Happy Easter to all

Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .
Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.

I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.

Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural?
Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.

OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet?
OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL

  • Good afternoon dibnlib and my word you sound as though you had a wonderful morning even if you were up at the crack of sparrows (loved that).  Thanks so much for saying that I did have a bit of a problem with walking and that it will be taken into account.  Can't wait to go now and poor EJ covered in frost, I knew it was going to be cold at LG when I watched the weather forecast last evening.  I am really looing forward to taking in all the wonderful scenery when  visit and I would guess I will want to do it all again next year.  I can quite understand "you can't see the view for the mountains".  I am very grateful to you and others who have been putting my mind at rest.  David used to do the blog sometimes last year if I remember correctly.

Good afternoon Sheila FE and thanks so much for those links, really gives me a good idea now.  I don't often look at the main blog, just go when LG put a post up and to acknowledge and thank them.  A lot of bickering last time I read through all the posts.  Must admit I am getting slightly nervous now as my trip up gets ever closer, will probably be a complete bag of nerves by the time I get there.  Nevertheless I am so looking forward to it.

Really Margo there is no need to be nervous.  I am the last one to say that I have to say, as I rarely do anything on my own, but even I managed to get there and enjoy it, although I did meet up with a young friend of mine an we were on duty together!!  Everyone is very friendly and helpful.  I was there when the eggs were being incubated, so no exciting things like chicks to watch!

I rarely check the main blog, but noticed Gyr Falcon/Paul merely because he was working at LG last season.  He is doing a great job at singing the praises of LG even from Iceland!!  Is anyone planning a summer holiday in Iceland?  You should look him up!!

OG/DjoanS : Hamish foot has improved and is no longer limping but I may take him to the vet to get it checked as he is still licking it. I will see how he is tomorrow.

Really bad news about the Hampton female eagle being killed by an aeroplane. They are having a meeting to discuss what to do about the  eaglets.

Alan - read about that on the main blog last night. Couldn't get on for love nor money last night kept saying server error.   It really is sad but on their blog they said they would be monitoring the situation and see if dad takes over mums duties. We will have to wait and see.

Will catch up with news later but a few pics from last night which I couldn't post . The Golden EaglesThree semi-orphans?

  • Just been skimming through all your posts.  Too many to answer all but thanks for news etc.

OG - that really is encouraging for your son, hope all goes well on Sunday for him and things look good for work too.

Dibnib - glad you managed to get to the caper event - I bet it was lovely driving to LG with the sun coming up and mist on the water. Poor EJ though, covered in frost.

Tiger - was it you who said the Hampton eaglets had been fed - thats great news, plus the news that an bald eagle has produced 4 chicks - will they all survive??

I assume its not my laptop but there still seems to be no sound at LG?

  • Diane - do hope you don't get flooded out. Was listening to the 1pm news here and it said there had been a spate of twisters in the mid and southern counties of the States. Also heavy rain which is obviously affecting your county.

Brenda - do hope computer is fixed soon. It shouldn't go that quickly if its under warranty I'd have thought.

Alan - Do hope they manage to get to the bottom of what is wrong with Hamish's paw, hope he feels better soon.

Dibnib - just love that pic of your crabapple blossom - have copied to my favourites for a background, hope you don't mind.

  • 10:56 Norfolk Botanical Garden: All eaglets on the ground Wednesday April 27, 2011 10:56 Norfolk Botanical Garden 10:58 Norfolk Botanical Garden: They have placed them in carriers and an DGIF Conservation Officer will transport them to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro, VA (misspelled it earlier)

This is posted on the Norfolk Eagles comments.  It looks like they have taken them to the wildlife centre for rearing.  Its good that they have decided not to leave them alone or for dad to rear them. At least they will be safe.

  • This was posted further down on the blog

11:01 Norfolk Botanical Garden: This morning the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will be removing the 3 eaglets and send them to the Wildlife Center of Virginia.

DGIF consultanted with the partners and many experts about this situation. They received feedback about a variety of approaches and arrived at the decision to remove them. Wednesday April 27, 2011 11:01 Norfolk Botanical Garden

11:02 Norfolk Botanical Garden: One option discussed was to leave them and see if the father could continue to raise them alone. It is possible he could, but it is also very possible he could not continue to provide enough food as they grow and need a higher calorie count. There was a concern it would reach a point of no return and it would be difficult to remove the eaglets. It would present the problem of being too late to remove them for their survival. There is a reason it takes two parents to raise the eaglets.

Don't know what happened to the earlier post, maybe it will right itself.

  • LYNETTE   Really pleased you have copied the pic of the blossom for a background. that is what we have at the mo. To follow is a pic of the flowers OH bought me for our anniversary. The one eyed dog to the left (he does have 2 eyes really) is one of my favourite ornaments and I have called him Dumbledore (OK I know it is childish but he is so gorgeous that he deserves a name). I would love to have called Dillon, Dumbledore but even I could see the impracticalities of that!!!!!

  • Not sure what is happening. I tried to copy and post info from Norfolk re the eaglets and its all gone a bit funny. Hope it sorts itself out.

  • Dibnib the flowers are gorgeous and so is the dog.  Dumbledore suits him.

Site has gone crazy on the postings.

Only copied from Norfolk so not sure what is going on.
