HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!
The last full moon of 2024 will occur early Sunday morning (December 15) in the US and UK. The Geminid Meteor Shower will also be peaking, although the light of the full moon may impair the view of the meteors. This moon will be the Winter Solstice moon.
Last Tuesday (the 10th), my region had multiple meteorite falls as a result of the Geminid Shower. That's when the meteors don't fully burn up in the atmosphere and instead hit the ground.
Many people had security cam and doorbell cam footage of the bright light and the flash as a meteor hit. Others heard booms, and many heard an ongoing rumble like loud thunder (sometimes accompanied by a hissing sound). People also smelled a foul odor like burning metal and smoke.
The meteorite closest to me hit just after 4:00 a.m., so I was in bed. However, I heard the long, loud thunder and my floors shook. I also smelled that ghastly odor.
Many people here didn't know about the Geminids, so they immediately concluded that war had broken out--an indication of the fear and anxiety of our political climate right now.
Everyone have a good week. Love and hugs to all.
PAT - That's why I added the translation!
RUSTY You are obviously a very good friend to have, well done.
OG Sad you cannot travel any more but the A9 is scarcely accident free now and there was yet another yesterday when there was 1 fatality and and 1 seriously injured in Raigmore. The roads in Culloden were mayhem with people trying to get to the A9 by alternative routes as there initial plans were thwarted with roads closed.
I went as soon as it was light and retrieved my parcel. First time for me at one of those sets of lockers. I put the code in and, hey presto, a door opened and there was my parcel!!! 30 minutes there and back!!! My cousin told me it is cheese so I will have to open it. Thank you Diane for your solstice wishes. I am so pleased it will start to get lighter again here in the northern hemisphere. AQ - you might be happy that it will start to get cooler!!!
Rusty - Pretty tree! It has given me some incentive to put mine up, although I don't feel particularly festive at the moment. I'm sure you will enjoy all that cheese as well.
OG I do hope the team manage to sort your Granddaughters meds soon. My OH is pretty good at shopping and would certainly be able to identify a dip.
DIBNLIB - The A9 is a common topic of conversation, and has been for years while they keep messing about with short sections here and there. But our A75 is just as bad - two notorious sections - one down the Galloway end around Dunragit and Castle Kennedy, and the other this end from Gretna, round the Annan bye-pass and onto the straight bit just west of here - several crashes in the past week, including two fatalities - and several serious injuries. Then of course the lorry which drove off the road onto the railway line - luckily no train involved. The First Minister came to look at the road recently - but what can he do?
A quiet day today - maybe we shall get decorations down from the loft. All three of us going to the Carol Service at our church tomorrow. I am supposed to be reading, but have no voice most of the time, so OH will do it for me - and I might not even get to church if the rain and wind come as forecast.
OG Gusty winds and rain here today and probably tomorrow as well. I doubt we will be going to the carol service esp as we are still both coughing and spluttering.
Benson has discovered where his Christmas gifts are kept. He is not entirely happy with this," you have to wait till the 25th" thing.
