Busy all day - will catch up tomorrow. Have a good Sunday all (don't forget to check last pages of previous thread. Somebody has been posting photos of puppies again!)
Photo of my pet with his pet (or one of them) well worn ted called Paddy because of his enormous paws. Paddy a bit worse for wear and oft stitched up, but still much loved as you can see!!!!
Morning all,
Kellogs : Thanks for all the links, pics and the egg news from Blackwater.
Annette : There are always bits left over when you construct something with bits of wood. We prune our roses in March when the weather is a little warmer allegedly.
LInda : I hope that your sore throat gets better for the weekend trip to see your grandson.
Margo : Thanks for the starlings link - amazing.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat. it is getting hard to keep up with all the replies
Weather is mild and dull after the 3rd night of overnight rain. Temp is at 11.4c. It was actually at 11.5c at 3a.m. which must be some kind of a record for a January night. Bird bath is overflowing with water but our little robin did not mind and had a nice bath, splashing around this morning. We have had starlings, collared doves and a blackbird around this morning but no goldfinches for a while now.
Low grey but bustling clouds today and a slight breeze, but underfoot it looks very wet. I haven't put my nose out of the door yet, but thought I'd pop in to say hello before I go to a funeral - I succeeded her at work in 1991. Another who has sadly succumbed to cancer. She was very much of the old school, and highly thought of by those with whom she came in contact.
I love your 'little gem' AQ, although in all honesty "two bags of potato chips and a chocolate cake" is not my idea of heaven! I am more a savoury type of person and rarely eat potato chips - I take it the latter is what we might call crisps? However, I have been known to enjoy the odd slice of chocolate cake!
Annette since when has anyone had to apologise for the content of their posts!! It is always lovely to hear your stories and life in SoCal! It sounds as though your day was a highly successful and productive day - at last! So the desk is a desk, the garden is looking like a garden and you have increased your knowledge in the art of pruning roses, what more could a girl need in a day! Oh, and it looks as though you might be getting your TV back - now all you have to do is to find a programme you actually want to watch. You highlighted the use of 'chemist' and 'pharmacist' from me, and also DjoanS. In my case I did mean pharmacist - a health professional trained in the art of preparing and dispensing drugs - who would usually work in a Chemist or a pharmacy at a hospital. In my case I spoke to the visiting pharmacist at the GP surgery used by aged Aunt, and she was more helpful than the GP himself.
Lindybird thank you for the film review - a very eloquent and descriptive review too, if I may say so! A new career looming for your local rag perhaps?? This is definitely on my 'to see' list, either in the cinema or when it comes out in DVD. I missed the opportunity of going to Cambridge with my near neighbour recently - tied up with Aunty in one way or another - and she recommended it as fully as you. I hope your sore throat does not develop and you do manage to get to see Sweetpea.
Kelloggs thanks for the link to the Blackwater Eagle Nest. There are so many links/web cams etc to check out, I could easily spend all day sitting at the laptop.
dibnlib what an amazing life you have led, a really interesting job giving you the opportunity of travelling to so may interesting places. I would love to visit the Falklands - I feel that the folk living there must be very courageous and hardy, not dissimilar to island folk living around our shores, and abundant wildlife. Lovely photo of Dillon and his friend.
Like Alan I tend to prune my roses mid-to late March, when it is not only warmer (?) but the bud have just started to move helping me to decide where to cut. We are usually away for the first two weeks in March anyway....
A long tailed tit and goldfinch on the feeders this morning, along with the usual suspects.
See you later.

Hi Annette your post are always interesting to read. You seem to pack so much into your life. Glad the garden is coming along nicely now after the upheaval.
We have had constant rain all this week but try not to moan too much about it as Australia and Brazil are suffering so much. My lawn would make a good pond for any ducks in the vicinity but if we do get some dry weather next week it will not take too long for it to dry out a bit.
