That is interesting but the numbers do not seems to have changed a lot. I may be wrong but I thought they had 25 pairs some years ago. They keep on writing their website in French for some reason!

Garry Ridsdale is there at the moment and tweeted the figures re breeding pairs.
These three chicks in Seili-nest got their rings yesterday
Overall Finnish ospreys are doing OK. Estemated number of breeding pairs is now 1 300. Although last years productivity wasn't so great - in 20 years time it has been lower only in 2009 and 1995

This is the latest info I can find on osprey numbers in mainland France, as at the end of the 2010 breeding season.
Gary Ridsdale's figure of 22 seems to equate to "at least 20" last year for the Foret d'Orleans and its surroundings, which is the original and core area. But there is also Parc de Chambord, with 6 couples, and the recent growth has been in the surrounding areas around and down the Loire (plus a single pair in Lorraine). All this gives an estimated total of 35-40 breeding pairs.
Also, the two chicks at the observed nest at Etang du Ravoir have recently fledged - pictures here.
Sue C Thank you for that data.
Rolf Wahl has got some interesting graphs on population. See here Also I notice that they seem to read the rings from top to bottom in France as opposed to bottom to top here. See Reporting Osprey Colour Rings
