Just back from Rutland Water. 52 fledged at 09:08 according to my laptop. I watched it on the webcam before going to Rutland. Did not see any more flying from the chicks while I was there possibly due to the enormous fish that 5R had brought in earlier. There was still some left on the nest when I left and none of the chicks were interested. Mrs 5R had a fly around amd dipped her talons in the water a couple of times while 5 R remained on his perch to the left of the nest.

fabolous pictures ALAN well done
Despite the murky webcam image, there is a HUGE flapping fish in the nest!
ALAN - thanks for the great pictures. We too were at Rutland this morning! It was our first visit to the Lyndon Reserve - we were impressed. The volunteers in the hide and centre were very helpful and informative and it was lovely to see the whole osprey family together. 52(11) was sitting proudly on the edge of the nest, 5R and Mrs 5R were watching from the perch. We were up at Loch Garten a couple of weeks ago so felt we should visit our 'local' nest as well.
Thanks Ruthie. We were in the Shallow Water hide from 10:30 to 11:40 approx. We go there rather than Waderscrape because I believe you can take better pics from there. Glad you enjoyed it. There is no better place in the country to watch ospreys. Just wait until all the chicks are flying, it will be brilliant.
33 (11) made its first flight at site B. This was reported 42 minutes ago on Facebook.

Thanks Tiger. They have also tweeted that 32(11) is very close to fledging at Manton Bay.
Hi all message for Alan
I am visiting Oakham next weekend - the people I am staying with said there are many local places to see the Ospreys not just the reserve. In your opinion where is the best place?
Harelady: The only place that you're guaranteed to see ospreys is the Lyndon Reserve at Rutland Water. With one fledged and the other two chicks about to take to the skies any time now you simply have to visit Manton Bay.
Harelady : Sandy Is absolutely right. Manton Bay on the Lyndon Reserve is the best and only place where you are guaranteed to see ospreys. It promises to be an exciting weekend with one chick fledged and 2 more almost certain to fly in the next few days and if you are really lucky you may see 5R fishing right in front of the hides.
