Confirmation that ZY has fledged at Caerlaverock and they are still trying to identify the intruder:

Another fantastic compilation from Dyfi - with proof that chicks do share fish (only when it's a garfish!):

That's really interesting about the intruder at Caerlaverock, Alan. White ring on the right leg, possibly starting with D or O (or 0, presumably). Hmmm.
Sandy : The same thought crossed my mind 0?
Interesting indeed: right leg implies English (or Welsh), so not that many possibilities.
Of the previously reported returned 2-year-olds, Rutland's 00(09), 01(09) and 03(09) all reported closer to 'home' in the last few days, but as we've seen with Rothiemurchus, they can travel a good distance when they want to! If my notes are right, 03 has a blue ring and 00 is female. I don't know ring colours for the others, including 06 (male).
There are also the two Bassenthwaite 2009 survivors - white 08, 09 (but both thought to be female when ringed). The first 3 chicks from Kielder are hopefully also around somewhere - I couldn't find any record of their ring numbers (if any).
And from 2008, I believe Nora has a brother - presumably also with a white ring.
Alan/Sandy, Looking through Sue's list of ring ID's there only appear to be two English/Welsh males with a leading 0,O or D. I assume that 03/97 is still at site B, which I think gives 5 options:
Am I correct or are there other options I've not considered.
Hi Rachel,
According to Sue's list white 01(08) Nora's sibling is female. The 09 Rutland Ospreys we know about are Blue rings
Thanks, Vespa. Have had another look at Sue's list, and I'm even more confused now: if you look at her master list (as opposed to the annual spreadsheets) there were three chicks from Rutland B in 2008 - white 01, 03 (Nora), and 05. 05 was thought to be male, and returned to Rutland last year, but doesn't seem to have been reported so far in 2011.
I'm guessing this will be either one of the 2009 Kielder chicks, or a bird originally thought to be female - there is precedent for weight not being a totally accurate guide. Wherever this bird turns out to originate from, I really hope they manage to read the ring.
