Tracking Other UK Ospreys

  • Thanks Sandy

Go Nimrod! As you say, last position 60 miles off the coast but should be well inland by now and mayby half way through!!

  • Last year Nimrod had a refuelling stop for a few days near La Rochelle. He knows he needs to stock up before negotiating the Saharan obstacle, not much chance of a fuel stop there.

  • Good news about Nimrod. Just Talisman to leave now and they will all be gone.

OMG Judy, so it is!  What an unbelievable coincidence!

If I'm not mistaken, your avatar looks like a Rutland osprey as well - the permanent one on the island.

  • Another brief update on RED 8T from Roy:

    18 Sept

"At 0635GMT he was 121 kilometres further through the deserts"

Seems to be no stopping him!

  • Thanks Flying C. This is good to hear hopefully he will arrive safely after this very long trip and find somewhere to fish.

  • Did anyone notice that Nimrod crossed the channel on almost exactly the same track as Rothes?

  • Thanks FlyingC:)

I didn't notice that Alan. Interesting

Hi Alan, I did notice, but I don't think I mentioned it anywhere at the time, that Rothes' route is very similar to Nimrod's last year. If you remember he stopped just north of her position, on the Ile d'Oleron, for a brief stopover before his famous non-stop flight to Africa. Now if Rothes were to take that route I would certainly be impressed!

  • Hi Sandy, I have just had a look at Nimrods route last year and it is very close to Rothes track this time especially from Wales onwards. It will be interesting to see where Nimrod and Rothes final wintering places are.
