HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!
The last full moon of 2024 will occur early Sunday morning (December 15) in the US and UK. The Geminid Meteor Shower will also be peaking, although the light of the full moon may impair the view of the meteors. This moon will be the Winter Solstice moon.
Last Tuesday (the 10th), my region had multiple meteorite falls as a result of the Geminid Shower. That's when the meteors don't fully burn up in the atmosphere and instead hit the ground.
Many people had security cam and doorbell cam footage of the bright light and the flash as a meteor hit. Others heard booms, and many heard an ongoing rumble like loud thunder (sometimes accompanied by a hissing sound). People also smelled a foul odor like burning metal and smoke.
The meteorite closest to me hit just after 4:00 a.m., so I was in bed. However, I heard the long, loud thunder and my floors shook. I also smelled that ghastly odor.
Many people here didn't know about the Geminids, so they immediately concluded that war had broken out--an indication of the fear and anxiety of our political climate right now.
Everyone have a good week. Love and hugs to all.
I’m sitting here with all doors and windows open to sweep the hot air out of the house. A lovely 18 C this morn and expecting 26 max. Dilemma – which neglected chores?
AQ: Re chores, how about none? Or maybe the most urgent only when the temperature has dropped.
Heather: My Xmas decorations are still on the lower shelf in the garage.....
dibnlib: Oh geez. That's just AWFUL about your friend and her mom. Is step-dad staying at the hospital? That sounds like a long reccovery - and they're a long way from home. Any other siblings to help out?
OG: A 'procedure' for J sounds vague. Enjoy your visit with the hairdresser.
Diane: Wonderful. The two videos I thought had the 'best'' sound were those by Brittany Lewis and Mel Umberto. Were those the two you specified?
ANNETTE - I used the word "proceedure" for J's colonoscopy when I was being vague about it - but it did include a polypectomy and it is that of which he is expecting to hear some result - nothing yet. No new bulletin re Granddaughter.today so we assume there was nothing in the ultrasound - will possibly phone them tonight to ask how she is.
Not feeling too good today - wondering if I dare try to have a shower; will maybe just concentrate on a couple of Christmas emails this afternoon, although OH is pushing for a decision.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I am afraid I had another shock this morning. My dear friend who lives in Fochabers and who we meet up with about once a month let me know she has been diagnosed with breast cancer after having a routine mammogram. They have caught it early and she has to have an urgent MRI but at the moment it will be surgery in January followed by radiology. She is a retired GP so knows what's what. We have known each other since we grew up in a wee village in the central belt so over 60 years. Just a few months ago she helped her daughter who lives in Oxfordshire get through a preventative double mastectomy!! We all have so many friends and relatives to worry about as well as ourselves and it is good to share on this site.
ANNETTE That is the trouble with living on the islands, people often have to be flown down to the mainland for operations. I should think friends step dad will stay as long as he is needed, not sure if there is a brother in Shetland.
OG - Don't think I mentioned your granddaughter in my last post, but I was sorry to hear about her. What a shame. Sorry J is not well. Hope he gets his results soon.
Heather - Commiserations on losing your post, so annoying when that happens. Nice of your granddaughters to put up your decorations.
I've been frantically ordering things online as our Youngest only told me recently what the children need for their gifts. At least I can get most of it delivered and don't need to go searching the shops. One year their presents weren't delivered until after Christmss Day but we were saved by our not seeing them all until nearly January.
It's been a grey day here & I've been pottering, but must now get some phone calls out of the way.
