After Tiger started the thread for tracking Rothes and Mallachie I thought that we could do with a thread for the tracking of ospreys fitted with transmitters by Roy Dennis. As the "summer" marches on it won't be long before the only way we can get our osprey fix is to follow their migrations.
This year we have the opportunity of following all three tagged birds from last year: Nimrod, Beatrice and Morven. It will be fascinating to find out if they will winter in exactly the same place as last year, and also whether they take the same route.
Added to that Roy has tagged two more adult males this year, Red/white 8T (an Abernethy bird) and Morven's other half (Logie's ex fella). I'm not certain whether Roy has any further transmitters or will attempt to catch any more adult males but, including Rothes and Mallachie, we will be able to follow at least 7 ospreys on their incredible journeys this autumn.
This is the link to the site for Roy Dennis and the tracking.

News so far is that Nimrod had a single chick, Beatrice has two youngsters which have fledged and Morven has a single chick
The only source of knowledge is experience. Albert Einstein
Oh yes Red 8T featured at Loch Garten in 2005. He evicted OVS and for a short while played at being a mate to EJ. Then Henry turned up and evicted him. I will be interested to hear more about him and what he has been up in the last three years.

Are these ospreys tracked on google earth as well?
Make the most of today because, unlike Sky+, there isn't a rewind button.
Yes and no. The maps shown were from Google Earth but you could not actually view them on Google Earth if you know what I mean. Not sure if there will be maps this year.
Thanks Tiger :)
Site updated recently. Nimrod, Morven and Beatrice still at nest sites although Beatrice has, unusually, spent a lot of time some distance from hers and is presumably leaving the fishing duties to the male.
Maps are included this year, last 3 updates for Beatrice have included maps.
Roy's site updated today - Beatrice has started migration! In fact she started on Sunday the 9th (same day as Rothes) and by last night had reached Retford in Notts. Last year she called in at Rutland Water and seems to be heading there again.
Roy reports that he has contacted Tim Mackrill at RW so he can look out for her today.
Here is Beatrice's journey. See http://www.roydennis.org/osprey/index.asp?id=163&sid=#thumb
Thanks Tiger...fascinating !
"Birds of a Feather".... ~( :o )
Beatrice is steadily working her way south through France. Interestingly, her latest position is not very far east of Rothes' stop off on the Gironde estuary. I wonder if she will also take a break there.
