Val
I catch up with the news on the threads from time to time and wanted to add my own thanks for the photographs that you have posted, here and on your own web site. They are absolutely fantastic, and enhance the pleasure that one gets from following the daily lives of these extraordinary birds across the country, through the webcams and contributions of others on the various threads.
Here is a great shot of Hailuoto brood, this was taken by Control from Luotio-site
But more sad news from Janakkala-nest, third chick has died :( Probably got too little fish in this extremely hot weather ( it has been +30Cs for few days)

Sorry about the 3rd chick at Jannakala Auntie. Amazing temps of 30c +. It has been only 11or 12c here today.

Latest from Dyfi:
"18.45 The heavy rain's turned into a fine drizzle. Good news - Nora's fed all three chicks in the last 15 mins; all obviously well fed. Al"
I noticed that a recent Rutland Water blog included a link to an older version of the RW website, which describes the early years of the Rutland colony up to 2006, and has a lot of other useful info.
This page about birds which were translocated to Rutland, nesting in Wales in 2004-5 is especially interesting.
"The first known osprey chick to fledge in Wales" came from a nest which only existed in 2004, and which I have seen elsewhere was near Welshpool. Emyr Evans of Dyfi Osprey Project has put forward the idea that this chick, which could not be ringed, is Monty which would make him 7 this year.
The page also reveals that the long term Glaslyn male - orange 11(98) till he lost the ring - originally came from a nest near Loch Garten.
Monty has brough in a huge trout:
Keith Rogers Thanks Keith. I will be in Kenya for 3 weeks from 13th July - cant wait - just about time chicks will fledge all being well. I am hoping they will be ringed the week before.
One Life - Live It!!
ALAN PETRIE What a great vid of Monty & chicks! What I wouldnt do for a video camera at my nest! Something I am going to look into for next season!
Alan, Monty has proved himself to be brilliant at fishing for the really big fish. They say that the females are bigger and stronger and therefore catch the larger fish, if so, I hate to think what his partner will bring home. Thanks for the video.
