Morning all.
Hi Annette
Dawn is breaking and no one is on the nest.
I wonder if anyone will see Odin today. I don't think anyone saw him yesterday. Richard said as of 3 P.M. he had not been seen. If he leaves before EJ they will need to tear another page out of the rule book. Maybe EJ knows he is gone and that is why she is staying to feed the chicks until they migrate
Formerly known as Barbara Jean
5:30 UK time. Windy weather at LG today. Nest is empty.
Hey Barbara Jean: Looks like a challenging day to fly - everything bouncing around. Yes, our girls (and boy) are taking their own sweet time about moving south, though the weather this weekend might be an incentive. Have you checked Rothes' progress - she's one busy bird!
6:-05 Well, stop-and-go visit from ...... didn't have time to ID! Sorry!
The distance Rothes has traveled in one week is amazing. She is definately in a hurry. I wonder if she is flying with some other Ospreys. So many are migrating at the same time they must see each other.
Funny you should mention that Barbara Jean - the thought crossed my mind too, and I was wondering if there was some kind of ospreys-only (or not just ospreys) navigational ability that allowed them to "join" other migrating ospreys/birds
Gone 10:30 here now and need to call it a day. Take care all; hope you have good osprey watching!
They may not be flying side by side the way other birds fly in flocks. However their eyesight is so accute EJ could see Odin coming few minutes before he arrived. They may see other experienced Osprey in the distance and follow them.
Until they tagged birds like Roy Dennis' Beatrice they didn't know some winter in the south of Spain. Wintering in Spain and other areas in Europe may be contributing to their population growing. Spain doesn't have tribal people ,as they do in some countries in Africa, who may kill them to eat them. Not to mention the distance is much shorter to travel and less taxing. EJ arrives in Spring looking quite fit.
Morning, Annette and Barbara Jean, if you're still on line. Rothes is amazing, isn't she? Let's hope she has indeed got company on her journey. And that she may stop in Spain for the winter. Sleep well when you retire for the night.
No one on the nest at all this morning. I may have to go and do some chores.....
