Morning all: Much ballyhooed snow didn't materialize, we had a sunny day but very cold tonight with temps just below freezing. Spent the first couple of hours today online with Dell Tech Support after a website I clicked on (via Google) delivered a spyware program disguised as an anti-virus program (one of those things that suddenly lights up your desktop with alarming messages about threats to your computer). I ignored it and immediately launched McAffee to scan my computer, which found nothing. However, the spyware program (called Internet Security Essentials) wouldn't go away until Dell's remote support took over and did a super-scan and clean up (LOVE that service! So glad I signed up for it!)

Trish: They said it will take a while for the autopsies on the dolphins. Glad your OH remembered his training and sat still, even if Mia forgot!

Diane: Have never heard of the Nevada Triangle. Will certainly keekp an eye out for the program  - we're watching DVD of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest right now. The UK is (it's rumored) is warmed by the Gulf Stream, which perhaps accounts for the daffodils, etc., while you're still dealing with weather from what I believe is called the Canadian Shield...

AQ: Our plants are in danger of drowning right now; have moved some of the potted plants under the eaves to protect them from any frost.

Lindybird: Had big laugh at image of you scraping your pizza off the floor - I'm a firm believer in keeping our immune systems challenged!! :-))  I shall be tuned in to the Oscars from the silly "red-carpet arrivals" pre-show all the way to the final curtain call, although I must confess to shouting a lot at the telly during the entire show. I think The King's Speech will do OK; Colin Firth was nominated last year for A Single Man but didn't get it; think he stands a good chance this time round (and if he doesn't get it, you'll hear me yelling at the telly all the way to the UK)!!

Margobird: Your sister sounds like a real gem.

OG: So glad you had a chance to make various plans with son.

dibnlib: "My fried egg has landed upside down on the floor?"  Maybe that happens a lot in Russia?  :-))

Hi to all I missed. Have a lovely Sunday!

  • Good Morning All. We returned from an unexpected holiday in Rome yesterday, which OH just planned at the last moment as a surprise for me. It was so enjoyable and we both feel so refreshed now. As I haven't been on here for 12 days, there is a lot for me to read, which I will try and catch up with. but have just read this page for now.

Linda, If I haven't missed you, do have a great holiday.

Diane, That is a day and night you just don't want repeating. An ear infection and cutting your hand in such a dangerous place would be enough for any of us but then to spend such a frightening night listening to the storm and the raging water. I really do admire how you coped. Plenty of hugs flying your way.

Cirrus, So good to hear from you. Hope all your computer problems are settled quickly.

Annette, Always good to read your whale reports. How lucky to see six and four perform a unison blow. That would be such a sight to observe.

AQ, Glad you have finished the wallpaper stripping. Now you will be able to see progress in the decorating and enjoy the outcome of all your hard work.

George, I am so pleased to hear that  Diesel is winning everyone's hearts. Our dog used to bark at the hoover and the lawn mower.

I have to go and face the supermarket now. Still drizzling here with a cold wind.

  • Good morning all and now trying to catch up with all the posts and new etc.  Had a delightful day with Rhys and my sister yesterday, although my sister is far from well with the terrible virus that sounds just like Lindybird had.  He is walking now so it was time buy his first pair of proper shoes, especially as he will need them for nursery when they take the children outside.  He is such a sweetheart, I love him to bits.  Was so good while he had his feet measured and then was fitted with the shoes he needs.  No problem at all he was off as soon as we put him down on the floor and didn't have any trouble with the shoes.  He is like a drunken little man when he walks but getting better all the time and so fast.  He walked from the shop back to the car which for us was not far but for him was quite a walk.  He laughs and smiles the whole time and just loves his food.  Couldn't believe how much he tucked away at lunchtime and feeding himself most of the time.  My sister dropped me back home just before 4.00 and he was by this time fast asleep in hid car seat.    Sister took his shoes off when they got back home and he held on tight to them until bath time and then she put them back on so his Daddy could see them.  We always buy the shoes for the children of the family until they go to school and it was a joy to see how proud he was of his new shoes.  He also had a cardigan on which I had got for him for his birthday.  So nice to see things you have given being used.  His Mum is still recovering from her recent surgery but is coming along fine.  She has to see a consultant again Thursday and will find out then if she is going to need further surgery. All in all I had a very enjoyable day.

