After Tiger started the thread for tracking Rothes and Mallachie I thought that we could do with a thread for the tracking of ospreys fitted with transmitters by Roy Dennis. As the "summer" marches on it won't be long before the only way we can get our osprey fix is to follow their migrations.
This year we have the opportunity of following all three tagged birds from last year: Nimrod, Beatrice and Morven. It will be fascinating to find out if they will winter in exactly the same place as last year, and also whether they take the same route.
Added to that Roy has tagged two more adult males this year, Red/white 8T (an Abernethy bird) and Morven's other half (Logie's ex fella). I'm not certain whether Roy has any further transmitters or will attempt to catch any more adult males but, including Rothes and Mallachie, we will be able to follow at least 7 ospreys on their incredible journeys this autumn.
Beatrice is now heading for the Pyrennees

It is interesting how Morven is late this year but she is repeating last year's behaviour.

Latest news from Roy Dennis:
Nimrod: Still at nest site. Last year he didn't start migration till 22nd September!
Beatrice: Re-started migration after lengthy stop at L'Adour river. Exactly the same as last year. Currently in Northern Spain.
Talisman: This is Morvern's current partner. Still at home as of 25th August.
Morven: Exhibited same behaviour as last year by going North before starting migrating proper.
Thanks Sandy RP. Have been following Morven, Nimrod and Beatrice since they were tagged. Now we have Talisman as well.
I think Roy Dennis mentioned he was going to try and catch another of the adult males in the next week or so. Can't remember which one without going all the way back to his blogs. We would then have an amazing group to follow. I think its all brilliant!
Thanks for this still trying to catch up with everything so this was a rimely reminder for me to have a look at this site.

Rothes seems to be following in Beatrice's footsteps (if that's the right word!) - leave early, lengthy stopover in SW France. I wonder if she'll fly directly over the Pyrenees too?
Latest entry in his diary Roy says that Nimrod and Talisman are still in Findhorn area
Latest information on Beatrice on Roy Dennis website for today 02/09
At 6 and 7am, she was perched at the end of a small wood in agricultural fields a little south of her last night's roost, then she moved a bit more south and was perched at 8am. An hour later she had started migrating and then turned south, she was flying SSE at 49km/h at 1688 metres altitude, so had gained height and set off to the South. At 11am, she was flying south west at 35km/h over Malagon. By which time she had covered 45 kilometres. Her previous wintering site on the Guadiaro river is 340 kilometres further on. I wonder if she's going to spend her winter there or will she go further and on into Africa. I'd guess the former.
