Evening all: Been out most of the day; just sat down - phew. Off to check other threads; back in a bit!
Lindy: I'm so sorry that you've had such a rough day. Sounds like the funeral service was very beautiful. Your poor, poor husband! A stitch left in his eye since 2009?!? Oh, my stars! I hope he's now much more comfortable. Are you going to file a lawsuit? My very best wishes to Buzz. I hope the vet appointment goes well. Good thoughts to you all!!!
Loved those Monday Smiles. Oh, I hope that guy gave that skinny little dog a big steak. LOL
Thanks to Brenda, AQ, Lindy and everyone for your kind support. I'm not in dire straits right now financially. I just hate indecision!!! I'm a very decisive, "take the bull by the horns" kind of person, and I just hate it when I'm not sure what to do about a situation. I do know that I'm not leaving this house. :-)
OG: Storms weren't too bad here. Tornadoes throughout the midsection of the country, though. Very dreich, drab and dismal here today, too.
AQ: I so enjoyed the latest installment of the Riverland trip. I loved that black stump!!! So elegant and beautiful! I have a black stump (not quite that big) in my garden. It's huge, and I don't know what to do with it. At some point decades ago, one of my ancesters put a little metal fence around the tree. As the tree grew, it absorbed the fence. After the tree fell (during a flood of my creek), I had the limbs cut up and removed from the property, but the guys couldn't cut up the stump because they kept hitting metal (and metal fence is awful for a chain saw). I could burn it, but now I think there's a raccoon living under it. So I guess it's a permanent garden decoration now. LOLOL I was familiar with the black stump expression. In fact, I think I live back of the black stump. LOLOL
Moles are a pain up here and my farmer hates them so around now he is setting his traps. They don't like the soil from them in the silage I gather it makes it cook to quickly. He also has the best trousers in the world but there again not as I am sure in this day and age moleskin trousers are man made....or is that farmer made
Huge hailstones when we were having dinner....glorious sunshine now.
Love the Monday smiles....love the bug!!
LINDY your poor OH. The thought of having a stitch left in his eye makes me shudder. Hopefully he will be feeling so much better in a couple of days.
Day turned out sunny after my pre-lunch post, but evening is going cold. OH is on phone trying to finalise arrangements for Fri/Sat with Dau#2 – why do we all lead such complicated lives?! Did all the intended tasks today, and even made Easter cards as I realised when we get back will be too late!
AQ – unusual for you to appear in your evening! Enjoyed the photos again – and reading about the Black Stump (hadn’t heard of it). Loved the river scenes and birds too.
Alicat – pleased the foot is less painful. Take care!
Lindy – thanks for smiles – baby watching fly was my favourite! Sounds like “Stella”’s country churchyard funeral was the best it could be for a sad occasion. Sorry about OH’s eye and Buzz’s troubles – not a good day for you. Reading about the eye made my eyes run – I find eyes very difficult.
Dibnlib – I must admit to taking antihistamines for runny eyes with colds too! Pleased you saw Wendy – we are meeting her for coffee next Monday. We don’t set off until this Wednesday morning. Unusual to get bones left in Salmon, but know how you felt about it.
Now Son has just phoned for details for Sat/Sun and I told him we’ll have to phone back when we know ourselves! As you might guess, I am multi-tasking here - feel like my brain is doing somersaults!
Wendy – get that good weather back for me, please! Are there often dead Salmon beside the river?
Diane – that Eastern Mole website doesn’t mention biting people – are you sure their jaws open wide enough for a human leg?
Lynette – I hope all was well with your OH’s scan today.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
O>G> Trust me I am on the case about the weather and looking at BBC it is more promising for the rest of the week.
We get enormous dead salmon from December onwards as Daisy May was here in February, They are the ones who have spawned and after that it is down hill. I like it as it is the ones that missed the fishermen and came back to do what they were destined for.
Safe journey and look forward to meeting you and OH next week.
Hi folks, first chance I've had to come on here today. Couldn't get on this afternoon, showing time out error etc. Tried a bit earlier but got the same message so have managed to get on via a back way.
Anyhow, here I am. Thanks for your messages re OH. He went for his scan , 8.35am - arrived early, was seen and out before his alloted time and was home for 9a.m. His results will go to the consultant and he will be sent for again when they come through. Pretty sure its nothing to worry about.
