Weekly Chat, Sunday February 6, 2011

Hi everyone.

Welcome to another week.  A week that brings us closer to the return of the Ospreys.  Hooray!

Happy Sunday!

Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • evening everyone

I am "coping" with Miss Toffee Ok i think, while OH away. 9well, we are both alive. Never had a puppy before. what an eye opener.!!)

So, can't really respond to all but enjoyed a quick skim of the posts and photo's.

Aunite, what a great photo and the quality is incredible

Linda, Toffeetips is nice but I haven't budged from my pet name for her........ lolol

OG, I do plough "small' amounts and do around the house and up to the barn and muck pile but we have a long drive so not feasible to do it all. In fact the ploughing bill came in for jan at $450 (nice times) Gulp!

Emma, great to see you and sorry you are doing the extra.

Anyway, I've enjoyed reading all the posts , may have more time tomorrow when "The Boss' returns

  • Annette - Yesterday was dry heat, but it went higher than expected, up to 37.5C. Overnight we had 3 light sprinkles of rain. This morn temp was hovering around 25 C and 93% humidity. Later the rain set in, unpleasant & sticky. This rain is what was Cyclone Yasi finally reaching us as a "low".

My father always had a Border Collie as sheepdog because they were so intelligent. He named them either Lassie or Rover, depending on sex, until a child (me) romantically named one puppy "Bonnie Lassie" - she was shortened to Bonnie, spoiling his naming pattern.

OG - Well done! you came home with lotsa goodies. I like to buy chutney or local produce when we visit country towns. Tastes better than supermarket stuff, tho’ OH cannot be budged from Rosella tomato sauce. (Rosella = brand name, not contents. LOL)

Various websites give the following diets for blue-tongue lizards "a wide variety of insects, gastropods, flowers, fruits and berries" or "snails, slugs, caterpillars and beetles" or "insects, seeds, daisy flowerheads and small fruit".

    Friday Smiles
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow is not looking good either.
I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.
I don't have an attitude problem; you have a perception problem.
    I don't suffer from stress. I am a carrier.

  • Evening all:

Auntie: Those eagles look very indignant about something, but their companion (perched on that snow block apparently) seems more interested in what's in front of him.

diibnlib/Wendy:  Nice that you got together and had a good natter.

Lindybird:  Hope you're couging even better tomorrow!  Gosh - your Mom sounds like mine, hiding her money in the tea towels (are we related?)  :-)

Margobird:  I guess our parents' generation trusted their books and tea towels more than the banks as places to stash their cash. Glad you got your water heater sorted out - an early too.

Wendy: Daisy May looks very serious about her new bed!

OG: I watched Trucker Steve quite a bit today - I've driven those highways, especially the I-5 north out of L.A., quite a lot and get such a wonderful sense of freedom when I'm out on the road (under those big wide blue skies!).  I remember you saying something months ago about washing flower pots and I have a whole bunch of dirty ones I have to clean out; shall I send them along?

dibnlib: I saw a telly program eons ago about some place, run by the government I think, that specializes in "reconstructing" dollar bills damaged in floods, fires, etc.  Fascinating what they can do with just a few scraps.

Trish: Oh dear - do you have to spell out words like w-a-l-k in front of your BC so she doesn't get all excited. Interesting about her fear of various words; wonder how that started.

George: So nice that Diesel is settling in.

jsb: I've never tried that business with the logins - I have just one e-mail address, but have friends who have different e-mails for various purposes. Don't think I could keep up with more than one.  I do have a securitiy program that screens all incoming mail for various threats- and I never open a mail whose origin I don't recognize.

Heather: I lived just outside London and never saw many of the sights; ditto Los Angeles - we assume we have all the time in the world to visit those places coz they're so close, but then never seem to get around to it.  Before my OH and I left LA we made a list of things we wanted to do/see around the city and got all done except one.   Sorry to hear that your SiL had flashbacks - do hope he doesn't have to go back there.

Lynette: Saw something on the news about being able to see the far side of the suns thanks to satellites, but only as I was passing by the telly. Will look into it on the 'net.

Gary: Sounds like Miss Toffee is keep you busy.   Wow - ploughing bills, eh?  Never thought about that.

AQ:  Hope Yasi has departed and taken the humidity with her Thanks for Friday smiles!  :-)

    Take care all.

