Identifying the Manton Bay pair.....The male 5R has a green ring on his right leg. Assuming the female is the same as last year, she will be unringed.
Rutland twitter feed has just confirmed that the female is the same as last year.
Vespa Crabro - thats nice to know that she has returned to the same nest.

Thanks for that, Alan. Absolutely fantastic news about the Manton Bay pair. Can't wait to get down there and see them! Nest is empty at the moment but I see they've already made a deeper nest cup than last year.
Alan thanks for the link to Rutland update. All settled and back to normal now and maybe eggs in a couple of weeks.
Just watched 5R bring in a headless fish and Mrs 5R flew off with it. These 2 are really together and it's all looking good so far.
just looked in and caught female doing some furniture removing a little while ago and as I write the female lands on the nest again. She's flown off again.
