Happy Easter to all

Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .
Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.

I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.

Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural?
Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.

OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet?
OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL

  • Thank you Diane. Just home from the Cheesecake Shop. http://www.cheesecake.com.au/menu/introduction  Ooooh! Decisions. Decisions. Finally settled on a small Bienstich (bee sting cake).

  • Evening all: Got blown off Coal Oil Point about 15 minutes after I got there today - it was wild out there; everyone had spotted a calf/cow pair right before I arrived, but with all the chop and swells, the whales would've had to have run up the beach and waved at us to be seen.   Sorry so many people are having trouble with the site. Seems very odd - I had problems over the weekend, but all okay right now.

Diane: Was listening to NPR today and they had a report from Indiana on the flooding and said - horrors - that some areas are expecting 9" inches in the next day or three? Will have to check out the "God Particle" when I'm awake and can appreciate it (providing, of course, I can understand it).

Cirrus: Did you come down to earth yet? :-)

Lindybird: Like the panda pix but oh dear - those dogs look like they're made of styrofoam.

Heather: That's funny, I did chicken with tarragon cream sauce for dinner tonight! Sounds like a lovely trip and great family time. Hurray!

OG: Do like your Coos (cows?). They look a bit befuddled with all that hair in their eyes! :-)

dibnlib: Enjoy all that lovely dental work - you'll have to smile a lot to show it off. Good luck with the LG trip.

Alan: I'm sure your g'daughter enjoyed the outing to see the animals.

    dibnlib: Happy Anniversary!

Lynette: A week in France sounds very nice - my sister and her OH used to pop over the channel quite a bit.

AQ: Happy Birthday! I looked fo the Bee Sting Cake on that link, but missed it (so what was in it?). :-)

Gosh, it's only 9 pm. and I'm already tired.....off to check nest for a bit then probably head for the sack.

  • Hello all and very happy Birthday AQ!

Thanks for all chat, “smiles”, pics etc. I’ve been off duty for a couple days and totally enjoyed my free time - really recharged my batteries. Weather has been very agreeable too, we actually have a heat wave here - it’s been around 20C for a couple of days now. I went to Pohtiolampi Saturday, Sunday and yesterday LOL just couldn’t resist a chance to see ospreys live after the loooong winter. Was very lucky especially Saturday - I saw ten ospreys and even a one more on my way back home. And we got an Easter Egg on Sat too (the nest near me)

I think I told earlier ‘bout Eagle Owls nesting in middle of Helsinki and now the owlets are learning to fly. One of them landed on the street the other day and didn’t know how to get back to the nest. Well, a female shopping center guard just grabbed it and then a (licensed)ringer ringed it and took it back to the nest. In this link the actual article is in Finnish, so no use for you guys, but there are some stunning pics - just click the pic on top the story http://www.hs.fi/kotimaa/artikkeli/Vartija+pelasti+katolta+pudonneen+huuhkajan+syliins%C3%A4+katso+kuvat/1135265630604

Have a nice week all and take care

  • have a great birthday AQ   :)

I never come down to earth where physics is concerned Annette  :)   (assume that's what you meant - the universe is 13. 7 billion years old - fancy someone being able to calculate that !!  )

Auntie - oh, hip hip hooray   .... a super pic - such quality !! The first precious egg. Congrats Mrs O (I predict a boy)

Oh yes, and   dibnlib - a very happy anniversary

  • Happy Birthday AQ!

  • Diane That is very interesting. I have actually met and chatted to  Peter Higgs. I cannot even put my finger on when it was though. It was ceratinly over 30  years ago in most likely in  the James Clerk Maxwell building at some party or other at Edinburgh University.

He will almost certainly the only person I have ever met that has a particle named after him. Not sure that the "God Particle" had been postulated way back then.

  • Hi All, boy have I been having problems with this site over the weekend. Was amazed when it opened up no trouble this morning.

Hope you all had a lovely Easter :)

Thanks for the links Diane, will have a proper read later!

  • Morning, Everyone:   What a lot to read - 'God Particles', holidays, Osprey eggs, and All!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AQ!!

  • Hope you are having a great birthday AQ.

  • Good morning everyone.  Glad to hear that you all had a wonderful Easter holiday, enjoying the company of friends and family and in the main under blue skies and sunshine.  Today it is chilly, NE wind and grey overcast skies.

First, Happy Anniversary Dibnlib, and Happy Birthday AQ.  I hope you both have wonderful days.  Lovely Fritilleria Lindy.

dibnlib I expect you are relieved that your dental work is now over!  Just the bill to sort out :)  Your Weddning Day plans sound excellent to me.  I expect I will be sharing a bottle with me!!  OH is not at all interested.  I watched the Di and Charles wedding from Dawn till dusk, both at home and later with friends, and in the evening the local community had a barbeque evening - it was a new estate with blocks of maisonettes full of young folk, singles and couples, so it was quite a lively evening!!  I am looking forward to hearing about your caper watch tomorrow.  I had three night shift duties so might have expected to see them, but sadly I didn't.  But neither did I join them in the Centre when perhaps I might have!  I was on duty, so felt I couldn't leave the forward hide, but there were two of us, so I ought to have done!  My fault.  Enjoy the dawn.

TerryM I also enjoy Lewis, but have it recorded, waiting for a rainy day and ironing to deal with!

Alan how lovely to have a daughter at Rosemarkie.  No excuse now to see the dolphin and Red Kite (although no doubt they are quite common around you anyway), and of course to pop down the road to LG!!

Gary and Wendy many thanks for mentioning the gathering in August.  I would really love to come, but given that we are already having 2 weeks in May, and I hope to visit LG on 25 and 26 May, and perhaps even briefly on 27 May, I don't really think we will be heading 525 miles north again this year.  But if circumstances change I will let you know.

Heather floating gently and usually quietly on water is so relaxing and I am glad you had such a wonderful time with your family.  Many years ago now I had two such holidays, but not on narrow boats.  They were wooden boats with character, rather than the flat, wide plastic versions you often see.  We had a week on the Broads and two weeks on the Thames to Oxford and back.

OG what a lovely holiday blog you have written, and what super photos too!  Nice that the lambs are black!

Auntie It sounds as though you had a lovely osprey-full weekend too.  Imagine seeing 10 on your journey home!  This is the English version of Auntie's tale of the Eagle Owl chick http://www.hs.fi/english/article/First+flight+of+urban+eagle+owl+chick+ends+up+embarrassingly+in+rescue+by+firemen/1135265576249

You have probably read the main blog from Abbi, which appeared yesterday late afternoon.  Paul, who was at Centre last year (Gyr Falcon) posted a link to a short film on Loch Garten:  http://www.rspb.org.uk/film/8613592.aspx

Now, I don't know why one link is live, and the other you have to copy and paste.  Sorry.

Am off out soon, but will be catching up later.  Have a good day.
