Daily Update, Saturday, 2nd April, 2011

Hi everyone.

Another new day at Loch Garten.  I just wish that (insert expletive here) wind would calm down a bit!

  • Just found a website that seems to give more accurate wind stats.  As I post this, Aviemore is at 20 - 41mph. SSW

  • Thanks again Heron for starting us off.  Watched poor EJ wrestling with the large twig yesterday. She moved it to the left of the next, but three times it swung back and smacked her on the bottom. She was getting quite annoyed with it - it was hilarious to watch though I did empathize with her.  RIght now it's moved back into the center of the nest.  It sounds really fierce there, but I can't see anything moving on the nest, twig-wise.

  • Hi Annette.  It was fascinating watching EJ's efforts with the tree; sorry I meant twig;-).  It was quite hillarious too, especially the look on her face.  She did bring in a smaller branch later to hold the big branch in place but alas, it moved.

  • I suppose Odin's just sitting back on a comfortable armchair somewhere, with this month's copy of "What Trout?", looking up the weather for LG on his phone, and saying: "Seems a wee tad breezy up there. Think I'll hang about here for a bit."

  • EJ turned up to say "good morning", and have a look a the wind damage.  Then she flew off, probably muttering something.

  • And now she's back.  Doing more stick moving.

  • And now she contemplates her next move.

  • Hey Heron: I missed EJ's arrival - chasing very persistent raccoons out of our back yard. Looks like another bad hair day at LG.  Wouldn't blame Odin if he decided to do the "What Trout?" crossword puzzle and wait for the weather to improve.  It's fierce there; looks like EJ is going to have to fight the twig again.  No fun for the poor girl!!   Maybe we should suggest a windbreak for the nest for next year?  :-)  Aha! She's decided to go pick up some hot chocolate or something.  Is that rain that was whizzing by the cam sideways?

Oh boo. Just got notice that laptop battery is low; will sign off now and hope for better weather at LG.

  • Good morning Heron and Annette (QW passed your condols. on to her family btw and was pleased to get your 'best wishes'). Thanks for starting us off Heron and for all the night pics -( I like those, even sneaky peeks into the life of an Osprey).  Yes yes to all your comments re the wretched wind - it was obvious the BBC got the wind speeds wrong wasn't it - thanks for digging out more realistic stats on that one Heron.  I'm watching not only an empty nest but a lovely multi shaded pink/red sunrise from my spare bedroom which houses my computer stuff. I suppose that's actually not good is it?  Red sky in the morning and all that. But it is beautiful. Raccoons sound lovely Annette but I suppose they are pesty pests with wrecking ability.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh   I  hear an EJ (or something) on the camera post or somewhere out of sight. Later ........
