After Tiger started the thread for tracking Rothes and Mallachie I thought that we could do with a thread for the tracking of ospreys fitted with transmitters by Roy Dennis. As the "summer" marches on it won't be long before the only way we can get our osprey fix is to follow their migrations.
This year we have the opportunity of following all three tagged birds from last year: Nimrod, Beatrice and Morven. It will be fascinating to find out if they will winter in exactly the same place as last year, and also whether they take the same route.
Added to that Roy has tagged two more adult males this year, Red/white 8T (an Abernethy bird) and Morven's other half (Logie's ex fella). I'm not certain whether Roy has any further transmitters or will attempt to catch any more adult males but, including Rothes and Mallachie, we will be able to follow at least 7 ospreys on their incredible journeys this autumn.
Hi Alan, I recollect hearing or reading about osprey nests near Loch Lomond, which as you know is a very large area, but, the southern end at Balloch is very close to the Clyde and ringers would not want to be that precise, so maybe they meant Clyde as a region. I have not been following Blue MB's adventures, maybe you could please post a catch-up sentence for those like me, wondering what he/she is doing there as winter approaches. Cheers.

Jsb : Blue MB is a juvenile osprey which has been around the Chess river valley since 21st October Bucks/Herts near Amersham seen fishing and catching brown trout..
I think you are right jsb. By Clyde I think that they mean Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park:
"The National Park is home to several pairs of breeding ospreys who arrive here to mate each spring. Keen observers can spot them hunting over many of our lochs in the summer months. Loch Venachar, Loch Lomond, Loch Eck and the Lake of Menteith are some of the places where you might see these beautiful birds."
Alan thanks, also telepathy at work here.......guess what I was looking for to post for you.........the same webpage........

Hi JSB/Alan, the latest post on the birding Amersham blog confirms your suspicions that Blue MB is from Loch Lomond.
Hi Vespa Crabro, I guess that since food is available, Blue has the conflicting forces of possible hunger versus the migratory instinct to continue the migration. Maybe the flight south of other birds, probably not ospreys, may act as a catalyst to get going.
Now that I've read the name Loch Lomond I have the song playing in my head. =O)
Caerann : Me too. It has made me homesick. This version should speed Blue MB on his/her way .

I was really hoping Blue MB had gone on Thursday, while the weather was good down south. Perhaps he's hanging round in order to stake a claim on this: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/4728592.New_home_for_ospreys/
I do think this plan is a little over-optimistic - it may be some time before we see ospreys nesting just inside the M25.........
