Afternoon all: Geez. May already? This happens every year!

Sitting in garden with laptop! Under umbrella in shorts and trying to ID a pale pink hybrid rose I didn't think I'd bought but which is now blooming like mad. I went out to buy orange/apricot/peach and yellow roses and have no idea how this pale pink one got into the mix. Also, it doesn't have a little metal label, which the others do, and I'm wondering if it didn't get into the wrong bin at La Sumida, where I bought six bare roots. In the meantime, Amber Flower Carpet and Julia Child roses are doing brilliantly...  Met friends for breakfast this morning: Had a egg-white and seasonal veggie mix - won't make that mistake again! Very boring and challenging since nothing stayed on my fork. Was forced to rectify the situation with a cafe au lait and a boysenberry and lemon scone!

Diane: I have a visor and a sweathshirt with a hood that I wear on windy days at the whale count. That's it! Daughter has several cowboy hats, including one with a woven decorative band she made from hair taken from Cimarron's tail (the horse she had to put down Feb 10). I'll check out Trucker Steve next.

Alicat: Bet you had fun with Bobbie. Have you sorted your naughty OH yet? :-)

Wendy: Dolphin visit sounds like fun.

Sheila: Argh! Take care of that knee. Geez. A 1.5 hour wait for food? Did everyone complain loudly?  Apparently, several of our channels repeated the wedding video throughout the day yesterday; I'm watching the recording a bit at a time; can't stand to be inside on a lovely day.

OG: More fab azaleas! Good news that son is trying the part-time option; hope it works out for him. Really understand "more money than sense," which also applies to grandson who, sad to say, doesn't have much money, so .....! Still, he's young yet and as always, we live in hopes. Little vole looks awfully sweet.

Hallo also to Lynette. It's past 4; can now officially start new Weekly Chat!

  • Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Thank you AQ – very attractive chapel I think – lovely stained glass window.

Nice looking Catholic church too– very clean and ‘’up together’’ looking.

I wonder why they didn’t put the water pipe lines under ground.

Golly, the Anglican church looks more Catholic, to me, than the Catholic church

Totally befuddled by the spelling of the children’s names AQ.

I know just what you mean about not looking at the blog first thing, Annette. The number of times I do and wish I’d left it a little later to help me get on with the chores

OK – must get my hair washed , later ……….

  • Morning All. Nothing planned for today so I will probably do some more pottering in the garden. Just waiting for the washing machine to finish and then hang the washing out as we are not forecast any rain until tonight.  OH is still on his morning walk.

OG, I have always enjoyed sport but realised yesterday how lazy I have been over the winter.
I hope your G-daughter achieves her first choice of University. Congratulations to her on achieving her Grade 5 keyboard results, in just three years.

Gary, Great to hear that TT is being a normal but a pest of a dog, but I think she may be over doing it by needing two baths/showers in one day.  It was times like that, that I would ask, ' Whose idea was it, to have a dog '.

AQ. Would love to see the church interiors but you obviously did not have time or they were locked up during the day to prevent damage, as most of our's are these days except for cathedrals.
Thanks for the Friday smiles. At the moment I can  guess at three of them besides the two you have told us, which I haven't heard of, but I am stumped on Jaxscyn.

Sorry Barbara Jean is having Mac problems. Hope there is somebody with a Mac who can help.

Linda, I hope the builder's noise doesn't go on too long. Hope you have plans to go out and get away from it all.

Back to the nest and then out to the garden.

  • Goodafternoon all and what a stressful start we had to the day.  OH went out to the pond to feed the fish this morning and found it just about empty with the poor fish gasping for breath.  We immediately got the hose going and refilled it and much to our amazement it seems at the moment qll the fish are OK.  We think one of our nieghbours cats knocked part of the water feature off blocking the waterfall and instead of water beig pumped back in to the pond it was going over the side.  All seems OK now but I am going aout every 15 mintues making sure the level is not going down.  We are sure it it was not Billie who is the culprit as although she drinks from the pond she does not go near that area.  Bless her she is curled up beside me at the moment probably wondering what all the panic was earlier.  Needless to say I did not get my treat of a lie in for an hour and I got up so fast I made myself feel a bit queer for a while.  We have a man that comes and checks our pond now and again and he is going to pop in this afternoon just to make sure there is nothing wrong with the pump box.

We enjoyed our gig at the folk club last night and arrived home at 10.30 and to be greeted by Billie so we stayed up until 12.00 so she could come in for a while.    She went out quite happily for her night on the tiles as she usually does.  Don't know if she will tonight as we are forecast some heavy rain and goodness knows we need it so she may decide to stay in. We saw Martha Tilston who is a wonderful singer and I had never heard of her but she has won many awards for her music in the folk industry.  She is the daughter of Maggie Boye and Irish folk singer and her father Steve Tilston is a well know composer and singer.  Would certainly go and see here again and now have to get some of her music downloaded on to my Ipod.

