A Heron as moved in!

I feel quite priveleged, we now have a heron living beside us for the past week.  He has moved into the burn just outside our fence.  Apparently in the past there was a fish farm 200 yards further up once and although now gone, still quite a few escapee trout have remained, thus providing the necessary food for this bird.  We see them in there dozens around the Beauly Firth but this is the first time at the top of the hill approx 650 foot up.

  • Elizabeth I know that feeling of priveledge and they are an amazing sight close up and strutting around.

We have lived along the Spey for quite a few years now and often see the herons around but I was really surprised this spring to spot 2 herons in the field behind the cottage and they were there for some time.It looked as though were pulling up worms.....I assume their fish diet had become a bit boring!!!

Mind you at certain times of year buzzards have been in the same field pulling up the worms....obviously a lack of road kill around.
