I am not sure if we should have separate threads for Rothes and Mallachie. If people feel we should the best start them right away.
The first data has been published on Google Earth and immediately it is amazing how much further Rothes has flown that Mallachie.

Google earth has been updated to show Mallachie's position at 6pm yesterday
I could never accept that the blocks of water near where Rothes was roosting were part of a a sturgeon farm as I believe that to be further in land where there is less risk of flooding,
Therefore, when I found myself with an hour to spare this afternoon I went in search of more info about the area and came up with this map.
I then looked up Port Maubert on Google to check I was in the right area. Then checked les etiers. Translated a page and came up with this info.

Very interesting for me as it is the sort of thing I have a computer for but also for those watching Rothes.

Thanks that's interesting - it's amazing what you can find yourself googling. We know the sturgeon farm is at this location, because Dr Alan Jones has confirmed that to Richard, after looking at this site and GE. I suspect the locality name of Les Etiers, is a reminder of a previous use of the land i.e. the fish farm was constructed by adapting an old salt works. There has indeed been a flood which affected the sturgeon farm in 1999 - I found this extract from a news article.......
Russian sturgeon flee fish farm
A HUNT is on in south-west France for thousands of Siberian sturgeon which have escaped from a local fish farm belonging to a British entrepreneur. Some 8,000 sturgeon disappeared from Alan Jones' fish farm at Saint-Fort-sur-Gironde, near Bordeaux, following the storms which ravaged the country two months ago. Heavy rainfall caused the level of the river Gironde to rise to unprecedented levels, flooding the tanks where the valuable fish were kept, before washing them into the local estuary. When the water levels returned to normal, an intensive search of the regions' rivers and the Gironde estuary by staff got under way. So far, 1,000 survivors have been found, although many were in poor ...(end of extract)
Also, on the map, it looks like there are some paths leading into the wood where Rothes roosts. I wonder if Caberfeidh is reading this thread - she was talking about going down there for another try at locating her.
Ya dancer . Mallachie has crossed the channel. So much relief after what happened to poor Deshar last year.

Alan it looks like there are lots of river systems in the area she roosted near Fonguesemare when you put it into GE and zoom out a little including the mouth of the Seine at Le Havre

Forgive me every one for this but now I know why IR has not been blogging. They have been busy organising a prison break and helping a certain bird high-tail it across to France!
Thanks Carol you are the only one who sussed it out.
Alan so good Mallachie has got it right. I remember when Deshar left these shores last year we almost knew something sad was going to happen even though we all prayed it wouldn't. She flew over Hampshire and I am in Dorset and had spent an awful lot of time watching hoping I would see her. I am surprised at how quickly she moved on and at least that is the first hazard crossed.

Funny you should say that as I lived in a place called Marple for 5 years as a teenager. It's in Cheshire near Stockport!
