Happy Easter to all

Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .
Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.

I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.

Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural?
Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.

OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet?
OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL

  • Not sure what is happening here at the moment. Things are posting blue and on top of each other so just in case I am going to post same again.

LYNETTE  Really pleased that you liked the blossom and have saved to use as background. that is what we have at the moment. To follow is a pic of the flowers OH got me for our anniversary. To the left is one of my favourite ornaments (he does actually have 2 eyes. I have called him Dumbledore (ok I know it is childish but he is so gorgeous that he deserves a name) I would like to have called Dillon, Dumbledore but even I could see that wasn't entirely sensible!!!!!

  • I've just witnessed a rather extraordinary bit of action between a collared dove and a magpie - and the dove won!  Dove had been sitting in the tree with the feeders, but not on any, when magpie flew in to land.  Dove didn't like that idea and chased it to the ground.  They sort of had a go at each other but the magpie gave up and flew off, and the dove returned to the tree.  I wonder if it has a nest nearby, there were two birds around earlier.

Talking about birds, jsb, is there any news on occupants of your nesting box?  Have the blue tits taken up residence?  (It was blue tits, wasn't it?)

  • Oh, I've just posted, and its not arrived.  Now what did I say.  Oh yes, I have just witnessed a curious incident between a collared dove and a magpie, and the dove won.  Said collared dove was sitting on the variegated acer where I hang my feeders. when a magpie flew in and attempted to land.  CDove was having none of it and chased it back to the ground where they had an argument and the magpie flew off!  I wonder if we have a nest near-by.  I have seen a pair of Cdoves around.

Two goldfinch on the feeders are present, a chaffinch and a collared dove!  Mr Pheasant with three of his ladies have recently visited the ground feeder along with our regular pair of red-legged partridge, the male of which was looking a bit worse for wear this morning.  Quite a few neck feathers appeared to be missing.  I'm not sure whether that would be thru defending his lady, his territory or whether a lucky escape from a fox.

Good luck Hamish for your visit to the vet.  Hope all goes well.

Edit:  Sorry, the page has gone all funny.  So my piece did arrive, but before earlier postings.  Odd.

  • The reason this goes astray is when some HTML gets copied into a post. If that post was edited as soon as it begins then this problem may be averted.

AQ poor little Jasper but pleased to see he is a lot better now.

ALICAT  noticed you have not been posting, are you OK.  Please let us know as we do miss people when they do not post.

Evening margobird yes im fine just been busy and with easter just not posted plus i wasn't in a happy mood on sunday as OH went behind my back and changed our holiday date from the 18th june to 25th june due to a biker do on the 17th that lasts for three days,it also clashes with our anniversary which is on the 17th so im not happy as i won't be going as i am looking after the cat and bobbie so will doing the anniversary on my own then found out my parents who i get to look after things when were away can't do the week of the 25th so i then had to ring the holiday lady up and explain that OH went behind my back and didn't ask my parents if the could do that week so i have now moved it to the 4th june which parents can do

  • Hi everyone.

Many thanks for all the updates, links and pics.  It's hard to put into word how gutted I feel with regards to the female eagle at Hampton, Virginia.  A seriously numbing story.  I hope those lovely eaglets grow into mighty and majestic raptors, just like their mother was.

Weather news now.  Don't panic!!!  All I can say is it was considerably oven like in this neck of the woods today.  That's an oven with a very bright light ;-)

AQ:  Glad you had a nice bithday :-)

Alan:  We walked from the main carpark at Falls of Clyde.  Next to the SWT visitor centre, and the Heritage village museum.  I remember going to the musem as a child.  It's roughly 35-40 minutes walk to the Peregrine site, and great on a nice sunny day like Sunday was.  Hope Hamish's paw gets better soon.

Margo:  Had a lovely time at the Falls of Clyde.  Those Peregrines are just magical :-)

    Happy Wednesday :-)

    Paul.

  • Did stuff as planned today - plus another garden centre!  Got home 6pm - usual dinner time but we weren't hungry, so planted some new plants - from today and the holiday.  By the way, hollyhock is deep pink as will go near blue clematis as contrast.  Then watered them in and watered plants in greenhouse etc.  Came in for dinner at 8 and as we were finishing, Son phoneed.  Not happy - wil say more later.

Have decided not to stress about posting rest of holiday detail - mostly Ospreys anyway (about 200 photos) so will add a few here and there when I can.  Basically, you already know we saw Wendy on the Monday then up to LG, went to Logie Steading on the Tuesday, then on to Spey Bay, and came home via LotL on Day8 !

I hope nobody had asked me any questions today - I really don't feel like reading through the whole day now!   Must get to bed.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Tiger, that could have been me then.  Copied from the official comments on the Norfolk page about the eaglets.

It looks like they are going to a Wildlife Centre to be reared. At least they will be safe there.

    Thanks for your updates etc.

Went to choir practice except it was in the form of a birthday/coming back from Aussie party for one of our members.  2 glasses of red, savouries, trifle and b'day cake. Yum.
