Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 5 January 2025

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I apologize, folks. I usually like to start the week with a positive, uplifting post, but I'm not in a good mood this evening.

My area is under a major Winter Storm Warning for tomorrow and Monday. This is a massive storm that will stretch 1,300 miles and affect 62 million people. My region of Indiana is in the swath predicted to get the most snow. For some reason, the National Weather Service has been unable to pinpoint the track, snow totals, and ice accumulation for central Indiana, but it appears that I could get over a foot of snow (31 centimeters). We've been warned that travel may be impossible, power outages will occur, and high winds may cause extensive drifting.

After the storm, the polar vortex will settle here and bring dangerous arctic cold. I'm worried that my roof can't hold that much snow, plus my old house will get too cold.

I stocked up on groceries and water today.

Annette said that the UK is also expecting bad weather. I wish you all well.

Love and hugs to all.

  • Diane - Thinking about you and hoping the forecasters have got it wrong ... they often do.  I have just woken up (1.30am) to a white world - full coverage of snow but not very thick.  The temperature is 4 degrees at the moment so I don't think it will be there for very long.  I hope not - I've got a longish and not straightforward drive in the morning which I can't avoid.  Nothing like what's predicted for you - thoughts and prayers winging their way to you and your area.

  • Thanks, Pat. Drive carefully and be safe.

  • Diane:  I was hoping you might miss the worst. How frustating that they cant track it better.  Spoke to a friend in Kansas City this  morning and they were expecting 12" inches of snow.   Meanwhile, we've had no rain at all while northern California, Oregon and Washington are getting it all.

PatO;  Hope the weather has settled by the morning.  Do take care!

  •  DIANE - Sometimes I think forecasters are no more accurate than they were in the old days when they had no instruments, etc. Thinking of you and sending some of our heat to counter all that snow.

I have just (3.15 pm) given in and turned on the air con. It is 31 C and humid. Late showers expected this eve but that will only make it feel worse. I am hibernating.

  • Thank you DIANE for starting the week. I will be thinking about you and  your home - sending warm hugs.

  • @Diane. BLESS you, thoughts and Prayers  to keep you  safe, I do hope your roof will survive,it is so worrying when we have such older properties.I am not surprised you are concerned.

Last week you kindly told us of the black moon, Thank you.,and there were

some stunning views together with the stars, and I believe one was Venus.a couple posted here,

  • DIANE - I am very perturbed to read your news Diane  Any bad weather we are expecting  will be nothing in comparison . We are a big island surrounded by sea which ameliorates our weather . I shall be praying for you . Love and hugs to you too Diane

  • Safe home, after a horrible drive there and back.  Lots of flooded roads, some quite deep, and pouring rain.  I was very glad to get home and don't need to go out again until Tuesday!

Diane - Hope you are OK and that the really bad weather misses you.  Others in UK, especially those further north, I really hope the snow and then the ice don't cause you any problems.  Keep safe, dry and warm.

  • DIANE   Wishing you well and hope things are not as bad as forecast.  PAT O   Glad you got home safe.

  • Pat,  I'm glad you're home safe. It's quite frightening on the roads in bad weather.

Diane, thank you for starting us off. We all have our fingers crossed for you with that awful forecast. Shocking. Maybe as someone said, it will be a wrong forecast. I do hope so.

AQ - I hope your headache went away. Shame when a pleasure turns to a pain!! Keep cool.... ..

We awoke to a white world here with an inch or two of snow. It also tried to rain this morning, but it's made no difference, and the snow is still with us. I went out very carefully with my stick to feed the birds, who all look rather fed up.