SheilaFE thanks for the tips regarding midges.  I had heard that Skin so Soft was quite good for this.  I will certainly get one of the other options you mentioned.    Tried to drop a message on your personal page again this morning but as yet if hasn't gone so will keep trying.  Thanks for the book recommendation, certainly one to put on my list.

Lindybird a bit late but thanks for the Monday Smiles along the same lines as last week but very funny.  Guessed you would be rushing around a bit prior to your going away tomorrow.  Hope you have a wonderful time and come back with your batteries fully charged.  Was delighted to see you had seen a fox in your garden.  A good healthy dog fox is a sight to see, such a beautiful colour.

Alan thanks for the links, another good osprey pic on the advent calendar.  Also for the egg news and the baseball light tower nests news.  Hiltobn Head news now looks promising as well.

  • Siloly me clicked on the wrong thing when I meant to go on posting.

    Here goes again.

acqlareen so pleased you have rather more confortable temperatures at long last.

Diane you have every right to whinge but I wouldn't call it that.  What a terribly hard spell you are goring through what with an ear infection, cutting yourself badly and doing your own stitch up job and last but not least the terrible weather you have had.  Pleased that you did not get flooded  but what a worry it must have been for you.  Tornadoes close by as well.  Hope you have a good night's rest and today will be a much better day all round.

Annette  so pleased you saw whales, what a wonderful sight that must have been.

Foixtail nice to see you again, osprey time not far away now.

Lynette thanks for all the captures, so much to look at now it gets ever harder to keep up with things.

Cirrus  so nice to see a post from you, hope you get computer sorted out sooner rather than later.  Osprey season fast approaching, can hardly believe we are into March now.

georgeg so pleased your wekend went well and Diesel was a hit.  I hope you are going to keep him as the month must be nearly up now.  I am sure you are enjoying taking him for walks especially now you have had some sun.

Alan  good to hear that there might be an egg at Dunedin.  I was looking  the other day and saw them both on the nest which was the first time I had seen them both.

original goldfinch hope you enjoy the photographic exhibition and light lunch although I always say spoil yourself a little.

Sorry about spelling mistakes, slapped wrist for me.

  • Good morning BrendaH and what a lovely surprise.  OH and I love Rome, we went about 4 years ago.  OH had never been but I had and knew how much he would enjoy it.  Of course he fell in love with it and we are hoping to go again maybe next year.  There is so much to see and do there and I hope the weather was a bit brighter than it has been hear.  Glad you both feel so relaxed now.  We are going to Florence again in May to see all the places we did not visit when we were last there.  Friday week we are off to Viareggio which is a place we visit often although always in summer.  They have a carnival at this time every year and after many years of saying we must go are now doing so for four days.  That will be a nice break for us and especially OH as he is so busy all the time now.

Sorry to hear you have drizzle, sun is shining here but a very cold wind.  I believe it is warmer in parts of Scotland today than it is here in the South.

  • Brenda : Glad you had a nice time in Rome.

Linda : I hope you have a nice holiday. My DIL & SIL are off to Tennerife on thursday for a week.

Not sure what is going on at Dunedin but not much incubating and it looks terribly wet there today.

Took this pic from the Hilton Head cam:

  • Alan thanks for the osprey pic from Hilton Head, but I hope the osprey at Dunedin will not lose the egg.

  • DjoanS we are having a bit of an Itlalian Feast this year as we will be going to a hotel just outside  Sorrento late August as well.  We have been to this paricular hotel quite a few times and it is a real favourite of our.  Terribly spoilt for holidays this year but we probably won't do so much next year.  Of course I have my week at LG too which is just over 3 months away now.

AlICAT osprey time is nearly upon us and I am so looking forward to it.
