I've asked a couple of times on the Blog but it must've been missed as no-one answered.
It's often been mentioned that the ospreys fish at the fish farm. Now I know they deliberately leave two pens open especially for the ospreys but when we were there feeding the fish (son was, we were looking skywards!) the only pens we could see that were open were the ones beside the one where you feed the fish. Do the ospreys fish in these? They're pretty small. Surely the Ospreys don’t fish in them?? If they do that would be a fantastic thing to see. When we were there the other week after visiting Loch Garten we saw a couple of ospreys flying around but neither did any fishing. Saying that we think one caught a fish in the loch behind the trees but we didn’t see it happen....because it was behind the trees! We're hoping to visit Loch Garten next week and hope to also visit Rothiemurcus in the hope of seeing fishing ospreys.
Make the most of today because, unlike Sky+, there isn't a rewind button.
Best place to see fishing Ospreys is at Findhorn Bay near Forres. Get there as the tide is starting to come in, sit outside the Kimberly Inn with a drink and your binoculars and watch them splashing into the bay infront of you. Fantastic place, good food in the pub as well, and there is no one ripping you off like they do at Rothiemurcus
Great tip, thank you. I will remember that the next time we're up that way en-route to Thurso :)
