Weekly Chat, Sunday April 10, 2011

Evening all: Been out most of the day; just sat down - phew.  Off to check other threads; back in a bit!

  • Morning/evening all: Went to gym this a.m., then up to daughter's apartment to check mail; just happened to have gardening tools from Rose Garden outing in the car and decided the area in front of her front door needed tidying up. Two hours later headed home for nice glass of wine before dinner. Sounds like everyone in the UK is enjoying lovely spring weather. Hurray!

Trish2: Congrats to Mia on her First Prize - or should we be congratulating you?

dibnlib: Can they alleviate Dillon's arthritis symptoms?

Alan: Great photo of a handsome Hamish projecting much gravitas I must say.

OG: Your day out sounds great, and what a thrill to introduce someone to the LG osprey cam. I went to the New Balance outlet store and was so excited to see so many shoes in my size I just had to try them all on!  I think our moles are similar to yours - ours are about 9" long, including the tail. They mostly just make a mess; unlike gophers, which will eat a flower or shrub in no time starting with the roots and dragging the rest of the plant down into the ground.

Lindybird: Read about that sonic device and plan to look into it. I guess we're all out in our gardens these days; spring provides all kinds of cllean up and weeding opportunities, which is why I lingered at my daughter's today. Also managed to tidy up and feed her roses, but had to keep my hands off the apartment's roses, since someone else (allegedly) looks after them, though you'd never know it.

patriciat: Doggy doggerel was sent to me by a friend and thought it might hit a chord with all the dog lovers on the blog.

    Have a lovely Sunday all.

  •  Here are some photos from Saturday at Threave:

    Singing Chaffinch

Fighting Pheasants - they didn't really go at it with feathers flying, it was more of a "stand-off" in a challenging position, to see who would surrender first!

    Reed Bunting

Ospreys - as I mentioned last night, we were still quite far from the nest, so these are not as good as Alan's stunning pictures from RW, but here are the two birds - Mrs in the nest and Mr perched.

And both on the nest with unwanted visitor -  probably a Crow, but could be a Raven since they nest very nearby in the Castle.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hello!   Yes, the sun is still shining here, and very welcome it is too.

OG:  More lovely pics from you!  The chaffinch is a truly great pic, and of course just love the Osps.

Annette:  You did your Good Deed for the Day in doing your daughters patch of garden -- I know, I would be itching to prune those nearby roses if I already had the tools in my hands!  Hope you can sort out those pesky moles.

We are off for a walk, and Buzz can hopefully have a nice swim in a lake.  Have a Good Day, All!

  • Good Morning All. Another beautiful morning, although we left the cars out last night and they were so wet this morning from a very heavy dew.

Annette, No wonder you are feeling tired. You go looking for jobs to do, but I agree with you, I wouldn't have been able to walk away from the roses.

OG, You really do take some super photographs. I love the chaffinch in mid song mode. Always very happy to see a reed bunting and so happy you were able to capture the ospreys from such a distance.
I really do hope your son will be happy in his new job and that it will lead to more work for him.

Linda, It is a lovely morning for a walk, but please don't join Buzz for a swim in the lake. I think the water will be very cold.

Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather.

  • OG  Love your pics esp the singing chaffinch.

BRENDA If Buzz is as keen on water as our Goldies have been there is no way Lindy will be able to keep him out. Our Lochs up here are pretty cold and even in January Fingal and Dillon have enjoyed a swim.

ANNETTE  Dillon is taking a pain relief called Metacalm for a few days and short lead walks only. On Friday he was obviously sorry for himself (his head was down) but the difference today is amazing, he his back to normal self. I must also start giving him cod liver oil and glusosamine on a regular basis. I will also take it myself. We get it from Holland and Barrett as it is much more expensive from the vet!!

  • OG I am thrilled to see Black 80 again (I presume that is him on the left)?

Tiger – from the whiter chest I am assuming that it is him on the branch in the first picture and left of the nest in the second.   It was reported as the same pair at Bird Club last week – but that may be just a local assumption, although the chap who said it (a ringer) seemed very knowledgeable.  I hadn’t realised how easy it was to see them from the top of the path down to the river, and we are looking forward to getting closer next time with my scooter.  There is a viewing platform, but I don’t know about access – it may be that I have to let OH use the camera!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi dibnlib, My advice was for Linda not to take a swim :-)  Our labrador always enjoyed water. he was also on Metacalm in his older life, but I only gave it to him when I thought he needed it ,as it always upset his stomach.

  • OG  Sorry my mistake I meant right. I got distracted trying to find a link where for some reason the site is not working. I am not sure if I have posted the black 80 link here before?
