a very good day – see you later
Oh yes, Alan – I would have voted SNP too !!
Good Morning ALL. We had some rain overnight but no idea how much as I slept through it all. No rain since I awoke and seems to be drying up.
Diane, Fantastic ! I wouldn't have been able to resist swinging on that vine either. I thought you would have had a go, that is what made me remark on it. Cirrus, as you will have realised, it was Diane who was the dare devil, not me.
George, Sorry you are not 100%. I am sure if you rang your consultant / his secretary, directly, you would get an earlier appointment. There is no harm in trying. If not, your GP is able to contact the consultant.
AQ, Not long until your holiday. I know you have explained why you travel so light but I would find it very difficult. I find myself adding things, 'just in case' they are needed. Do enjoy your Mother's Day.
bjane, Always happy to hear from you when you are able. Glad to hear you enjoy reading our chat.
Annette, Your cruise sounds lovely. Don't forget to take your camera.
Thanks to you all for your news and chat.
Morning all,
George: Sorry that you are still feeling unwell. I hope you can get an earlier appointment with your cardiologist somehow.
Annette : Interesting that you are shopping for a new handbag as we have just done a stock check of LadyPs handbags and the latest count is 24. She says something about 'Radley' and 'Jimmy Choo'. I dont understand any of it.
Diane : Well done on your 'Tarzan' moment. Everyone needs one of them now and again.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat and pics etc.
Hamish has had a good night and ate all his breakfast. Not able to take him out yet today as it has been raining off and on. I expect he needs a rest after all the trauma of yesterday. However it is amazing how dogs bounce back from something like that unlike us humans. He is back at the vet on monday to get his dressing changed.
Dappled light and shade on the Lesser Spotted Eagle in Estonia:
Good morning to all and just a quick vist while OH is out shopping. Double good news this morning pond OK and we have had some heavy rain plus thunder and lightening both last night and first things this morning. OH is working tomorrow morning yet again as he has such a lot of work so will at least be able to have a look before Monday.
George so sorry you are still not feeling well. Perhaps your doctor could write to the hospital and get them to give you an earlier appointment. Pleased that you have been able to take Diesel for walks and have enjoyed the bird song which is a real treat at this time of the year. Do take care of yourself.
Annette have an enjoyable Mother's day and enjoy your outing. You are correct in saying that I will be watching the pond a lot for a while yet. Very jumpy about it at the moment.
Diane you made me smile with your swinging on the vine story. I can't resist having a go on the swings in the local park (as long as there is no one wlse around). Nothing wrong with indulging in a bit of childish play.
Cirrus hope you are able to get out on your hike and the rain holds off for you.
Lynette thanks for all your captures and I agree with you and Lindybird LOtL site is not the same. Most people post on Wildlife Village now but I do watch Lady and the Laird throughout the day.
Alan love your handbag quote. Pleased Hamish is back home with you and eating. Will be a bit of a worry for you I expect waiting for the results.
Hope you all have a good day and take care.
Margobird
It started out sunny here 1st thing, but then clouded over and now we have proper rain. As it also came down quite heavily in the night, we are hopeful that the poor garden will now get a drink at last.
Some replies:
george: Sorry you are still under the weather in spite of getting over your bout of being chesty. Sadly although I think the NHS is wonderful in most respects, there are some dreadfully long waiting lists. I had the same problem last year when I needed to discuss the results of some tests with a specialist, and ended up seeing my Doctor instead - she had the results on her computer, so there is something good to be said for the computer age after all, as I did not need to see the specialist at all in the end. Hope you can get sorted.
bjane: Welcome: it's nice to have someone new and especially from 'across the pond'. Do join in occasionally, when you can.
Sheila: That poppies pic sounds lovely - I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to resist it! As you say, we are not as vain when we get older- I didn't even have a mirror in the hall for some years, but then decided I'd better put one up as I often go out with my hair all in a bit of a mess!
Alan: Glad that Hamish is back on his food- they do seem to bounce back easily, as you say. I agree that the SNP will probably take better care of the Wildlife. Scotland must feel so isolated when they are treated as unimportant by the Big Bods in London.
AQ & Brenda: I can't travel light either! - I always have to add something or other to my luggage 'just in case' - sometimes this works out well, other times these things are not needed after all. My OH takes very little and seems to manage.....
Annette: Tatton Park is somewhere we like to go occasionally - there is a charge to take in the car, which is exhorbitant, so we often park in the nearby town and walk into the park, which is free. We are lucky and there are lots of local walks as Cheshire is very green and rural - we also have some 'posh' towns where all the wealthy footballers & some TV personalities live, so some of the shops and the properties are very expensive (not ours!).
OG: I did the dusting and the gardening together in my usual haphazard fashion- I start out full of gardening zeal, then come in to answer the phone or the call of nature, and end up wielding a duster! as I've seen something that desperately needs doing. Then I look out of the window at my trowel and clippers, and end up out in the garden again! Not very organised, but it all gets done in the end, somehow. I imagine that you are far more methodical as you always sound very organised. Well Done, your g. daughter - I hope she enjoys herself now she has made her choice.
Diane: Just love the idea of you being Tarzan! Good for you! What fun! Nice to hear you are kind to both kinds of bunnies, both Dust and Outdoors....
Well, I should be dusting now, and putting away some of the veggies I bought this morning, so will now backtrack, and then get some lunch...
