  • Lindy I was so sorry to hear of your friend's neighbour.  It sounds as though it was a blessing though.  I hope your friend enjoys lunch with her daughter today.  It is hard not to feel sad, but I am sure there are indeed a lot of happy memories.

dibnlib I love the area around Loch an Eilean.  My friend and I spent our second free-day's outing walking from Coylumbridge passed Loch an Eilein back to Coylumbridge.  It was beautiful.  My avitar was taken on this walk.  We took the bus from, the chalets to Aviemore, changed and a bus towards Glenmore Lodge to start the walk.

    Caroline has another blog.

  • Dibnlib  that's a beautiful spot for Fingal to rest and you to remember.

  • OG The significance of 3 years, 9 months and 13 days? was that it was my first outing to the seaside.

Lynette I think Lily has now abandoned the den.

JSB A great video. Nice story.

  • Went to Trumpington, Cambridge, to Waitrose this am, came back thru Pampisford/Sawston to buy some groundfeeder mixed corn for the partridge and pheasant.  When we came out of the shop something in the air caught my eye - a red kite!  How exciting is that - well it's the first time I've definitely seen one not far from home.  EJ just returned to the nest with a spot of mantling, and looking around her.  She must have been on the camera post as she had not long flown off - fish in talon.

My birdhouse in the silver birch, remember? Well things have been pretty quiet this week. The bluetits were around yesterday, but seemed more interested in the ants crawling up the tree and possibly the ants' friends, the aphids, not seen the latter though, as they are very small  and high up. The tree now has catkins out, so maybe that is of interest as well, since a bluetit seemed to be stuck in the tree for about 5 minutes, this morning, on a tiny twig with a catkin on the end, flapping about it was. Just as I thought about a ladder rescue, it was gone.

Have they or will they move into the birdhouse? I do not know, their interest all seems to be a bit casual.

    EDIT:

Since the bird keeps coming back to this twig, I think the twig is rubbing against the base of the birdhouse, in the wind and is perhaps causing annoyance to the occupant(s). But no real signs of comings and goings via the box entrance?

    Continued.......

By 4pm, since the activity under the birdhouse, was still going on and the bluetit was getting ever more desperate, I had a look through binoculars and what was about, was that the bird was attacking it's own reflection in a small shiny catch on the base, which was only about one inch by half an inch in size. Presumably the bird thought it's reflection was an intruder and as such had to be evicted, hence the pecking, which was quite audible. Back out with the long ladder then and some black insulating tape, to conceal the image. This action attracted the attention of some neighbours, who are also 'bird' people.

All seems quiet now, so it will be interesting to see if the tape remains in place.

  • Morning all:

Lynette: Hope what the doctor ordered helps your OH. Miserable, that! Great catches from Decorah.

Wendy: Hee-hee Our Wendy is a type of Coral Bell - many other kinds out there but for some reason this one is "exclusive." :-)

Alan: Thanks for explaining pip. I thought it was either another bird or a new word for "troll." (Egg tooth? Clearly I've a lot more to learn.)

Sheila: Our Heuchera (Coral bells) like the sun; must be a local brand! Raccoon came back last night and had to chase him off again - they look very cute but can be quite aggressive especially with small dogs/cats; unlike possums and skunks which just putter about and don't bother anyone much. Skunks of course have their own unique defence, so we don't chase them at all, and when possums get scared, they just fall over and play dead. They're marsupials, which I didn't realize - anyway, unfortunate habit of laying (lying?) down in the road when alarmed by cars means quite a few don't get up again.

Alicat: I can see your dilemma about the Scotland vacation. Hmmm. Maybe somewhere completely new this year? Or maybe other folks on blog have better words of wisdom?

Margobird: Glad you enjoyed your night out; nice that you're paying attention to OH on his free weekend.

Heron: Wish I understood cricket enough to appreciate the joke!

Lindybird: Oh dear, hate to hear of people going through hard times. I'm sure you'll be giving "hugs" of one kind or another to your friend for a while to come.... take care.

jsb: Had to laugh at Branson's alleged purchase of Pluto headline, but it's April 2 now and I know the dog rescue blurb is for real coz we watched it on telly last night.

Sheila: We have white-tailed kites here; not sure about red ones - but always nice to get a surprise from Mother Nature, especially on supermarket outings.

OK, off to Botanic Garden - grey and drizzly here today.  Take care everyone.

  • Fascinating tale jsb!  To be continued...
