Morning all: Much ballyhooed snow didn't materialize, we had a sunny day but very cold tonight with temps just below freezing. Spent the first couple of hours today online with Dell Tech Support after a website I clicked on (via Google) delivered a spyware program disguised as an anti-virus program (one of those things that suddenly lights up your desktop with alarming messages about threats to your computer). I ignored it and immediately launched McAffee to scan my computer, which found nothing. However, the spyware program (called Internet Security Essentials) wouldn't go away until Dell's remote support took over and did a super-scan and clean up (LOVE that service! So glad I signed up for it!)
Trish: They said it will take a while for the autopsies on the dolphins. Glad your OH remembered his training and sat still, even if Mia forgot!
Diane: Have never heard of the Nevada Triangle. Will certainly keekp an eye out for the program - we're watching DVD of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest right now. The UK is (it's rumored) is warmed by the Gulf Stream, which perhaps accounts for the daffodils, etc., while you're still dealing with weather from what I believe is called the Canadian Shield...
AQ: Our plants are in danger of drowning right now; have moved some of the potted plants under the eaves to protect them from any frost.
Lindybird: Had big laugh at image of you scraping your pizza off the floor - I'm a firm believer in keeping our immune systems challenged!! :-)) I shall be tuned in to the Oscars from the silly "red-carpet arrivals" pre-show all the way to the final curtain call, although I must confess to shouting a lot at the telly during the entire show. I think The King's Speech will do OK; Colin Firth was nominated last year for A Single Man but didn't get it; think he stands a good chance this time round (and if he doesn't get it, you'll hear me yelling at the telly all the way to the UK)!!
Margobird: Your sister sounds like a real gem.
OG: So glad you had a chance to make various plans with son.
dibnlib: "My fried egg has landed upside down on the floor?" Maybe that happens a lot in Russia? :-))
Hi to all I missed. Have a lovely Sunday!
Normal 0 false false false
This is just to say, I ‘ve been without a computer for just under 3 months and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to get this message online before it freezes on me (or not) - the repair is an ongoing saga. Sigh.
I’ve missed not being online with you all and desperately trust I’ll be online when EJ returns.
Warmest wishes to you all
Oi where's my Avatar ..... oh for crying out
Anyway, it's Cirus here
Cirrus - you'll have to get that computer fixed quick, time is running out.
Love the Monday smiles.
It was a slightly frosty start but a brilliant sunny morning. All usual birds – and extra numbers – visited today. Had to make birthday card for OH’s nephew’s child – don’t like having to find inspiration for kiddie cards!
Thanks for evening captures – sorry about rain down south.
AQ – hadn’t heard Christchurch was expecting storms – that’s really not fair! That poor wee cat – I hope the chicken diet will help him – but why the sudden intolerance to fish? I hope you can re-establish a better sleep pattern.
Annette – pleased plants came through frost okay, and that you had nice weather Sunday.
Lindy – thanks for smiles again. Don’t dash about too much – keep some strength for enjoying your holiday!
Cirrus – wondered what had happened to you. Missed you lots because we thought you would be back here with us after your visitors left. Hope full communications are restored soon, and definitely in time for Ospreys!!
Have a good day, all.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Morning all,
Linda : thanks for the monday smiles. I see we are still on the same theme. LOL
Cirrus : Welcome back and do whatever it takes to get your PC fixed.
Lynette : Thanks for al the eagle pics and the bears. I have not been able to get the Dunedin cam to work lately so glad you managed to get a couple of pics there.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat, pics, links etc.
Cant really comment on the oscars as haven't see The Kings Speech. Not really into awards programs.
Great result for Birmingham City yesterday beating Arsenal in the Carling cup Final and Dundee continue their unbeated run with a draw on saturday. Now 18 league games unbeaten. I wont mention the rugby as it is not one of my favourite sports. Too thuggish for me. I remember having to play it at school and it was all the heavy guys who were best at it. I used to play scrum half. Much preferred football and cricket.
Weather is drizzly, damp, dreary, dull. Temp 4c.

2 eggs at San Jose and 1st egg for Aria & Vento
Cirrus: Nice to see you again - how awful for you, and frustrating too. Do hope you can get sorted in time for EJ's return.
Alan: Saw some of the Birmingham game on TV yesterday with my OH, what a drama with that late goal!
Pic taken on infra red cam at Dunedin:
Morning All and a special hello to Cirrus, nice to see you again. Yesterday's rugby was a bit of a disappointment, but the second half was much more fun. How many times have I said to myself, if only Scotland played like that throughout.... I caught the last 15 minutes or so of the Birmingham City v Arsenal match and although I don't know much about footie, I have to say it was very exciting! I was tempted to say something last night, but thought some might have recorded it, and there is nothing worse than knowing the score before you have seen it! Alan so glad to see that Dundee continues to do well.
Work continued on the track this morning with another load of crushed concrete being laid. OH went out to join the three-man team in racking it into the potholes. We are now waiting for the 'scrapings', which I understand is the tarmac which is removed when roads are relaid. All good fun, but it is horrible out there. NE wind and light rain making it very cold. I took them mugs of tea to help warm them up, but I think a lot of the tea ended on the tray as I walked across the grass and up the track towards them!
I listened to BBC Radio 4's book of the week this morning (9.45-10.00am). Annie Proulx Bird Cloud. It was brilliant. Non-fiction, based on her experience of buying 640 acres of Wyoming wetland and prairie and a 400 foot cliff plunging down to the North Platte River, and building a house. In this first episode she visited the land, then owned by the Nature Conservancy, and saw a huge array of wildlife including pelicans, bald and golden eagles, great blue herons, ravens, bluebirds, harriers, kestrels, elk, deer, etc. Her use of words paints a wonderful picture and if you haven't read the book I recommend you catch the readings this week.
Enjoy the day, whatever the weather.

2/28/11 The female osprey was on the nest at 11:44pm, last night. This morning there are 2 eggs in the nest. She is trying to adjust them so they are closer together as she is unable to sit on both at the same time. She is settling into an incubating position. BW"
Afternoon all ... mixed day here ... sometimes sunny, sometimes dull and gloomy ... sunny at the moment and quite springlike! When we were away last week we noticed how springlike everything was ... daffodils fully out, leaves on hedges and bushes ... and we even saw rhododendrons in bloom!!
Back into normal routine now after our time away ... thanks for your welcome back messages!
Annette - we visited Midleton (for OH to do to the Jamesons Whiskey Experience) and Youghal, neither of which we had been to before. Of course, while in Cork we visited the English Market and had several visits to the Farmgate Cafe :-)) .... as wonderful as ever!
Cirrus - how lovely to see you posting again ... we have missed you ... but how awful to be without your computer for so long. I do hope that you get it sorted before our ospreys return.
Linda - love the Monday Smiles ... I saw this sign in Cork's English Market last week, and thought of you ... I think you may have posted this one before!
Hi Diane - have you looked at the Barn Owl Trust site lately? They have seen barn owls in the barn recently and I saw one last night when I looked. They don't know if conditions will be right for breeding, but fingers crossed that they will. For anyone interested, this is the link: http://www.thewebbroadcastingcorporation.com/barnowlcam.html
Thanks to everyone else for chat etc
Take care.