I would have beern worried about going away and leaving Billy Whizz to fend for himself so was really happy when OH said we will get someone to come in and leave food and milk out for him. I suspect he will be quite happy to accept food from anyone and will not even notice we are not here.
We ae going to Viareggio which is on the Tuscan coast. They have a carnival every year and we kept saying we should go and see it so will be off for 4 days in March. We go to this resort every other year as it is one of our favourite places. Totally spoit this year as we are going to Florence for a few days in May and then just outside Sorrento in September. We love everything about Italy and even though we speak about going to another country we still choose Italy. So much to see and of course wonderful food.

Good morning from yet another very wet day here in Poole. Thought they said it was going to clear up but as yet it is still raining quite hard and very dark. At least it is very mild.
SheilaFE sorry to read about your friend who has passed away with cancer. So many people still dying from this dreadful disease. I do hope the weather will be a bit brighter on what will be a sad day.
Pleased to read that you are making some progress with your Aunt. Hope things will come together and she will accept any help she can be given.
Alan thanks for the pic of the eagle with egg and also for the news of the eagle chick hatching. I have to say I have never seen a robin taking a bath in my garden. The sparrows and starlings and ocassionally the balckbird use the bird bath. All through that very cold weather the sparrows especially bathed every day, one it got it defrosted. Shame about the goldfinches not visiting anymore.
dibnlib lovely pic of Dillon with his teddy. What a beautiful dog he is. You and your OH have led vviously ery interesting lives and have obviously travelled extensively.
Lindybird so sorry you have a sore throat. Hope it will improve so you can visit Sweet Pea. Pleased you enjoyed the film so much and what a very good review you have given. You are such a talent with words. Hope Saibsbury shopping will not be too stressful.
AQ just love the quote, Think we have all been there with chocolate and crisps. Pleased to see that the flood waters are receding a bit now but it will be a long time before things are normal for all the poor folk that have lost everything. I think I heard this morning though that more rain is expected. Makes me realise how lucky we are in the UK on the whole with extremes of weather. It has just about rained non-stop here for the past 5 days but at least we have no floods, not here anyway although I believe there are rivers in the UK that are on flood alert.
Lynette love all the pics of Phoebe (possibly Phoeb2) that you post. What glorious colours she has. Don't often get to see her as I have usually turned PC off before it gets light at the nest. Good that she has 2 eggs now.
Heron 77 nice to see you and I agree watching birds does make you feel happy. We have had rain most of this week but when I go out in the garden I just listen to all the sparrows chirping away even though they must be soaking wet. For all that though they still have their daily baths along with the starlings who amuse me no end with their antics.
Spoke to my sister this morning and she sounds very cheerful and is even managing to do a bit of ironing. Doesn't do it for long but she is pleased that she can at least do something. Still going for the paper each day unless it is raining and then her OH tells her she musn't go out in it. Hospital appointments next week to find out when here treatment will start and she will also be finding out about the lump that has appeared on her leg. My fingers are tightly crossed that perhaps this is nothing to worry about.
Off to Rhys' birthday party tomorrow afternoon which I am looking forward to. We gave him a plastic drum with sticks, together with other things that make a noise, it all came with the drum from M&S. Apparently he loves the drum but I bet my niece and husband are not finding it so enjoyable.
Sunday we are off to see a friend and have lunch and maybe a walk if it ever stops raining here.
Have a good Friday all.
Good morning Kellogs and thankyou for your newsy post. Glad you have survived the storm but what terribly fierce winds. thanks for all the lnks and I do hope the tiger cub will make it. Always so sad when a Mum rejects her baby. I look at the penguin cam regularly but thanks for putting the capture on as when I look there is never one close enough to the camera. Interesting that this might not be the Phoebe from last year but thanks for proving with your pic that there are now 2 eggs. Hope they will hatch and fledge safely.
Alan thanks for the link to the video of the eagle and also the capture of the peregrine at Derby.