  • Annette: I am like your friends in using multiple addresses, then when the mail comes in it gets sorted like a real post office, by MS Outloook into various folders in the inbox. That way one can pick the folder wanted.

About the scams, designed to fool you, here is a scam reporting website. Some attempts are amateurish, others fool a lot of people.

  • ‘Morning all!  Hoping to do today the errand we missed Monday waiting in for courier – over the border to garden centre for fish tank supplies (yes, Terry, that will be Houghton Hall, because they have a branch of Maidenhead Aquatics) and back via Asda for food.

Lynette – thanks for captures as usual.  Don’t know how those Hummers are hanging on in there!

Gary – pleased to hear that Miss Toffee has kept you in order while “home alone”!

AQ – oh, the swing in temps and humidity – yukk!  Maybe you’ll get more comfortable weather now Yasi is out the way.  Bonnie is quite a popular name for Collies over here.  I do make some chutneys, but we like to buy local when out and about, or to support good causes.  Pleased you explained the brand name of the sauce – got me worried at first – though I pictured it as a tomato sauce to serve with Rosella kebabs!!  Lived your Friday smiles – especially the middle two!

Annette – I think our dirty flowerpots breed when OH puts them by to wash them “some day”!  I hate all the jobs which can be done anytime – “anytime” never seems to come!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • ANNETTE I read about "Chaser" in paper. An amazing dog with a larger vocabulary than some people.

  • Morning all,

george g : I am glad that Diesel is settling down and it sounds like you had a nice walk. Strange about the camera though. It must remind him of something unpleasant in his past.

Wendyb : Sound like weather is a bit better in Speyside and gritting seems unnecessary. Maybe they know something that we dont.

Alicat : Those hummers are good to go. If I remember rightly, fledging is instantaneous. I notice there were over 2,500 watching last night. If they blink they will miss it.

HeatherB : Really nice to see you on here again. Amazed that you haven't been to Loch Garten when you live so close.

OG : I was surprised that your OH was doing the wood staining already. It made me feel guilty about outside painting jobs that are pending. I stll think I will wait a month or 2 yet.

BrendaH : Sorry you had such a wet day yesterday. It was not much better here with rain at times.

Gary : Glad you are having a nice time with Toffee. That was some bill for the snow ploughing.

Lynette : Thanks for all the screenshots. Nice work.

JSB : I have 2 or 3 e mail addresses but I  only use 1 most of the time. I have not had many problems with trojans etc. My firewall and virus protection seems to be quite effective.

AQ : That heat and humidity sounds mighty unpleasant to me. Hope it cools down soon. Thanks for the friday smiles.

Annette : I hope you enjoyed your time at the rose garden. We prune our roses in March before growth starts in earnest.

Thanks to everyone else who has posted.

Weather today started off damp but now the sun is out and it looks springlike once again. Current temp 8.3c and rising.

  • Good Morning ALL. Still raining here and quite mild.

Heather, Sorry to hear that your SiL has still been suffering from flashbacks but congratulations to him on his promotion. It must have been a very difficult time for your daughter as well as for him.

Gary, I didn't realise that you had never had a puppy before. They can be hard work but most enjoyable. I would think there will be plenty of help from your friends when it comes to training Toffee. Hope the snow stops and then you will receive no more snow clearing bills. Those people must have made a fortune this winter.

AQ, Thanks for the Friday smiles. I like No. 3 the most. Hope your weather becomes more comfortable for you.

JSB, I have just two e- mail addresses but as Alan says, the security systems seem to cope. Always careful about what e-mails I open.

Trying desperately to keep up with all your posts. Thanks and do enjoy Friday.

  • Hello aquilareen  your weather sounds terribly uncomfortable, such high humidity.   I would be like a limp rag in all that heat, dry heat not too bad but humidity really gets to me.

Love the Friday Smiles, nice to start the week with Lindybird's and now finish to the week with yours.

  • Hi Annette have to say can't speak too highly of British Gas. Have had three ocassions to call them out and their engineers always very helpful and cheerful.  They get a lot of criticism but I can only speak as I find.  I did thank him before he left and he was so pleased and said it was nice when people did that.

You are right about living somewhere but not taking in the local sights.  We have lived in Dorset for over 20 years and thare still places that we say we must visit but haven't done so yet.

    Have a good weekend.
