Happy Easter to all

Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .
Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.

I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.

Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural?
Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.

OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet?
OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL

  • Happy birthday Joan.

AQ, sounds a lovely meal. Congrats to the OH as well. That was a well rehearsed "maneuver" on his part:)

    Enjoy the wedding

  • Evening all: Thanks all for some really lovely photos today.  Read and enjoyed all the posts too, but won't stick around tonight. Woke up with wonderful early-summer cold this morning. Had sore throat last night so gargled with trusty warm salt water (must do that again now) and it's better this evening, but now my nose is on the run. We've got very blustery and very dry winds through Saturday night that are blowing all kinds of pollen around in addition to drying out sinuses, eyes, etc. (don't know how you can have a runny, dry nose, but you can!)  Tried to rest today but they're working on the lot across the road (downwind from us) and they've stirred up all kinds of seeds, weeds, etc., not to mention dust. They brought in a huge earthmover two days ago that - from what we and the neighbors can make out - dug 4' trenches all around the lot, creating huge piles of dirt that the machine then climbed up before shoveling the dirt back in the trenches, then repeating the performance again and again.  Some of us wandered over this evening to speculate on the purpose of all that;  lots of scratching of heads but no conclusions.....    In addition, they brought in a small but noisy bulldozer that spent all day pushing smaller piles of dirt  forwards and backwards, emitting loud and insistent beeps while in reverse.  Not a recipe for a good rest but - oh my - after watching what those folks down South have been through, I have no cause to complain! (So yes, why did I just spend an entire paragraph complaining.)

Anyway, will crash early tonight. If I can't sleep, I'll be up at the crack of dawn to watch The Wedding folderol.  :-)  Take care.

  • Hi, all. Just wanted to wish everyone a great Friday!

I'll catch up with everyone tomorrow. Really tired. Very late last night the tornado sirens went off; the big storm from down south dealt Indiana a glancing blow. I had 60-mile-per-hour winds here, and a small tree limb blew into my garage door. The creek flooded the back of the garden. I was lucky; the damage was minimal for me. I'm just grateful that my car and house are okay. The death toll down south is now nearly 300. My heart goes out to all the victims.

Hope everyone who is watching enjoys the big wedding. Thanks for posts and pics.

Edit: Hey, Annette. Our posts crossed. I hope you feel better. Sounds awful. Hope you can get some good rest.

  • First of all:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOAN !!

    - here is a bracing beach for you to walk down, today (Formby Beach in Lancashire)

Annette: So sorry you are suffering - hope it is short lived.  Be kind to yourself, and don't try and do too much.

Diane:   I was so worried about you last night - sorry that the floods have reached you, but hope there is minimal damage - keep safe.  There were a lot of dramatic pictures of the terrible damage these storms have inflicted, on our TV News last night. It is a truly awful thing.  My heart goes out to those who have lost their homes, and even worse, their lives.

On a lighter note, there is Wedding Fever here, with every channel and every reporter covering every possible aspect of the Royal Day. I have hung my big Union Jack in our front window, and our neighbour has a small flagpole with one, too.  I expect we will have the TV on all day., and then get Wedding Overload later.

Everyone, Enjoy your day whatever you are doing...

  • SHEILAFE  Meant to say that we came accross a Hare on the way to LG the other morning. think it was a young one as he seemed a little confused which way to run for safety. Lovely sight.

GARY We are lucky here in Scotland as the majority of B & Bs and hotels seem to take well behaved dogs and even when we had 2 Goldies we didn't have a problem.

Enjoyable evening with friends yesterday and were invited to a house party today for wedding celebrations, but have decided just to do our own thing as previously planned.

  • AQ  Just reading about your meal made my mouth water. think we will be going to Rocpol for our belated celebrations on Monday.

  • Morning everyone. Hope you all have a great Friday.

Diane - so pleased to hear you got away with minimal damage. Those storms sound horrific. So sorry to hear of all those fatalities.

Hope you have a lovely day Joan and sorry I haven't managed to keep up with everyone's birthdays.

Much cooler here today. Rain is forecast but none so far. Not sure if I will watch the Royal Wedding, I might just have a peep...but then again, I might not :)

Lovely pics of the Grebes Lynette. Reminds me of the series of  pics I took of the Grebe dance a few years ago. Brilliant to watch.

This site is like lightning today. What a relief! Hope it lasts!

  • DIANE  your bad weather seems never ending. Thinking of you and keep safe.
