Weekly Chat, Sunday January 9, 2010

Busy all day - will catch up tomorrow. Have a good Sunday all (don't forget to check last pages of previous thread. Somebody has been posting photos of puppies again!)

  • Morning all ... wet and dark here today ... not cold though.

margobird ... sorry to read of the distressing time for your sister's husband ... these things are so hard to cope with, even with the best of support, and it sounds as if he hasn't had that. I hope for better news and some improvement for her ... more hugs for you!   Shame about Lola disappearing ... I wonder if we will ever know what happened to her. Excellent news about the white-tailed eagle ... magnificent birds ... we had one in north Northumberland last year for a while.

OG - lovely photo of the gull ... we get lots here, but they never land in the gardens ...or on the roof ... they seem to prefer the houses rather than the bungalows! I didn't get many of my sorting jobs done :-( ... I started on my crafting stuff ... and kept on stopping to 'play' with the stuff I found!!!!

Lynette - thinking of you with your dentist visit today ... hope the extraction is not too painful.

Wendyb - lucky you to see a red squirrel in your garden ... hope it returns. We get them in the woods near here and they are so beautiful ... especially when the sun shines on their fur ... and I love their ear tufts!!

Brenda H - fingers crossed for good weather for you on Friday ... these things are hard enough without the weather interfering.

george g - sorry you have been kept indoors by the conditions. I would echo what others have said about getting a dog ... there are organisations that will arrange for care if you are not around, or cannot cope, and it would give you both so much pleasure!

Must go and do something useful now! Thanks to everyone else for chat etc.

    Take care.

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Good morning Alan thanks for the link to Simon King's new website, will have a good look at that later.

We have sun now after a nght of very heavy rain but more rain forecast for the rest of the week unfortunately.

Had a look in this morning at Lily and Hope cam but it seems very blurred at present.   The way they are talking it seems pretty sure that Hope will have cub/s soon.

  • Good morning DjoanS and thank you for your kind words.  It has been a torrid time for my sister's husband, it is no wonder he has lost a lot of weight as well.  Hoping that he will get some satisfactory answers now to all his queries over the way things have gone.

Can't get to the New Forest this weekend which is a shame because I would love to see the eagle.  Rhys is a year old on Friday but having his party on Saturday so we will be going there.  Sunday we are going out to lunch with a friend so don't think we can manage to get there.

    Margobird

  • Screenshot of eagle on Estonian webcam. There were 4 there at one time but just missed getting a shot of all 4. They have all gone now:

  • Good afternoon dibnlib and good news that you have been discharged from the hospital.  It will take time for the swelling to do down but hope you manage to buy the boots.

Was reading about postal deliveries and have to add that I received a Christmas card yesterday so goodness knows where that has been all this time.

    Margobird

  • MARGO  Yes I did treat myself to boots, £65 instead of £90 and they are Columbia mid boots which are my favourite brand and style so well pleased.

To add to what everyone else has had to say about the floods in Oz. Flooding on such a scale is impossible to imagine and we feel so sad for all involved.

  • Dry and sunny.  I see there has been new snow in Borders Region – around and north of Selkirk.  Going to Chiropodist at 3pm, so having early coffee at home so that we aren’t tempted by the coffee lounge!  Watched first part of Just William last evening, and then final part of Turn Back Time – The High Street.

Brenda – don’t get the impression that our Son is living it up in the City of Inverness every night – he is just spending time with friends from church (where he feels safe), but this is so much better than when he was beginning to get reclusive.  I hope you will not have any airport of flight difficulties for Friday.

Lynette – sorry you have to have builder back for the hot water yet again.  I hope you are recovering from the trip to the dentist this morning and that it wasn’t too uncomfortable.

AQ - Queensland flood situation seems to be getting worse rather than better – pleased you are in SA, even if it is hot at times.

Annette – hope desk will get successfully completed today, and that it is a better day all round.

Wendy – Son drove from Grantown to Carrbridge Fri night and said road was pretty bad – and several cars have been off the roundabout at southern exit of Grantown – so you are best staying put.  How wonderful that the Squirrel has come out of the woodland and onto your lawn – keep those peanuts filled up!  It’s good to be able to start planning spring trips, especially when it is so long since you visited the Daughters – did they ever receive their Christmas parcels?  We had a Christmas card today – but it was all the way from Thailand!

Lindy – sorry about the bad night - hope you last the day ok!

Dibnlib – so pleased the hospital released you – now look after yourself when it’s at all snowy, wet, slippery, uneven etc underfoot!  Pleased you got the boots you so much wanted.  Stay safe in them!

Margo – still thinking and praying.  I hope they get on and make Sister’s mask soon, so radiotherapy can begin – it helps just to know something is being done.  Bear centre mentioned someone thought they heard a new cub for Lily in the den Sunday – and I thought I saw it last night, but haven’t been back to read update.

Joan – pleased you had fun crafting, even if you didn’t do all the practical things you intended to!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Morning all:

Wendy:  Hire a kid?  Brilliant!  I'll suggest it to OH.  Good for you seeing the red squirrel - what a treat.

Lindybird: Our landscaper dude seemed impatient and irritable yesterday - so not looking forward to dealing with him today. From my perspective, he seems to assume we know how things will progress, but I've never "owned" a dry stone wall before or graded a garden so have the feeling I'm asking too many questions about the end result.  I don't want to have to "climb" over an uneven rocky wall to weed the bed and have indicated I'd prefer a smaller border-type arrangement, but this seems to be creating aggro.  Also, there's the usual language problem, with the crew Spanish-speaking, the supervisor bilingual but not fluent, and the landscaper fluent but not on site all day. Sigh. Have call in to lady who helped with the design to run questions by her; she's very helpful.

Lynette:  Hope extraction hasn't left you looking like a hampster!

AQ: Now Brisbane being evacuated?  It's just awful.

Alan: It's all the stuff I need to reference when I'm on the laptop that demands a dedicated space (piles of wood still on "office" floor but desk drawers are done!)  Can't complain about OH's piles when mine are stacked in various places. :-)

BrendaH.  Hope weather holds for not-fun weekend. Take care. Yes, landscape project was just one of several "out of the blue" problems we had to deal with yesterday. Still, today's a new day.

Margo: Good news re the white-tailed eagle. Loved one person's description of it as a "flying barn door."  :-)  Too bad you can't make the drive to try to see it - but Rhys a year old???  Geez Louise. Where does the time go?   Do hope communication with hospital will be better for BiL.  I read that note about Lola and Lincoln's worry that she's been poisoned and that the authorities are covering it up; he has no proof as he says, but seems to have good reason not to trust them.  And  yes, you're so right about not taking any day for granted....

dibnlib: Hope you can dump those crutches soon.  Hurray - you got the boots - Columbia (if it's the same company) make very good outdoor stuff.

Must make sure I get breakfast this morning as it was noon yesterday before OH and I looked at each other and wondered where the morning had gone!  Off to investigate options and maybe go back to bed with a nice bowl of oatmeal (porridge?) and a book.  Have offered to drive grandson to dentist today as daughter has other commitments and he can't miss the appointment. Never ends, does it....

  • Hi all OH Finally passed his module 1 motor bike test yesterday just has to do the module 2 now had a go at it yesterday and failed that part he is now rebooked in for 10 days time you can't retake it for 10 days
