After Tiger started the thread for tracking Rothes and Mallachie I thought that we could do with a thread for the tracking of ospreys fitted with transmitters by Roy Dennis. As the "summer" marches on it won't be long before the only way we can get our osprey fix is to follow their migrations.
This year we have the opportunity of following all three tagged birds from last year: Nimrod, Beatrice and Morven. It will be fascinating to find out if they will winter in exactly the same place as last year, and also whether they take the same route.
Added to that Roy has tagged two more adult males this year, Red/white 8T (an Abernethy bird) and Morven's other half (Logie's ex fella). I'm not certain whether Roy has any further transmitters or will attempt to catch any more adult males but, including Rothes and Mallachie, we will be able to follow at least 7 ospreys on their incredible journeys this autumn.
Good morning Alan very interesting about the osprey. I wonder if it will survive our winter.
Margobird
Vespa Crabro thanks for the info. It will be interesting to see if it can be indentified but I wonder whether it can survive the winter in the UK, of so it will probably be a first.
Re Sarratt osprey - it's been identified as a bird from North Scotland & was seen on 12th but not today - rather worrying link on account of the weather below

It's not far from where I live so was hoping to go there over the week end, but perhaps not! Envy the ones that have made it to Senegal!
Colneybird : No need to worry. Sarratt osprey sighted again today.

I have been following this blog about the Osprey. I wonder why it has not flown south like the other young ospreys.
I do hope it decides to leave soon before the really bad weather starts!! Frost, snow!
If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
Thanks for that - will try to get there tomorrow - fingers crossed osprey fans, please!!! I have heard recently that they sometimes hang around as late as December. O for a decent zoom (on my wish list for January!)
I went, I saw the habitat & a good few twitchers but no osprey!! Spoke to others who had seen the bird & we're hoping it's heading for sunnier climes! It was a beautiful day but I was surprised how shallow the River Chess was fro hunting purposes! Lovely part of Herts, slightly hilly, rural but near M25!
Alan so glad the osprey is still OK but wish he/she would move onl. Can't believe it intends to stay for the winter.
Osprey reported as being in same area today. They have been sighted as late as mid December in UK. Hopefully it will be ok.
Alan thanks for that I am keeping eveyything crossed for this osprey.
