Morning all: Here's to a good week for everyone. Check out latest pages of last week's thread to see great pix by OG of a kestrel on a road sign and a signpost for migrating birds and Gary's photos of the lovable Toffee plus his Toffee-proof technology. Just had dinner and managed to turn perfectly lovely piece of halibut into shoe leather!  Hate it when that happens, but was busy watching weather forecast.  Desk is looking cleaner - can actually see the surface now.  Take care all!

  • Good morning original goldfinch lovely pics of the sparrows and the acrobatic bluetit.  I am lucky here in that I get a lot of sparrows and I just love the racket they make when they are all in the tree at the end of the garden.  The pair or pied wagtails are regulars and have been since we had the snow.  There is another female around but she gets chased away by the pair, never knew pied wagtails were territorial.  Also bluetits flitting in and out all day and I hope my nest box will be used again this year as they were a delight to watch.

    Have a good day.

  • Afternoon all,

OG : More great pics of sparrows and the blue tit.

Linda : I have not watched any of the Madagascar programs. I will try and watch it on i player. It is hard to get round to watching everything at the moment. Goodness knows what it will be like when the ospreys return. Crawley did really well and surprised me as I thought it would be 4 or 5 nil even with a weakened Man U. team.

Annette : thanks for starting the week off once again. 4 more sundays and it will all be happening.

Margo : I am glad you slept better last night. A glass or 2 of wine always helps.

Another miserable day and the yellow orb seems to have deserted us once more. Rained all day yesterday and drizzled all this morning with the temp around 4c. We went to Van Hage this morning and bought some veg and bird food there. I am off to take Hamish out and then watch some footie.

Osprey on the Dunedin cam a few minutes ago:

  • This is a first for me. Peregrine at NottinghamTrent university:

  • afternoon all. Cold and blowy start today. Snow forecast for tonight, into tomorrow. Hmmmmmmm. OH still not right but better than yesterday.

Annette, sorry about the fish. Put it down to being over tired:)

AQ, that is a big lizard. I've lost a tennis ball in the garden. Could you do your stuff with that please??...LOL

Sue C, thanks for the pictures. Sorry to have started the cockerel chat! lol. Didn't know about the site. I'm going to spend hours on there later, checking out my old haunts. Thanks. Hope you didn't get too wet.

OG, thanks for some more great pictures.

Trish, glad you are coming round a little to TT.... LOL. She hasn't chewed anything vital yet (that we've found) so trying to be pre emptive..

Lindy, good morning:) thanks for the tip about neat mustard. may try that. Hope you have a good time with the visitors. I think it was son and NGF?

Margobird, hope you sleep better soon.

Alan, thanks for the osprey again and the other capture. Incredible.

  • Gary  sorry you are in for more snow.    If TT ( said I wouldn't do this but it has a nice ring to it) wants to play I guess it will have to be you who goes outside while she has a romp around in the snow until your OH has fully recovered which I hope she will do soon.  Do you usually have as much snow as you are having.

  • Good afternoon Alan  thanks for the osprey pic.   I found the peregrine cam the other day from another blog I looked and meant to post it here, but the memory let me down again.   It's a nice clear pic anyway and I have just been watching while the female making the scrape so thoughts are definitely turning to mating.

Sorry you are having such miserable weather, not too bad here today as we have had some sun but heavy rain forecast overnight and the rest of the week not looking briliant.

Enjoy the footie and hope Hamish enjoyed his walk.

  • Half time at the footie so here are a couple of osprey pics from Hilton Head cam:

  • Thanks for posts so far today – not many – where is everyone?  Last two Caerlaverock photos – was it really only a week ago that we enjoyed tea and cakes with Terry and her OH?!

    Young Swan:

     Lapwing:

Lindy – cold here too, so still no gardening.  Been making quiches to freeze – planned because we wanted one to eat, then had the pie from Farmers’ Market, but had assembled ingredients, so carried on.  I didn’t like the cat in the jar – made me feel very claustrophobic.  Didn’t watch Madagascar – suffering from Attenborough overload recently.  (sorry, I seem to be rather negative today!)  I hope you didn’t dash around too much with the vac – I’m sure NGF won’t be checking up on you!

Margo – pleased you had a better night – must have been the wine – good excuse for another tipple this evening, if you like that sort of thing!

Trish – I hope you had an enjoyable walk, and not too cold.

Gary – sorry you are getting more snow.  Pleased that OH is a little better.  Lost ball – have you really been playing tennis in the snow??!!  Don’t be sorry about the Cockerel, I think we all had a bit of fun with that one!

Must go and help with washing up from my cooking!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Morning/evening all: Brilliant sunshine here; spoke to my sister in Lincolnshire a while back and her OH has had the same awful cough that Lindybird seems to have had; he was in the room with the big telly watching "footie" as Alan calls it while my sister made comforting noises now and then.

AQ:  Lizarda is a big girl! Our lizards are tiny - about six inches long. Your long-distance Intercession on my behalf re lost keys very much appreciated. I shall go stand serenely in the garage and wait for them to call to me!  Have also offered up an apologetic ("sorry, I know it's been a long time, but...") prayer to St. Anthony who will probably put me on his "low priority" list. :-)

SueC: That's a huge cockerel - I thought they only made things that big in Texas.

OG: Had first good night's sleep in more than a week last night, so feeling like me again. Daughter just called and it's snowing in Prescott, but we now have brilliant sunshine here so they'll have the same in another day. Love the sparrow convention and your ambitious Blue Tit - and that wonderful Lapwing. I always wonder about the evolutionary reasons behind such dramatic coloring.

Trish2  I do make notes - have this nifty "digital sticky" option on my computer desktop. (Stickies here are those tiny little notepads in various sizes/colors that have an adhesive strip on one edge. OH has them decorating his monitor; my version is much neater and they don't fall off!  (I've just copy/pasted my sticky notes onto the blog and the typeface is much bigger than normal; it'll be interesting to see how it "translates" once it's posted.)

Lindybird:  Oh that is a strange kitty story; made me squirm a bit.

Alan:  I'm amazed at all these webcams dotted about the countryside.

Gary: Maybe train Ms Toffee to find lost tennis balls?

    dibnlib: Nice to see you!

Going to hit Trader Joe's before it gets busy and then to the Farmer's Market. Plan to putter in garden this afternoon and plan menus for the week. Take care all.

EDIT: Sticky translation very odd; have had to edit on the blog twice in that messages moved around between names.  Shall copy to Word next time!

  • Meant to say yesterday good wishes to all who aren't feeling too bright and those having ops and of couse Margos sister. Friend of Mums had cancer and ended up with a fantastic wig (and this was a good few years ago) Her Grandaughter used to love he to remove the wig and then would have a right good giggle.

Loved all the pics and laughed at Garys attempt to keep the technology Toffee free. It is amazing how much damage pups can do. Both Fingal and Dillon prefer their water from topped up watering can!!!!

MARGO  that sounds like just the sort of Chinese meal I would have. We will be going to Rocpool and probably an Italian in Dornoch this week. Wasn.t yet well enough for church this am but we were asked for lunch with the lovely minister and his wife late next month It will be a bring and share so I will have to consult with Morag if she wants main or pud. Our church do this on this on 1st Sun of the month and It is very popular I must think of something else to make as I tend to stick to making Tuna Waldorf and am starting to feel guilty.
