Evening all: Don't miss the last couple of pages of last week's chat. Gary's been at it again, posting incredibly cute puppy pix!
OG: Yes, Los Carneros means "the rams" in Spanish; while La Patera (the original ranch that Los Carneros was on) is "the place where the ducks gather." In the 1700s, after the Spanish settled here, it was cattle country; then in the 1860s,about a decade after California became a state, folks from back East started bringing in sheep, which survived periods of drought better than cattle and whose wool was in demand by eastern and southern states during the Civil War when the cotton industry was decimated. Anyway, in the 1870s, the American family that owned Rancho La Patera planted the first commercial lemon orchard in the state (or the Goleta Valley depending on which source you read). I drive to Costco along Cathedral Oaks Blvd - which runs north of Lake Los Carneros - past huge citrus orchards and the remaining acreage of Rancho La Patera. As for the vineyards, they're over the hills behind Santa Barbara in the higher, dryer Santa Ynez Valley. All very complicated.
Gary: Never been to Yellowstone - was heading that way one October but an early snowfall blocked the Western entry so had to "make do" with Grand Teton National park. Sigh. If you're looking for somewhere to stay, you can always visit TripAdvisor and read everyone's reviews of the options.
OK guys, off to do a crossword and watch some rubbish on telly. Take care ALL.
Meant to say sorry you have had a trip BrendaH M hope the swelling goes down soon and dibnlib great to see you have managed a walk.
Margobird
Have just been to fill up the feeders, and was rewarded by a close encounter with our resident Robin, who is so perky and attentive to what goes on. Have also cleaned my shoes, which seem to be gathering all the debris from the footpaths since there was a lot of grit thrown down in the bad weather. Don't blame the Council for leaving it there though, as there will probably (!) be some more snow before Jan/Feb are done with.... ugh.
Well Done Brenda for still winning the Quiz - you must be a formidable team! We missed out on a quiz this week as sis-in-law sent us an invitation to one, but it was on an email which I didn't read until afterwards!
Gary: Great films of the pups - I'd be no good as a dog breeder as I would not want to part with a single one, so I would soon be overrun! Lovely pic of your wife in the snow.
AQ: Glad that you got more than the usual teen grunt out of Miss14 - sometimes they forget to be grumpy and actually manage to have a normal conversation! Nice that you have what sound to be regular family get-togethers.
OG: We ruined our shredder by overworking it - resolved not to have another, and now save it all in a plastic bag - when there are 3 plastic bags full, my OH has a bonfire at the allotment. I did buy some of those 'shredding scissors' but keep forgetting where I put them!
dibnlib: Sorry to hear about your Mum. My mother had several bad strokes so I know what its like to 'lose' the person you love. OG is right and you are in mourning for the person that you knew who has already partly left. My mother was in care for over 9 years so I know how sad it is to see some of the other patients who have no visitors at all.
margo - thinking of you.
Must go and get changed - OH and I have decided its time we caught up, and had the Office Christmas Outing which was delayed at the time by the bad weather. This consists of All the Staff going for a lunch somewhere nice - All being him, and me! Will report later on what we ate. Have a Good Day, All.
ps: patriciat - Wonderful to hear that Tweed is recovered.
Afternoon all. Thanks for all the lovely comments about the video's. Lindy, I think the owners are finding it hard to think about sending them away now that the time is drawing near. They love the snow and would play in it forever. However they get cold easily so don't stay out too long. I haven't seen it, but to get them in, they just get the mum to stand in the doorway and bark and they all come running! LOLOL
Auntie, glad you're feeling better and I don't envy you your snow. I don't mind it now it's all cleared and just sitting there.
Linda, have a lovely lunch.
Diane/Annette, thanks for the info about Yellowstone. Some good advice. I haven't started looking yet and have saved the links.
AQ, sorry about the heat and glad things are a bit easier with Miss 14.
OG, hope the church service was nice.
Patriciat, glad Tweed made a full and speedy recovery:)
Lynette, thanks for all the cam screen shots. You are such an expert at that:)
ChrisyB, hope the cams worked and hope you ignored my advice and took the better stuff! lolol
Brenda, hope the foot recovers soon
OK, off into the chilly morning to sort out my lot. Having some hay delivered later so that should warm me up a bit
Happy Sunday everyone
Eagles have just mated at NBG:
BRENDA Sorry to hear about your foot. Do hope swelling goes down soon and you can get all your shoes on again.

Thank you Alicat, I could actually see the new arrival and attention being paid by its sister? Everytime i have looked previously all I could see was a black screen!
Just been watching Paul Foster beat Alex Marshall in the first all Scottish final of the World Indoor Bowls Championship. It was just so nice not to be biased for a change. Needless to say Scotland won. LOL
"nice not to be biased for a change..." Heh Heh, Alan! Glad Scotland won! And Andy Murray is winnning so far in Australia, too!
Thanks to Alicat for link to video of Lily and her brood - such a lovely bit of film, and so nice to see that Hope seems to be enjoying them, too. We shall be gripped by watching their progress, now.
We had a really nice meal out - went to an old coaching Inn not too far from here, and had their Sunday Lunch Special, which consisted of 3 meats - Roast Beef, Turkey & Ham, all on a plate with oven roasted vegetables and all the trimmings. Washed it down with a nice glass of White, and then were tempted into puddings - OH had profiteroles, but I tried to be good by having meringue with fruit, which turned out to be a nice little castle of meringue filled with cream and topped with berry fruits - yummie. Broke the diet rather, but what the heck, we enjoyed it! Said afterwards "That was the best Sunday Lunch I've eaten out in the last 10 years!" Will definitely be going back there sometime...
