Evening all: Been out most of the day; just sat down - phew.  Off to check other threads; back in a bit!

  • Morning Tiger.  That was an interesting link on LG in 2005.  One thing I did notice was that there was snow covering the nest, with a single egg in it, on 16 April!!  Let's hope that precipitation stays away in 2011.  You also put a link on the main blog to the artificial nest at the Lochter Fishery (Aberdeenshire).  I checked out the newspaper item and also the fishery which appears to have a huge corporate business - but no link to anything to do with ospreys or indeed the fish farm's location!  However, another Google brought up this excellent news on that particular osprey site:  Two ospreys on the artificial nest site at Lochter this morning.   One sitting on the webcam!    http://www.wildlifeweb.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=736&PID=1800

  • Alicat thanks for the news on the black bears.

In checking out the Lochter news item and various links, I came across (sorry, I know you won't have time!!) yet another web cam in Montana:  http://www.birdforum.net/blog.php?b=4358  At the moment I only get a blank screen, but perhaps that is the time difference.  http://montanaospreycam.com/

Apparently last year a pair of Canada Geese took up residence before the osprey returned, but I do not know the outcome!  Sounds reminiscent of Rutland this year and the Egyptian Geese!

  • Shelia   That Montana webcam is really good one. Only problem is that it  has a Canada goose sitting on eggs. I thought I posted a link a few days ago. There is a guy from Montana on Bird Forum and I think he is local to the nest.

This is the tool you need when looking at cams around the world. See  day/night map.

As you can see it is dark in Montana now.

  • Annette what an interesting site your whale watch is.  I hope Mike approves the use of the word 'squirt' for the young calves!!!  It's not only interesting to hear of your grey whales (your main project?) but that 2000 dolphins were seen.  Amazing.  What a sight that must have been.  I have been privileged to see the dophins at Chanory Point on the Moray Firth, and that is enough to make the hairs on my neck tingle!  There was reference to no otters being around.  I guess these otters are the sea otter, the much large version of our European species, but why is there none around this year?  Are they migratory and may chose one year not to come to your shores, or has something more sinister happened to them?

  • Tiger  thanks very much for the daylight map.  You really do give us so much useful information and as I said before I am very grateful.

  • That's a neat link Tiger, thank you!  I probably passed over your reference to it when you posted it at the time.  You know what it is....  So many links on this forum that I can hardly keep up when I know I ought to be doing the usual things like gardening (much more interesting than housework/ironing), but somehow find myself plonked in front of the lap top - which is probably why I suffer from back, leg problems - lack of exercise!!  I know there are a lot of you out there who check out all the sites, so I thought I'd mention it!

The big screen at Lochter Tea Room looks impressive too, if you happen to be passing!!  Their web site was pretty poor I thought.  I couldn't even find a 'where to find us' or 'map' link which would help we thick southerners!

  • Good Morning All. Still not feeling very energetic. I started coughing during Wednesday night and Thursday. Cough is not as bad now but just feel so tired and my ribs hurt from the coughing, but no other symptoms. I guess I have a much milder case of what a few of you had earlier in the year.

George, Lovely to hear from you but not good to hear that you are still suffering from your cough and cold. Take care.

Linda, Sorry, I missed wishing you a Happy Anniversary.

Sheila, So sorry you are in such pain. I hope the treatment works.

Diane, You really do seem to have an awful lot of thunderstorms. I don't think Margo would enjoy living near you with all the storms.

Lynette, I am sure your Mum, before her illness, would be so happy to see that you are able to enjoy your inheritance. Must have been such fun to do all that shopping.

Annette, I was enjoying your whale report until you mentioned the 20 orcas. To see 2000 dolphins must have been a brilliant sight. I wonder how many of the whales and their young survive after you have counted them.

Tiger, I used to read all the warden reports. Never thought then, that I would be reminded of them in 2011. Thanks for the Red 8T picture.

AQ, Enjoy your break  and so glad you can now see the end results of all your decorating work.

Alicat, Thanks for the Jason'e update.

I really must stop here as yet more posts arrive as I am typing and I have also taken two phone calls.

  • Good morning all a bit dull here but sun is trying to come out and it does feel slightly warmer than of late.

At 10.15 last night OH and I were out ine garden doing more bonding with Billy.  Once again he ventured into the front room but is still uncertain and went out again.  He shows interest everytime now whenever our conservatory door is open.  We are not going rush him though as we don't want to undo everything we have achieved with him.

Lindybird  sorry to hear your friend is still very sore and hope this will ease over the coming days.  Good to hear Buzz is taking his medicine and enjoying the treats that he gets with it.  Hope the shop is not too stressful, I am so lucky with OH doing it all for me. I still haven't sen the CP programme but will catch up with it over the weekend hopefully.

Trish 2 hope you enjoyed your meal and headache now gone completely.

AQ shocked to read of further earthquakes, it must be like living on a knife edge.  Hope no damage was done this time.  Do enjoy your weekend away.

Sheila FE was very sad about Mercedes but sounds as though it was for the best as she was showing signs of senility.  Wonder if all the years in captivity have anything to do with that.

ALICAT thanks for the Jason update.  See they are going to have him mounted to provide education about black bears.  How is Bobbie doing?

Annette  pleased you a whale and her calf, how thrilling but not good news about the Orcas in close proximity.  Hopefully they will move on.

Lynette I had pre-ordered Helen Armitage book from LOtL and wondered whether I would  hear anything abouet it after the changes.  They did ring me last week for my details and said it would be going out soon.  Not received it yet but think it will turn up probably at the beginning of next week.

Diane more storms for you, hope they are not too bad and do not cause you or others any problems.

WendyB thanks for telling me that I would get all the help I needed.  Sheila FE  has also told me the same so not worrying so much about it now.  One of those times when you wish you had eternal youth.

    Have a good weekend all.

    Margobird

  • Margo, I love your phrase, "one of those  times when you wish you had eternal youth".
That is real progress with Billy. You are definitely doing everything right and with such care and patience.

  • Good morning BrendaH  sorry you are still feeling unwell.  It does sound like the same virus that several of us as have hade.  Tiredness and the cough which is pretty uncontrollable.  In the end you get so sore you are afraid to cough.  Take it easy and hope you will be fully recovered soon.

You are quite right about being where Diane is with all the storms she gets.  It always sounds so nice but don't think I would want to live there,  I would be in a cupboard where I couldn't see or hear it permanently.
