Evening all: Don't miss the last couple of pages of last week's chat. Gary's been at it again, posting incredibly cute puppy pix!
OG: Yes, Los Carneros means "the rams" in Spanish; while La Patera (the original ranch that Los Carneros was on) is "the place where the ducks gather." In the 1700s, after the Spanish settled here, it was cattle country; then in the 1860s,about a decade after California became a state, folks from back East started bringing in sheep, which survived periods of drought better than cattle and whose wool was in demand by eastern and southern states during the Civil War when the cotton industry was decimated. Anyway, in the 1870s, the American family that owned Rancho La Patera planted the first commercial lemon orchard in the state (or the Goleta Valley depending on which source you read). I drive to Costco along Cathedral Oaks Blvd - which runs north of Lake Los Carneros - past huge citrus orchards and the remaining acreage of Rancho La Patera. As for the vineyards, they're over the hills behind Santa Barbara in the higher, dryer Santa Ynez Valley. All very complicated.
Gary: Never been to Yellowstone - was heading that way one October but an early snowfall blocked the Western entry so had to "make do" with Grand Teton National park. Sigh. If you're looking for somewhere to stay, you can always visit TripAdvisor and read everyone's reviews of the options.
OK guys, off to do a crossword and watch some rubbish on telly. Take care ALL.
Hi Annette your story about your friend's grandfather made me chuckle. So pleased I am not alone in getting confusted when I get out of bed sometimes. My OH thinks I am a bit careless when I keep crashing into things, some of it is to do with bad eyesight and I am never without a bruise somewhere. The latest bruise covering me from my elbow up to just below my shoulder has just about disappeared but has it has taken 3 weeks. Have no idea how I did this and OH said I must have felt some pain when I did it but I think I am so used to bumping into things that I really don't notice when I do. Way of life for me.

Diane thanks for the update on the Coopers Hawk so glad they have managed to rescue her.
Gary that puppy is just gorgeous, how could anyone resist wanting it. They ae growing fast too.
Good morning Lynette and great captures from the Estonia cam, especially the fox. Of course I always love the captures of Phoebe too. Have just watched the video from Lily's den and you can clearly see a cub and Lily and Hope. Cam down again at the moment, think the extremely cold weather they have is causing some problems.
Just seen your captures from Lily's den, so sweet.
Good morning SheilaFE and I agree with what you say about Nadal. He is a perfect gentleman. I believe he still goes home to Mum when he can as well. I guess when you play as hard as he does suffering an infury is always going to be on the cards. They have a long season but this year will not be quite so long as they are being given extra time to rest between tournaments.
When you went to Mull did you see the eagles? After my LG volunteering week this year I think I might put this on my list of things I have to do.
ALICAT thanks for the link to Lily and her cubs. Shame the cam is down again.
Lindbybird thanks for your film review. Sound like a very interesting film. OH and I don't go to the pictures as I usually embarrass him and myself by going to sleep. Something to do with being in the dark I think. Will have to see if Sky will pick it up and will watch it then with a light on. We have been to see Swan Lake a couple of times now and the music usually brings tears to my eyes as it is just wonderful.
Had a job getting on here again - maybe that's why there have not been any postings since margo's at 11.30ish!
Just been to visit OH's Aged Auntie - she was so pleased with some new pics of Sweetpea, even though she has two grandchildren and two great grandchildren of her own! Dog was not with us as we had been to a nearby appointment, so he missed out on his usual biscuit or two.
This is very slow to post, so something is def. up with the site today...
ps. very cold indeed, in the wind from the North, today - wrap up well, all in UK!