Brenda my word you are so energetic playing tennis.  Hope you don't feel to sore today.  Have you been watching the tenns on TV, Andy Murray was beaten last night, saw him lose the first set but had to go out but thought he didn't seem to be playing well at all.  Hope your computer comes back safe and sound on Monday.

Alan  been thinking of Hamish and hope he gets on OK at the vet and will be back home soon.  Thanks for the Dunedin update, must admit I have not looked at this for a while but good news that all 3 chicks healthy and ready to be ringed.  Lovely red kite video too, unfortunately we don't see them here in Dorset.

Lindybird  hope noise from your neighbour will ease down.  We have new people next to us and they have been making a bit of noise but obviously improving their home to the way they want it.  Laughed at your Marmite story.  That is the sort of thing my OH would do and not tell me because he would probably he thought i knew.  Have a good day although busy.

Annette glad you enjoyed breakfast with your daughter and you still sound so busy.  I never put PC on until I have done all the things I am supposed to otherwise housework would completely go out the window.

AQ thanks for the unusual names, can't say that any of them catch my eye.  Another interesting instalment of your trip and photos and 3 weeks before you set off again.  That seems to have come round quickly.

Gary it is amazing how dogs find the smelliest things to roll around in.  My sister has a Springer who just loves to roll in any kind of poo, foxes, deer etc when her OH takes him into the New Forest for his walks.  They actually shower him down with the hose before he comes back into the house but of course only dong it when the weather is suitable for outdoor showering.

original goldfinch how well your granddaughter has done in three years.  You must feel very proud of her.  Another thanks for all your photos, always enjoy logging in and seeing them.  So clear as well.  Sorry you found the atmosphere unpleasant at LOt and I also note that WendyB has been told th same.  Soemthing went very wrong up there.  Peter who had been there for many years left and from what i have gleaned from Wildlife Village it may not have been a very amicable parting.  I find their blogs so dull now compared to last year.

Lynette lovely capture of the Hampton eaglets.

Off to have a bit of lunch now and try and calm down after the bad start to the day.

    Margobird

  • Margo, What a morning ! Glad to hear that all the fish survived. A few weeks ago, my sister had the same problem, but her pond lining had sprung a leak overnight. She did find some baby carp though that she didn't know about. Hope you have been able to calm down now.

  • SheilaFE meant to say in my earlier post that I was saddened to read of the poisoning of a young golden eagle.  How can be people be so wicked and what can't they appreciate that the fact that they are so lucky to have these majestic birds in their midst.  I always look at the Scotland news on Teletext and saw this yesterday.  It just breaks my heart.

    Margobird

  • Thanks Brenda yes somewhat calmer now although I am in and out checking every 10 minutes, still good exercise for me.

    Margobird

  • Sorry to hear you had a drama, and missed your lay- in  margo.  At least the fish have survived  Sounds as if you enjoyed the concert last night.

Waiting to hear how Hamish has gone on at the vets today, hope that it won't affect Alan & Lady P's hols if he is still a bit poorly.  My Friend who has been so ill, has two dogs of the same breed as Hamish, and their older dog has been at the vets as he has a strained back -he is getting on a bit and they think he's pulled a muscle, poor thing.

Our Buzz is looking so much better now, just as fit and happy as he was before, so we are very thankful that it wasn't anything more serious. Here is a pic of him before the leaves came on the trees, at Tatton Park:

--- yes, he is there, on the left of the pic!  My OH striding out with a warm hat on, too.

  • Thanks Lindybird for the pic of Buzz and OH.  Must say it looked cold.  So pleased for you and OH that Buzz is much better and back to normal.

Hope your friend's dog will get some help at the Vet.  Another worry for her at a very stressful time.

Alan  has recently posted on another blog and I expect Hamish is still at the vet recovering after his op on that very sore foot.  Hope he will be OK for their holiday.

    Margobird

  • Afternoon all,

Thanks for all the earlier chat and pics.

I took Hamish to the vets at 9.00am this morning. He went in quite happily. The vet phoned about half an hour ago and said that they had not found any foreign body in his foot but there was a lot of excess tissue. He has had problems with lumps being removed before. She has taken biopsies from the top and underneath his paw to be sent off for analysis and also a needle biopsy from a lymph node which was swollen so we will have to wait for the results to find out if it is anything sinister. It is strange that the penicillin did reduce the swelling but the vet said it was probably a secondary infection and not connected to the excess tissue. He has two lots of stitches in his foot so will be on antibiotics and painkillers. They will phone me later when he is ready to be collected.

Lovely sunny day here. Temp is 20c but a bit humid.

  • Alan thanks for the update on Hamish.  Poor thing with two lots of stitches to contend with now.  Really hoping nothing sinister is found  and hope you don't have to wait too long for the results. Give him a hug from me.