Lindybird - thanks for the Monday smiles.
Spent most of the day trying to install my new printer etc but the usb lead I bought with it wasn't recognised. Tried several times but it wasn't having it until OH suggested we try his USB lead from his computer - UREKA - it worked. Now have a printer installed and WiFi enabled which is great.
Will look in at the Daily Update in a few mins to see how things have gone.
Got new cooker arriving on Wed so our friendly builder is coming to disconnect the old one tomorrow evening ready for delevery of the new one, they are going to take my old cooker away - at a small price!

Lindybird - It sounds like it was a lovely funeral - giving thanks for her life.
Glad OH's eye problems have sorted themselves out. Hope Buzz fairs well at the vets and that you don't have a massive bill!
AQ - nice to read and see the pics about your adventure.
Annette and Diane - never really remember what you have written but am amused at some of the goings on - hope all is well with you both.
OG, Brenda, Alan, Alicat, and others I have forgotten, thanks for your posts and news.
Wendy – had just checked weather forecast – for here and there – it seems to be improving every time they update it!
Lynette – good way to get the printer connected – but what is OH doing for connection now – do you have to take turns with the cable? I hope you like your new cooker – and continue to enjoy baking.
Lindy - was leaving PC turned on to see how Buzz got on at the Vet’s – I hope everything is okay.
And so to bed!
Evening all: Spent ages on phone with tech support this morning with - guess what! - no success. Then stumbled on a new HP link to "problems with wireless printers" but was so exasperated just bookmarked the link for another day. Saw three whales today (6 total by the time I left at 3); only two calves so far. Now off to hear author of "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" at the local University.
dibnlib: Don't like bones either, but not as bad as hairs! Yuk! Never heard of Tedrol (thank heaven).
Wendy: Sorry you're missing your girls - horrible isn't it? But good you bumped into dibnlib. Moleskin pants? I must get out more often!
Diane: Your moles don't look much different from ours (not that I've seen any of ours). Glad to hear you're not leaving the family home.
Lindybird: How's your OH's eye now? Who was the idiot who left the stitch in?
OG: I expected life to get simpler once I retired, but no! Sigh.
Lynette: Can't imagine USB cables being a problem. Do envy you the sucesss with the wireless connection though.
OK, friend with parking pass at Uni is picking me up at 7:30 so must go wipe myself off, etc., and be ready to go. Take care all.
Lindy - Stella would have enjoyed her celebratory send-off. Your OH had a stitch in his eye that long!!!!!
Dibnlib - I hate preparing fish, having to remove all the bones. When daus were small, I was so careful that it became a horrible chore.
Diane - We have left the stumps of the prunus & liquidamber in our front yard - they were dying. It’s the least we can do having removed the bird’s perches. I call them our sculptures.
Lynette - It is so annoying they don’t take away old appliances these days, unless one pays of course.
Last week summer had its last fling with 2 days of 31C and now the max has dropped to teens & low 20s. It was 8C at breakfast. We had The Paint Excursion this morning to purchase, then I left OH at bus stop to go to city. Coming home I decided to food shop as I was already out & about. List was home on kitchen bench but remembered most things, plus some Easter eggs for gr-kids as they were on special. They’ll be even cheaper after Easter of course.
Riverland continued. A quick visit to a winery and it was time for our river cruise on the "River Rambler". http://www.renmarkrivercruises.com.au/charters.html. We sat outside. The swallows were darting in and around the front of the boat reminding me of dolphins. We both tried to snap them but only caught a blur or yet another pic of the muddy water. LOL. We saw numerous birds which my friend identified. (She's a real birdie.) Some so far in the distance that only a speck or blur with my camera. Heron, whistling kite and
egrets
purple swamphen
wood ducks (is that one family or a creche?)
darter (female). The male was on the nest.
whistling kite nest. The bird itself was too far away.
Houseboats on the Murray are popular for holidays. Renmark is 3 hours from the city, other river towns closer.
Our last visit was to Chaffey’s house, built in Canadian log cabin style, now run by National Trust. Then homeward with a coffee stop at Blanchetown. Next morning the idiot who had hobbled for an hour at dawn around Renmark, could hardly walk, dragged a very sore leg for 3 days. A lesson not to overdo things on overseas trip. BTW another WEA trip this Sunday!!
