Morning all:  Long day at the rose garden - poor Robert who supervises the volunteers has been fighting off a bug and a couple of us stayed on longer than usual to help him clean up stuff.  I'm sure I'll be stiff tomorrow. Not as many folks showed up as last year and some of the beds were pruned by city employees which means we'll have to go over those beds again since they did a fairly perfunctory job.

Watching Mad Men (Netflix rental video of first season).  Great viewing when you're too tired to think. Take care all and have a nice Sunday.

  • Morning all. Been reading but not posting.  Can't possibly reply to all the great posts.  Thanks for all the great pics.

Diane Welcome back.  Dandy is just lovely.  I agree with WendyB that she looks quite like Daisy May, and also that English Bull Terriers get a bad press.  Any i have met have been lovely, soppy darlings!  Do get your garden securely fenced, so that you can have her (or another like her) - they are such good company.

We had a lovely bright day yesterday, though cold, and today is starting out the same way.  Great to have the benefit of the longer days.  Have a good day, everyone.

  • ALAN  love the owl story  and  good that it will be fine thanks to the lady who spotted it.  My next comment of course is why do people not dispose of litter properly.  Our woods have been not too bad but it is so sad when I see glass disgarded and am actually glad to see it whole and not smashed. The truth is that it shouldn't be there at all!

  • DIANE   hope you had a good holiday and thanks for pic of Dandy. Are you going to fence and get her after that is done?    Yes it is nearly a month since "stookie"  came off and the improvement is slow but steady though have been warned it will be many months before normal service is resumed.

  • Morning, Everyone.    White frost on top of the car roofs this morning, after a much colder night than of late here.

Wonderful news of Phoebe, and thanks for the photos, Kellogs.  Lets hope all will be well this time with her brood.

Welcome to sugar, who has been 'reading but not posting' - you are allowed to pop in and join us, you know! I'm sure you can see from the postings that we are a friendly bunch.

Annette:  Wish I could be there and see all those butterflies - sounds just wonderful.

Diane:  Glad you were welcomed back by your Hawk - he seems to know what is going on!  Not surprised that you were tempted to have a dog, Dandy looks just well, dandy, to me!

I have some housework to do, then off out on a jaunt with Friend as she's offered to buy me lunch, although we have already said that it must just be a tomato & a lettuce leaf, as we are both 'watching our figures' after all the festivities!  Have a Good Day, everyone.

  • dibnlib:   Was just thinking about you, and now we have 'overlapped' with our postings.  Hope that your recovery is swift, you deserve it to be as it sounds as if you have done all the right things.

  • Hi Everyone.

A very warm welcome to Sugar. :-)

Don't know where the last few days have sped off to.  I get the feeling this will be another quick year.  A very bright and pleasent day in this neck of the woods.  Had a Great Tit pay a visit, a few minutes ago.  He/she looked great in the winter sunshine.  That's a total of 16 bird spieces for the week so far.

Believe it or not there's another Heron77 in the world.  Well that's what I found out when creating a Twitter account, the other night.  So I had to conjur up the name pheron77.  I'm not that imaginative when it comes to usernames.

Thanks to everyone for all the posts and pics.  Great stuff as usual.  Absolutely delighted that one of Pheobe's eggs has hatched.

    Happy Wednesday!

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • It's a beautiful morning.  Frosty early but fantastic blue sky and sun now.  Just been for what should have been a good dog walk but they're shooting not far away and Mia is terrified of gunshots, fireworks, crop scarers....................she just refuses to move and has to be constantly coaxed along.  I've had to use all the words that get her excited in a silly high pitched voice to get her moving so it ended up being a very short walk which was much quicker once she knew we were heading home.  When does the shooting season end anyone?

  • Good Morning to ALL. Everywhere is white after a frost but the sun is trying to shine.

Alan, Our daffodils seem to have enjoyed the higher temperatures last week and have really put on a spurt. The ones in pots nearer the house walls, as you can imagine, are even higher. I would think they must be sitting in water after all the rain we have had. Love that story about the drunk owl.

Kelloggs, Thanks for your pics. and Phoebe's good news.

Hello Sugar, Lovely to see you on here.

Lynette, Thankyou for all your pics.

Annette, Your butterfly refuge sounds fantastic.

Diane, I think your big red tailed eagle has definitely adopted you. I hope the snow storm is not as bad as forecast. How much fencing would you need to make your land become 'dog proof' ? Love the photographs of Dandy. I can see why she wa pulling on your 'heart strings' to give her a home.

Patriciat, Good to see you and that all is well with you.

Dibnnlib, Hope your progress continues. As you say, it will take longer than you would wish.

Linda, Enjoy lunch with your friend.

Paul, I would have thought that Heron 77, would have been a unique name.

Must do a food shop as even the freezer is getting low.

  • Good mornng all from a very frosty Poole.  It was -4 when OH left for work this morning and bird baths frozen solid.  I got so cold filling up the trays and hanging feeders with food this morning.  The sun is out and sky is blue which is makes such a change to the way I feel and at least I can put more clothes on to combat the cold.

I got as close to Billy Whizz as I have ever done yesterday afternoon.  He was sitting about 3ft away from me and I was talking to him for about 20 minutes orso while he studied me very closely.  All done through my bedroom window. Up to now he has always run away when I open the window but he does seem to bea little less nervous.  When OH went out to do shopping last evening he was sitting in the drive and OH was chatting to him.  We have got very fond of him now and perhaps we will be able to encourage him to come indoors and make his home with us.  He is obviously enjoying the changeof food as it had all gone this morning along with the milk.

Lindbybird enjoy your outing with your friiend and do spoil yourself just a bit with the light lunch you will be having.

Alan  thanks for the link about the drunken owl.  Made me laugh but I bet he felt a bit under the weather and wondered what had happened to him.

Diane nice of the red tailed hawk to welcome you home. I am hoping that perhaps you will give Dandy a home. He obviously fell in love with you and he would be company for you.

Annette  pleased to see that you have been testing your new chair out.  How lovely to see so many Monarch butterflies.

Kellogs thanks for the beautiful capture of Phoebe feeding her little one.  Unsually I had logged in last evening as my OH was out at his Italian class.  Typically I missed the hatching, must have happened not long after I logged out.  Thanks too for the eagle pics and the update on the Dunedin osprey cam.  Hopefully they will be able to get it up and running soon.

Lynette lovely capture of the deer and also Phoebe.  What a stunning littlebird she is.

Sugar welcome to our group, they are a great bunch of people on here.  Thanks for the news about Phoebe's 1st chick hatching.  She is just lovely and when the sun shines her colours are beautiful.  How wonderful to have humming birds in the garden.  I am really impressed with the clarity of this webcam, it is one of the best..

Wishing all a good day and hope the sun is shining for you.

    Margobird

  • Good morning BrendaH hope the sun that is shining brightly here will reach you soon.  Very cold this morning and frost taking a while to clear but this is so much better than all that rain.
